Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

I just want to say thank you to you all...It means so much to us, there are just no words.

Last night, about an hour before we were to go pick him up, my cell phone rang and the words "restricted" displayed on the ID. The only time that happens is when Cornell calls. I was fearing the worst of course, and the worst it was.

He took a very sudden and serious turn for the worse. His little body just couldn't take the stress. We had planned to bring him home and give him fluid and electrolyte support until he passed but he just couldn't do it. He was failing fast and we were no going to make it in time, I couldn't make him wait for us to say goodbye...that is selfish. So he was euthanized surrounded by the always so compassionate and incredible staff at Cornell. I know they made his last minutes gentle and kind. He did not suffer, and he would most likely have just gone to sleep but again...

Kurt Fisk, our farrier, is covering the shop for Mike Wildenstein this week and we had him come and put his special shoe on to save him a trip out to the farm. I am so glad he had a brand new one to cross the bridge with...he will need it for all the running he will be doing with all his new friends in Heaven.

Godspeed little old man...you changed my life. You were my very first horse and worth every day of that 41 year wait. Every day of those 8-1/2 months you were here you loved us completely and we loved you so, so, very much.

I cannot thank Lori at Sunkissed enough for posting him on the giveaways. Through Dumplin' so many WONDERFUL things have happened. Special Horses, Inc. was formed, our EEA/T program is budding, tons of little kids with special needs and others have gotten their first experience with a horse thanks to Dumplin'. The other gifts are just too numerous to mention.

Dr. Hartman said to me on the phone as we were driving to Cornell. "Colleen it is going to be an easy trip for Dumplin' to get to Heaven, because he already had it here on earth with you". I am so grateful we did everything in our power to spoil and love him so completely. You really never know how long you will have them.

So today, if you would, think of Dumplin' by sharing a marshmallow or peep, or his new favorite...cheese doodles (the kind with honey BBQ ) with your horses and think of my little old fart And please, if you can spare it...send Lori at Sunkissed a dribble in Dumplin's name so that maybe another one of "unadoptables" that might find their way there can have the same chance Dumplin' did.

Thanks all...again, it has meant so much to us to have you here. I know your jingles, prayers and hugs surrounded Dumplin' to the very end of his life.

Colleen - SpotnNotFarm and I will be seeing Lori on the 29th (delivery of stuff for the store and auction). I'll be sure to have a little something for SKA in memory of Dumplin.

Thanks Choco...that means so much to us. (((hugs)))

There is some sort of Divine intervention that surrounds all this. Like Lori mentioned...there was something that compelled her to call me about Rye. I think back on her saying "you know, Dumplin' wont be around forever and someone needs to fill those shoes for the kids". Little did I know he would be needed to help fill the hole in my heart

Since Rye is so teeny, I am taking Dumplin's blankets and his halters with us when we meet Lori Saturday. They wont fit Rye (or the behemoths ) so if they can help another little horse, I know dumplin; would want them to have them. Besides...he hated wearing blankets

His leather halter (that he looked SO handsome in!), his special lead rope he received from Auntie Hoopoe, and a lock of his unruly Albert Einstein mane will remain here in my office hung lovingly on my rack, with the Peep name plate underneath.

God I am going to miss him

My heart is broken for you and everyone who loved that little guy. He came to life when he went to NY and you shared it all with us. Oh the little peep ho.

I am truly at a loss for words and when I think back to how this all transpired with Rye, I cant help but think there was a much larger intervention in this scheme of things. I know Rye has some big shoes to fill but, he is up for the job. He simply cant replace Dumplin but he is going to add to the love. He is going to snuffle the kids cause he likes to snuffle and he is going to steal the hearts, thereby mending them.

As with all the old folks, we get them for such a short time, but what a time it is. You gave Dumplin life, and Rye wants his TV.

I love that you put his special shoe on him. I happen to know of a few good horses in those greener pastures who will give him a run for his money. they are whole again.

One day, his memories will bring a smile to your face instead of a tear to your eye. He has enriched the lives of everyone who knew him and we become better for it. In fact, for such a little fart, he sure did make big things happen. Dumplin was for a reason, Rye is for a reason and all things are for a reason.

I have so many people asking me for minis all the time and Rye is an exemplary example of a mini friend, yet, something had me calling you as we cruised on down the highway. Divine intervention. Yup, God knew what we didnt.

I love you and appreciate all you did for the little guy. And you know he loved you too.
Extra big hugs for Ally as I am sure she is gonna need it. And on Saturday, she will start to fill up again, thats a promise. Rye is ready to love her.
Our horses are not seen as the old and disabled they may have become, but rather as the mighty steeds they once believed themselves to be.

It is sort of funny - I was just leaving last night and the very last thing I had done was to send off an e mail which said, "Have you considered that Dumplin's job on Earth was to get you to Special Horses and Borrowed Freedom?" - when you called.

So I tried to contact as many as I could so you wouldn't have to. And I gave Ted extra hugs. But I think he knew, because when I got to the barn, he was already dancing at the pasture gate, regardless of bugs and drizzle.

Big hugs and muzzle kisses. You know we love you.

                                  Colleen,

I haven't read all of the posts from this morning, because I started to cry and I have to head into a meeting, so I'm probably going to repeat what others have said. But I wanted you to know how very, very sorry I am....when I saw the post with your update this morning, my guy reaction was "No no no no".

I know how much you loved Dumplin'. We all did too, because you shared him with us. You gave him the most wonderful life a pony could ever have - how incredibly awesome that his last months on earth were with you and your family. (And before that, he was with Lori and HER family - it just doesn't get any better.)

I know that your heart is broken right now, but please know that we're all here for you and that we're grieving with you. I'm glad that you'll have Rye coming to spoil, although I know he won't take Dumplin's place. There's nothing to say that will make this any easier...I just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. (((hugs))) to you and your family.

Colleen -- I'm so so very sorry to hear the news. I know that Dumplin will have VERY high expectations of heaven since not too much could be better than his life with you. How very wise of him to call Rye in to be ready to work with the kids that he knew would still very much need a mini buddy. My heart goes out to you and your family, as well as Dumplin's "extended family", which seems to reach around the globe.
