Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. Youre responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading itdetails of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While its understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and its related to a horse for sale, regardless of whos selling it, it doesnt belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be bumped excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary youd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a users membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Horseless rider in Western Suburbs of Minneapolis (Minnetrista)

I used to be a professional h/j rider and trainer. Late twenties I realized (late I know) that I was not going to the Olympics and decided I needed to "get serious" with my life. Now I'm a married tax geek with a 4 year old son. Yeah, I know, too much the other way. I agree. So if anyone had a riderless horse who can help this almost 40 something recoup some of my former life that would make me super happy. I haven't ridden at all now for almost 5 years, but I have kept in shape by running. Classically trained.

    • Needed: Free off-farm lease of big pony/small horse in DC suburbs

Hi all: Excellent care, beautiful facility, large turnout for safe riderless pony/small horse at boutique hunter barn outside Washington, DC. Old is fine. Lame or dangerous is not. Free lessor will pay all board, farrier and routine (shots, etc.) vet expenses. Please pm for website, references.

      • Medium Pony Looking for Young Rider in Schenectady, NY

We have a 13 hand, 9 year old pony mare who was purchased as a companion for my vision-impaired mare a year ago. She is a VERY nice mover (would clean up in the show ring), very quiet and willing. Needs a job due to boredom. Really enjoys children/teens. Free on-farm lease for some young rider who wants to ride but can't afford full ownership. Only financial requirement is at least one lesson per week with farm trainer.

        • Horseless Rider in Austin

Horseless rider in Central Texas, Austin area.

I'm an experienced rider without the funds to own a horse at this point (I'm 24 and starting out with a 'real world' job). I rode extensively as a junior in the 3'6" eq, and did IHSA during college - aka - I'm comfortable getting on a strange horse! I enjoy working with greenies too. If you know of ANY riding opportunities, please PM me. Thank you!

          • Riderless Horse Available North of Cooperstown

I PM'ed you beowulf. Not sure if you received it, but I do have a horse available and I'm about 25 min north of Cooperstown, NY. She's an 8 yo, 15hh (maybe slightly more) half-Arab mare (actually one-quarter Saddlebred) who is very, very green broke but exceedingly athletic with beautiful movement. I'd love to see her doing Dressage. Let me know if you have any interest.

            • Riderless Large Pony - Rougemont (N. Durham) NC

14.2h 7y/o Welsh/TB pony is looking for a person to spend time with him. Uncomplicated ride for an experienced rider who can fit him. He's very wide, so could probably go up to 140lbs.

Loves to jump and has dressage basics. Very nice mover. Feels like riding a horse. PM for more info.

                • Horseless Rider in Bothell, Washington

I am reposting mine, as it was back in July.

I am a horseless rider in Bothell, Washington.

I am 14 years old, and very petite. I can ride 11-17 hand equines, and have experience riding English and Western. I have a thing for ponies, and have stuck on the wild ones.

I can walk, trot, and canter confidently, have started jumping, and know some dressage. I have also worked with young and green or naughty horses. Please send me a message if you have a horse needing some attention! Thanks

                  • Riderless horse (most of the time) - Cochranville/West Grove, PA)

I have a 16'3 TB gelding, 15 yrs old who is often riderless. I am on the road for work approx. 200 days a year. Looking for someone who would like to ride as often as you'd like while I'm out of town and 2-3 days a week when I am home. My guy is a big mover but with a very good brain. He is not for the beginner as he is very forward. He is a very good jumper although a little out of shape due to my schedule. Farm he is at has a sand jump/flatwork arena, grass dressage area and small xcountry course. If I am home I would gladly trailer to shows or events. He has done dressage, eventing and some jumpers.

                    • Intermediate hunter/jumper rider looking for a horse to ride/hack in Greenville, S.C!

My daughter is in college in Greenville, SC and is looking for a horse/large pony to ride/hack several times a week. She has ridden most of her life, was a Varsity Open rider in IEA, and is a member of OHJA, showing Intermediate Children's (only due to her green horse she was bringing along). Petite rider (5' and around 100 lbs). Video of her riding is available!

Green is ok, but nothing dangerous PM me if you are looking for a rider for your horse!

                      • Intermediate Contesting + Pleasure Rider in NKY!

Hello! My name is Lauren and I recently moved to the area from Cincinnati. I've both English (jumping, equitation, flat) and Western (contesting and some pleasure) and I'm looking for a partner! Breed, age, whatever else don't matter! I've worked with young horses to old horses and I'd be willing to fine tune horses for competition or just to refresh their skills. I would prefer a western based horse (specialty doesn't matter), but I would also do english in the right situation

I'd love to talk more about myself and my experience, as well as work out what we'd both me interested in for this 'deal'! feel free to email me at: with any questions, comments, concerns! I would prefer to stay within 30 minutes of Independence, KY! Thank you!!!

                          • Experienced Horseless Rider in Chester County, PA

Responsible and dedicated 26yo female rider looking for an opportunity in Chester County, PA. Primarily a hunter rider but have dabbled in jumpers as well. Extensive experience with green and young horses, have been a rider for some local trainers as well as doing some catch riding. Experience in local and rated shows, including HITS and Devon. Recently sold my young prospect and do not plan on buying until at least next year, but would like to stay sharp until then.

I would be intersted to see if anyone has a horse that needs a little tune up who has done some bigger stuff but isn't currently due to lack of time, or someone who has a nice green prospect who has the finances but needs someone to help put some mileage on their horse. Or perhaps a trainer that could use a capable rider that needs a horse shown or trade lessons for some riding.

Open to a variety of situations. I would be happy to provide professional references, pictures, and video of myself riding. Please PM me here or email me at

UlysMom, I think I'll be okay. I know how to handle myself if someone I don't want to contact me contacts me. Thank you though

                              • I am right outside of worcester massachusettes and am looking for someone (within a half hour approximately of worcester) who is looking for someone to exercise thier horse from time to time, as I have been horseless for a while, and reallly miss it. I also have a 4 year old neice who is absolutely CRAZY about horses and would love to be able to even be walked around on a VERY safe horse. I have been out of horses and riding for some time (years) now, and so because of that would call myself an advanced beginner, although one of my first horses as a teen was a very green broke 3 yr old purebred Saddlebred who was full of spirit, but I must say, all in all, was under saddle very good and sensible at the same time. (he was a GREAT horse to say the least, was and will always be very special to me and I miss him very much!) I ussually rode him hunt seat and was VERY interested in natural horsemanship, and was very absorbed in Sally Swift's book "Centered Riding" (I would work on and practice many of the exercises in her book, and was also very interested and had a great love for dressage, although sadly I had to sell and find a new home for my horse when I was 25. I do love to groom as well, and have no problem mucking a stall and/or cleaning tack. If you are interested and would like to talk my cell is 774-287-1966 Thankyou and God bless you!

                                • Horseless rider - Baltimore area - intermediate rider

Responsible and conscientious adult rider seeks appropriate and inexpensive riding opportunities. Have mainly ridden in the ring lately, but would dearly love to get outside / on the trails more often with the right (quiet!) mount. Have had to relinquish my current half lease due to budget constraints / the cost of keeping my retiree cared for properly. Mainly ride a little dressage, have jumped in the past up to 2', trails, etc.

I will leave your tack clean, your aisle swept, horse care done as you request. Have half-leased on and off for years, so I know the drill and can give references.
I tolerate all kinds of animal idiosyncrasies.
                                  I've found that I don't tolerate people idiosyncrasies as well. - Casey09

                                  • Riderless horse(s) in Aubrey, Texas (near Dallas, Denton)

I shattered my tib and fib a few weeks ago and have a temporary rider in place but would love to find someone long-term who'd like to pick up a few rides! Please PM if you you're in the area.

                                    • Horseless experienced H/J rider - Denver metro area

Responsible adult with corporate job seeking H/J riding opportunities. N/NW of the Denver area (Boulder county and environs) preferred but can go a little farther on weekends.

As a junior and young adult, I was successful on the AA show level in hunters (up to 4') and did all the big eqs. I did a lot of catch riding as a working student during college. Took many years off for grad school and to begin my corp. career in a big city. I can't afford my own horse now but hope to have my own project one day. In the meantime, I'm looking for some saddle time.

I have experience with everything from the very green to eq horses with all the buttons. I have been working with one baby green OTTB recently during evenings and weekends, and while I adore this horse, I am looking for some more to do.

I have experience working as an A show groom and will take good care of your horse and your stuff! I also still have a lot of my own tack and am happy to work with some horses while everyone else in the barn is off at a show.

                                      Please PM me.

                                      • Next several shows in Culpeper/pppNova/Raleigh/barracks/SC/PA etc cc....

I would like DD to pick up at least one more show before WIHS. We can pay for her to show, we just need to go with the right group of folks so that it is fun and successful for her in the children's hunters/3' medals. I am sick on and off and so would love to go with a barn who has it together and doses well, especially as DD also has it together and can jump right into the swing of things.

After that show or possibly two, she may be reduced to holding/grooming/hot walking/etc. But I want her to be working for what she wants. Her duties for the WIHS should not impact much during her day.

Good kid working 3'3" at home. Showing jumpers at 2,11" at home and hunter classes around 2'9".
If you love me let me go....

                                        • Horseless in Redmond, Washington

Hello! I posted awhile back about being horseless in Ohio, but now I've relocated to Washington. I'm coming off a bad working student situation and after a few weeks of not being around horses, I really miss them. I'm probably more of an advanced beginner at this point, but I did exercise polo horses for a year before I began dressage and eventing.

So I'm looking for a horse or two to ride a few times a week while I'm between trainers and my life is in a state of flux just so I don't end up taking another long break from riding.

Please PM me if you think I can help you!
