Todays ride was a little different a I was riding Poco and my friend was on Red. We were just doing general riding, me zooming around on Poco, my friend plodding on Red. e rode in and out of the pasture mainly staying on my property just moving around.
Poco since she hasnt been riden for a bit was a pain in the rear, but a good pain, she would get excited and we would work it out, moving easily with little fus, but with alot of energy and go. Nothing too much, she did break into the canter once and didnt listen for a moment, but it didnt freak me out, which was suprising in general. We did loops and turns, bending, trotting over raised ground poles and regular poles.
We out into the yard and I moved her around there, circles mainly, trotting walking, a bit of cantering on my terms. we went out toward the begining of my property and she spooked at an ant hill and teleported 3 feet to the right. kept on moving left our property went to the hay field and stopped and turned around, my friend didnt feel comfortable leaving.
Red while this was going on just came along, went what ever at the ant hill and pretty much everything else that she passed by. Once back she kept a sedate walk moving. My friend was so surprised at her stop. She explained how she barely even thought about stopping barely exhaled and she stopped dead. Didnt move until she decided to move on. She was slightly frustrated when she couldn't get Red to trot more than 3-4 strides.
Once our ride was done I got off Poco and got on Red to show my friend that she can infact trot more than 3-4 strides.
So Im on and things are going well. I always wear a helmet riding red, so my friend gave me her's so I wouldnt have to walk a bit to grab mine. It was a titch loose but no biggie I was only trotting her around for my friend after all. I hopped up, grabbed my crop. With my crop I use it to reinforce things by flicking her with it, tapping if she was being bad. So when she ignored me and decided to push Poco over I tapped her, hey you bad listen up and pay attention. So we move off, I just got her calmed down because that tap worked her up and we were going under some trees. I automatically lean forwrad and duck down. Something Ive always done and was nothing new. The helmet slipped forward when I ducked, I shook my head and accidentally went *WHACK* with my dressage whip. Remember how I said I only flick her for more response and tap when she was being bad?
She. Freaked. Out.
She ran forward and I went to tell her to chill out and in starting to turn her slightly I flicked her, as at that point I was not holding the whip but it was hanging from my wrist and she lost it.
buck buck buck buck buck buck buck.
This is a horse who never bucked with a rider, but man she can get air time when playing in the pasture. Anyway they were not big bucks, however with the combination of helmet flopping on my head, already being in a disadvantage of being in the forward ducked position and a whip constantly flicking her, the battle was lost at the beginning. Eventually I did come off, Red bucked some more then started running off and I stared.
My reins were around her legs, wrapping around her legs. I did the only thing I could think of.
"RED! HO!"
And she stopped dead. Didn't move a muscle. Even as the reins finished swinging around her legs. All her muscles were tense and twitching as I got up and went to her. I went to get back on when the saddle slipped right down her side enciting yet another OMG, not like the original one, but man Im suprised the saddle didnt slid when she was bucking, I told her to stop again and my friend insisted on using my saddle since I was bent on riding her out and making sure she didnt connect dots with no work, she wanted me in a familiar saddle to work out with and argue if I needed to. I grabbed the whip and got *my* helmet. Some may wonder why on why after all that? Because I needed to. I rode her out, walked and trotted, did the same area where everything went haywire, minus the slippery helmet and the accidental whack.
She did great, I waved the whip around like a maniac, flicked her like I normally would for more response, and ended everything on a good note.
Over all it was an eventful ride when it was supposed to be calm and relaxing!
