Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

I thought that was great . Did you notice how nervous she looked when she was petting the horse's cheek? And, it is amazing how many people have ridden once or twice before and have had the horse buck on them. The horse probably swished at a fly or something.

    • I was laughing the WHOLE time! Those girls didn't know what they were doing at the barn. But I was a bit disapointed about the stable and the horses. They were dirty and the barn didn't look that great.

Now, if you were posing as a millionaire wouldn't you have steeds that looked like they were carved from marble? Wouldn't the stable be as gorgeous as the house? Oh well....

Well, *I* would, *you* would, and everyone else on this BB would, but that's because we know horses. I guarantee none of those women know horses at all (maybe with the exception of the girl who's cousin posts here!) and were just scared of the old schoolie horses anyway.

        • I just LOVED the look on Heidi's face when she didn't get picked. She probably had to watch the show and TAPE it so she could keep watching to look for the mistake that was obviously made. <gasp> How could he NOT pick her? <ROTFL> Or, as she might say in French (translated) "Me wrong select Evan orange underpants".

Bless whoever picked out the horses, they were saints! They could use a steady diet of Sunflowers and Flax Seed and a little more time next to a brush (and a saddle that didn't need patching), but, they were Wonder Patient horses. Imagine the conversation the horses must have had afterwards!

And I feel I must quote my favorite - so far- televisionwithoutpity quote "Being the older and wiser (hee) longtime married female that I am, he is very hot--just duct tape that mouth and get him naked." (gracehatter)

I do believe that might be the best use of duct tape I've heard in months.

          • I missed the stall mucking! but caught the last half hour. thanks that they are showing it again on thursday - will watch the whole episode.

that Heidi needed TO GO! what a <insert appropriate derogatory word that isn't allowed on the BB>! I LOVED that they translated her er, uh, and I use the term losely...French.

I liked most of the girls he picked, but liked Zora and the girl with curly hair the best. They seemed most genuine of everybody.

            • Those horses looked old and skinny to me - no wonder they were diving for grass.

I actually thought Evan looked pretty comfortable with the horses although he states he never rode before the show. He seems to have natural affinity for horses - maybe it's the similar brain size???

I'm actually impressed that he seems to be trying to evaluate character and not pick Barbies, and I was astounded he gave Dana the boot! You would think that by now, the girls would realize that something is up - Evan is not spending much time with them, and the things they are doing (shoveling coal, cleaning barns, picking lots of grapes in the rain) are not exactly romantic. Duh!
              Man plans. God laughs.

              • Did anyone else catch that when they first arrived at the barn, you could see in the background other riders cantering the horses that the girls would be riding? Looks like they were getting them worn out for them! Seriously, the horses looked ancient, although very sweet. How else could they tolerate those HEELS? Wow. I was most satisfied that Heidi got the boot, and I would guess largely due to her "horsey drama." Too funny.

                • OH, but you gotta give ol' Evan some credit. At least he felt sorry for the horse who was being ridden by the girl in heels. He seems like he really likes horses.

Oh I am so glad Heidi is out...and out goes her really bad French. She was trying sooo hard. Crying on horseback...riiiiiight. She knew she was out of her element and didn't want to look like an idiot....Too late!

I really like Zora. She seemed the most comfortable on the horses and made the best of a "crappy" situation.

I did notice the riders in the back, cantering the horses. At least they made the chicks wear helmets.

                        • *cringe* Okay, I'll admit to watching most of it last night. That was ridiculous. And here the guy is looking for a woman who will enjoy all the things he does, and yet he's not the least bit honest with them. I hope there's one girl there who is a complete player and is only pretending to like everything he does in real life so he ends up just as screwed in the end as she does. Now that would be a form of justice.

Oh, and dogchushu, that's NOT banking a straw stall! That's just shaking out the straw. To bank a straw stall you need to really build up the sides and use the fork to form a "bumper" around the edge.

Hey, I still think he's ugly and coarse. I think any of these fluff-for-brains that fall for him deserve him. I also think that the producers should have spared the horses the terrible riding and the audience Heidi's childish attitude and poor French (I personally think she should have ended up with the "liar").

Don't think I'll ever be able to stomach another episode of this tripe.

                          • My favorite part of this whole show is Paul, the butler. I loved how he said that he couldn't find Heidi's bags fast enough!

Anyone notice how Heidi said she just really didn't like horses, and then was incessantly scratching the bay's face later? Whatever. And then how she was carrying on to Paul about her bags; what a snidely whiplash.

I like Zora and Melissa the best. And Zora was into the horses, so this is good.

                            • Did anyone else fear for the girl's life when she dropped her reins? Not only was she in stilettos, but now she is in a possible predicament that could cause a serious problem! Old school horses or not, most horses when they step on the reins at least lurch backwards.

Does anyone pity the girls who were on the train ride and Mo Jo took over the conversation? I for one do not. Since Joe DUH'S converstion skills are less than impressive, it's up to the girls to simply talk amongst themselves. When Mo Jo said "graduated with three majors, blah blah blah" thats when one of the other girls could have easily said something to the extent of "three majors, I barely survived one, etc."

I guess they weren't sorority girls. Go through rush once or twice and you can talk to anybody about anything.

Personally I always choose to ride in 6 inch stiletto heels, doesn't everyone? Saves me from putting on spurs if you angle your foot just right!

I let my daughter watch the horse part, and she's not a horse kid...she says "Mom, did that lady just drop her reins? Isn't she the one who said she could ride?"...LOLOL

I like the curly haired gal...and was really pleased to laugh my butt off when Heidi mumbled the snarky "Whatever".....Buwhahahaha.

The tack on those poor horses was just trashed, as they horses were. Do you think that castle is some sort of vacation place where non horse people can ride? The horses were certainly dead enough. Personally, concrete block stalls were not what I was expecting for a castle....

                                • The stable, vineyards and train weren't necessarily on the property. What makes everyone think they were? The riding stable appeared to be a public facility (where tack would not be great, but the horses would be safe and cared for). The train was definitely NOT on his property. And the vineyard could have been, but I doubt it.
