Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • The Official Willem Model thread: Let the ORDERING begin (pg 5)

For the sake of clarity, a new thread.

(Jumping about and dancing wildly) Ooooh, oooh, oooh!!!

Got an email from Doug today!! Prototype is READY!!!! He didn't have my street addy, and I *just* responded now at 6pm, so I'm guessing it won't leave IN until Monday.

Like friggin Christmas all over again.

This is where I formally ask for physical assistance from any NJ COTHer. As indicated above, I DON'T currently live in my own home. Add to that the amount of time I waste each day driving just to feed and clean my stalls. SO, (with a smile) Pat asks who:

A: has a garage, basement, or whatever, that can be utilized for recieveing, packing and shipping. (horses will come in thier own box which must then be boxed in a shipping box for saftey and labeling)

    AND

B: is able to help perform aforementioned tasks.

Any one outside of NJ is also welcome to volunteer, but obviously if you don't live near me than you'd be on your own to perform said tasks. I would make all needed arrangements of taking orders for the horse, ordering needed boxes, and other such admin stuff that arises that you may not want to take on. Think, reflect, let me know.

      Oh, and...

When the model arrives it will be photographed for posterity and photos posted to my Webshots. Anyone who's COTH account allows for picture posting would be able then to put them here. hint, hint

Once I have the thing, we, or really Coreene, will be able to indicate any changes that will need to be made and then it goes back to the factory.

        OH MEIN GOTT IN HIMMEL.

You know, when it first came up I got totally verklempt. And am verklempt again. I can't wait to see the prototype.

Remind me again what the minimum run is and I'll make sure that we get that many people to do it. I know that Willem's old trainer (and Oliver's current one), his vet and my little niece need their own. I can't remember though if the minimum is 100 or 500.

        Dude. Excellent. Oh my God.

I just wanna say something, if you'll please allow me a minute of Auld Lang Syne...

Whether people liked or hated the Willem character posting on COTH - and I know there were quite a few who hated it - for me it was a blast and the fun lives on. Canyonoak, now one of my dearest friends, I met because she was a Willem fan and wanted to send him cookies for his birthday one year (the year when he had Van Halen play at his birthday party, if I recall correctly). nhwr, who thank God lives in The OC, and I are dear friends because we met through Willem. Chester's Mom and I met through Willem. BBer feisomeday was walking through the stables in Huntington Beach one day and saw Willem and realized that not only was he a for real horse, he was the exact same in person as he was in writing. Etc., etc., etc., and I am sorry if I forgot to mention everyone but I'm a little verklempt. It's really overwhelming, ya know, a model of your horse. Your horse who was a $2500 rescue from a whacked person who said, and I shit you not, "If I can't find a non-jumping home I'm just going to put him down." At which point I pulled out the $$ and said "SOLD!!!"

To have a horse touch your own life is a blessing from above. To have a horse who, because of a crazy internet voice, got people to check their horses for Equine Cushings Syndrome, was an extra gift. To find out from BBer Merry that he was going to be on the cover of her book, which I found out just a few months after he died, was like something in a movie, something that only happens to other people.

                And now a model. Wow.

Those who knew Willem will know what I mean when I say that I am the one who is well and truly moved by it, but at Willem is, I am sure, looking down fondly and saying to his friends, "Ja, we haff waited ein while fur this, but of course mein selve haffs ein model. I be famouse. This it be right."

I have a lovely outbuilding office space we can use. Not heated, but surely sufficient if there are no other takers.

And, yes, he lives on... The other day while unpacking, I came across a list of Willem quotes I had copied and printed out. I sat there reading them and laughing and crying all at the same time. Thank you for sharing him Coreene.

Which model body did they end up using? Were they able to use the newer model that looked like him since it took so long for them to get it together?

If you think *you're* verklempt... I may need assistance just to put the sucker back in the box and send it back to Indiana.

Two years ago I grabbed an unpainted Stone walking TB on the cheap thinking that it would be a great horse to portrait Lucky on. He's still in "primer" and will likely stay that way for a while more. I just can bring myself to commission the protrait even tho I've had the opportunity and the means.

THe body choosen was the ISH, and I asked for short tail and long mane. According to Doug the Erbel Warmblood will not be available for an SR for quite some time. They seem to plan on using it for thier own editions first. I saw a resin copy at Doug's room in the HIN during BF. I was nearly consumed by the thought of scooping and running!

How much room is needed to ship these, and does the "volunteer" need to foot the costs of the packing material? I have a spare room and a garage, and if it's not *too* overwhelming I might be able to help. ??Depends, though.

Coolio. Oh, and sweetpea, you will be amused to learn that my 'kids' will be moving to the "Rev's" on the 15th. Yes, THAT "Rev". The little barn, not the big (grossly overpriced) one. And the (surely to be screwed up) plan for us is a house in P'burg.

Ahem--do they have any IDEA how much free PR they could have if they allow the Erbel WB to be used for Willem?
A horse already immortalized in various media?
A horse already the first COTH BB Horse of the Year?
A horse who has his own groupies?
A horse who has done more for the cause of Cushing's research than all the other horses Ive ever known put together?

As opposed to some schlock model horse they will eventually decide upon?

Just let me know if a letter needs to be drafted to the company.

Honestly, not sure about the space requirements. I guess it would largely depend on the number ordered.

NO, the shipping costs, including the boxes and postage, will be added to the purchase price of the model. I have a neato catalog full of shipping supplies. I planned on using regular ole newspaper to fill the dead space between inner and outer boxes.

Pretty sure that the edition minimum will be 100 pieces.

Wahooo!!! Congrats, Pat, on getting it all together despite all adversity!!!

                                    And, um, welcome to P-burg??

Alas, I am leaving for China in March, or would totally volunteer all space (and we DO have space - so if you are talking short term until you arrive in P'burg, consider me your next in line victim - heck I shipped out many, MANY Pony books - what's a few horse models?? ).

I DID say I would do a web-page for the model. Do you still require?? And now (if you check out my very own site www.sevenhundreddollarpony.com) I have the technology to do a page where people send in money for something. Even my husband was impressed.

So. Let me know what you need and I will help as I can. I have every expectation of being able to do internet stuff from China, but not storage, alas. I believe that in a country of 1+ billion people, storage is at a premium.
