Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

What height and size is your sweet QH mare?
      Tazz is 15hands.

Next question I have in my fun little game,
Can I have the initial of your middle name?
      "M"

Third- you event, as you're braver than me
Could you email some pictures, so that I might see?
I'll have to email you some, I have tons!

Fourth and important, or so your critters would say
what treats do they like, so buy them I may?
Oh my, Tazz loves EVERYTHING, seriously, she's not picky!

Lastly and fifthly- (isn't this cool?)
What are you allowed in your cubicle?
Just about anything at all, as longs as it's not inappropriate

An unhelpful clue as to my identity-
I've been to your city- on vacation, you see.
I was pretty excited- ready to burst,
because as to 7-11 experiences, it was my first.
Did you get a 7-11 Slurpee? Those are the best!

What are the names of your dear little ponies? Tell me about them! Which one do you compete with mostly?

What treats are most loved, by your horses and hounds? Are they pick eaters or will they munch on anything laying around?

What about you, what snacks do you love? Coffee, Chocolate, Candy Canes? What treats make you smile, even when it rains?

For now I must bid you adieu! I must be off, I've got shopping to do!

              • Oh, tx3dayeventer, your devious, mischievous elf is paging you again.

Do you wish for practical, tactical gifts?
Or maybe some things that will give you a lift?

Is there anything you need to begin
your journey back to eventing again?

At very least, I beg of you please
provide me with sizes, to ease
my search for the perfect ingredients
to create my masterpiece, with expedience.

Preferred colors and flavors would be helpful in addition
But not everything an elf wishes for always comes to fruition.

                To you, again I resign;
No gift shall be left behind.

The devious, mischievous elf signing off now, and thinking maybe a career in poetry would prove fruitful in the off-season.

                I eagerly await your instructions.

I have a couple more questions for thee
If you don't mind indulging me

Your elf here is from the south
Are there any southern treats that you'd like to put in your mouth?
She's from VA to be more specific,
and certain things like our peanuts are terrific.

                  And also please tell me,
your bevvie of choice, is which kind of tea?

                  In addition, please alert
me to sizes of things for yourself, such as a shirt
Or socks and gloves in case Santa brings you something fuzzy
To keep you warm out there in Missouri!

                    Oh wonderful elf of mine
                    your poetry is divine!!!

A second career you should research
because your poetry is not of this earth.

I love the colors of pink, green and blue
I tend to favor the brighter hue.

I ride across county in Royal Blue, Kelly Green with a hint of pink
I do look delightful or so I like to think.

Missy the Quarter Horse is a bright chestnut mare
who jumps everything in sight without so much as a care.

We tried our hand and hoof at the AQHA Jumpers, we had so much fun I fear
we will try to qualify for Worlds next year.

I also hope to event and meet back up with old friends
with that, my horrid poem must come to an end.

As far as sizing, Missy is a 75/76 blanket size normal sized head. I am a large shirt size. anything else you might need dear elf, dont hesitate to ask.

Missy loves treats as do I (not a good thing for making my old vest fit )

                      Hi LessonLearned,
I am your Elf and just wanted to pop in and say hi.

                      • Yeah! Hi, Elf!

Peanuts are great. I like just about all kinds of nuts. Some people say there's symbolism in that.

I like mint-flavored tea. Found some orange cinnamon once that was scrumptious. Fruity or minty is good. Also applies to hot chocolate.

In sizes, I'm a medium shirt size, women's size 9 feet, and have extra-large hands. Actually, I have a large left hand and an extra-large right one (chronic swelling due to old injury).

Also, I might be adding a dog to the menagerie list I sent! Not definite, but tempting. Large, shaggy dog. Might make a good footwarmer.

This is so much fun! Thanks in advance, Elf!

Congrats, dear giftee, on tying the knot!
That means as elf I'll be double wrought

Does Christmas come before or after the banns?

And is the new boarding barn your own?
Would you like something so that it feels more like home?

What colours are your fabulous steeds?
Is there something in your eventing colours of which you have need?

Are you a drinker of fruit or herbal teas?
Or do you prefer something more traditional, a la Tetley's?

Lastly, what do your horses like to eat?
Apple or cinnamon? Salty or sweet?

No hurry on the answers, I know you're busy
In the meantime, don't work yourself into a tizzy....

The holiday season is best enjoyed when relaxed
I promise to send some soothing balms and snacks.

                            Signed,
                            Your elf
I must say it was nice to stop in and see this post as I am home today becuase I am not feeling well.

So I am able to answer the questions asked. (not in the rymeing way that you wrote it tho, I am not that good.)

                            1. The wedding will take place in May, we don't have the date yet as we are waiting to find out if my DF will be reposted next year. We will know in Dec if he will stay here or be posted to a new base. I found it funny that you asked with the "banns" as we are having a Scottish wedding since we are both Scottish decents, him Fraser (his last name) and I Nicolson (of the MacNicol's)

                            2. No the barn is not mine, I am just boarding 2 of my 4 horses there, the other 2 are at my sisters. I am not in need of anything for the barn I am trying to get rid of stuff as I am down to the 4 horses and not the 15 I had 2yrs ago.

                            3. I have 2 bays and 2 grays. Urymate (bay) is the baby of the group at 3yrs and not yet under saddle his is a big boy at 17.2 and I want to wait till next Feb/March till I have him started. I have nothing for him other then a new leather halter that I had to buy as he has been wearing Sambro's since he out grow his this summer. If you want to get anything for him that would be fine he will be my jumper if that helps with ideas. I don't need anything for the other 3 I have more then enough for them as it is.

4.I love teas and any kind are welcome. I have to say that my small tea pot that I got two years ago from my SS broke in the move So I am now in need of a new one.

                            5. All the horses like treats of any kind. Not that they need any, the little pigs that they are.
My life motto now is "You can't fix stupid!"

Are you going to cowboy up, or lie there and bleed

Hunter Princess the "Big Guy" asked me to be your very special elf. I don't want to screw this up so I have a few questions.
What would you HATE to get for Christmas? Would you like stuff to keep you warm and cozy? Jewelry? Pratical or playful?
All the other Christmases I've been in charge of mucking out the reindeer stalls so I really want to make you happy.

                                I've stayed up late
                                to let you know
                                I've saved the date
for spending and shopping and swiping and bagging
for wrapping and bow-ing and finally gift tagging.

                                i'm simply perplexed
                                too many surprises
                                boxes and boxes
                                in all shapes and sizes.

                                I just cannot wait
                                I'm ready to start!

                                So give me a clue
                                or maybe two
                                And help me know
what would make the PERFECT present for you!
                                This is so exciting!!

I do love me some baby pads! I like tasty treats of all kinds (did someone say chocolate?). I could probably use a smallish black grooming tote bag (you know, to stick stuff in and carry around at shows). Waterproof winter riding/work gloves (size 7) would be useful.....
                                Y'all ain't right!

Why elf, so good to hear from you! I wouldn't HATE anything that was gotten for me really, although I really don't need any fleece blankets...I'm pretty much stocked on those for the next few years. You can never go wrong with chocolate for me, or anything homemade. I'm a practical sort of person, happiest when cooking or reading, and just being cozy at home.

They must be a quiet, sneaky, non teasing elf?
I will try to be patient. It is not one of my virtues, but I will practice and get much better at it.
