Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

I switched to Ortho tricyclen from a mono phasic pill. The mono-phasic made me PMS 24/7 365. I am much happier on the tri-phasic and less witchy

And if you want to know this is horse related, just look at my subtitle. Two chesnut mares are bad enough, add permanent PMS and there is a disaster waiting to happen

me on ortho tri-cyclen = broken out crying bitch

me on desogen = good skin and getting laid regularly. (therefore, not being a bitch, its acycle thing, not sure which causes which but I'm not questioning....)

And yes, we've both been tested. we went together, one of those bonding things.

I was on Depo years ago and loved it. I went back to the pill (Alesse) and hated it. Then I got pregnant and had Alex. One kid is all I want and I tell Mr cfc that he is lucky to have gotten one out of me. I NEVER wanted a kid, but having one now is pretty cool. My husband wants to buy him a pony and a Golden Retriever as soon as he is old enough (probably five years). The life I would have killed for- not literally - as a kid: horses in the backyard, roaming the countryside on a pony with a dog tagging along. I just hope he likes horses! Mr cfc introduced him to Picasso, but Alex was decidedly unimpressed (of course, he was only eight weeks at the time ).

I went back on Depo right after Alex was born and, ack!, no white breeches for me. It has been 10+ weeks of unfun. I hope this stops soon...

Gosh, I'm gone from the board for 12 hours and come back to 3 more pages on this thread! Had to go do my barn and ride, ya know!

I started on the depo because of breakthrough bleeding after having been on the pill. I went for 10 years w/no visiting friend (heaven!) and then have had a rather miserable last 18 months. Many consults with the Dr. and experimentation with a couple of different pills and I finally said, I've HAD it! No more! And that's when he suggested the depo.

Gambit, before I took the plunge, uh, needle, I went to www.depo.com, and there's a good explanation of why your periods stop. So far, so good!

And speaking of the needle, as Chrissy mentioned, it's a big'un! Depo is viscous, like penicillin, so it goes in slowly. My arm was sore for about a day, but certainly not debilitating.

Hopefully my breeches are once again safe.

Depo shot. It hurts but you forget about it for the next three months.

They don't do mine in my arm...so my butt is sore for a few days. And they always get distracted by my tattoo of horses galloping around my waist.

ooh, get the depo shot in your hip. Not only does it hurt less but it decreases the chance of breakthrough bleeding. It's a bigger muscle than your arm so is dissapates slower and more evenly. Hence less side effects.

I never minded getting the shot and even learned to give it (but not to myself because I can't exactly see the back of my hip). I think it hurts less than most shots, but you're right that it's a big needle-- I just don't think the skin on your hip is as sensitive as on your arm.

To keep it horse related, learning to give Depo came in handy because now I give my horse Adequan myself

Me on Ortho-tri = constantly nauseous, crying, headache-y person with break-through bleeding on average 7 weeks out of 8. My face was breaking out like there's no tomorrow and I was downright suicidal.

Ok lets see.... 31 years old. Single, no man. No man in a WHILE. Show me the foolish??? I wish I could say I lived the scenario I described. That's what a lot of my friends do. Not me. I am pathetic... the only kind of bunny action in my bed is when my dog smacks me with her legs while she dreams of chasing them!!!!

I have to be on the patch/pill etc for irregular periods and a family history of endometriosis.

Now.... about Tri Phasil pills. Ortho Novum 7 7 7... got pregnant on it!! Mono phasil was sooo much better. L'Ovral rocks!!! But the patch is better.

OK this is probabaly way way too much information.

And yes I think about this stuff when riding my horse. (See how I made it "horse" related. LOL)

Unfortunately, my doctor told me they're no longer being marketed in the US (???). I guess it cost Wyeth more in litigation costs than it made in profit

So, my current set of Norplants expiring this month... (this thread is sooooo timely) I had my tubes tied yesterday. I'm a little tender, but I am bowing down to Artenallie for being able to ride the next day. My doc gave me no grief. I guess he figured that if I was 40 and didn't want kids, I'd had plenty of time to make up my mind.

Why is it that everybody assumes something is wrong with you if you're childless by choice?
Why do I like most horses better than most people?

I have been on yasmin for about 2 years now and I *loff* it. My first BC pill was Ortho Tri Cyclen and I hated that. The next was Lo-Estrin but it totally zapped my sex drive. I switched to yasmin after that and couldn't be happier.

I used to get really bad mood swings before the monthly visitor, but not now. Hardly ANY bloating, no boob soreness, cramps, or anything. I wouldn't even know I'm getting my period if I didn't have the pill, no pms at all. It's GREAT. And no weight gain.

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for five years or so (wow - didn't realize it had been that long) - started when I went to college due to severe cramping, excessive and frequent bleeding. (Trust me - it STUNK!) I couldn't even convince my insurance company to pay for the pills becuase they kept me out of the infirmary and in class all month! It had no real effect on my skin (always had a couple of mini's on the face), but I did gain about 12-15 pounds. Did really help with my problems and pain.

Last year, I heard about Yasmin from gyno who was asking why I had gotten on pill in the first place (was single at the time ). I was okay with that as well - actually made me a little crampier towards the end of week 3, but I did lose like 2 pounds of water weight. I personally liked it because the dosage isn't as high, and I'm conscious of the osteo-issues from women in my family.

Now, I am off the pill for some testing. It's been interesting that I started current relationship on the pill, and had to get off (so the horses intruded further in the relationship than I had EVER imagined ). I found out they're not as bad as I thought they were (was never really a fan - prob. because I always associated with disease prevention, and now associate with just waiting to have kids with the person I love). We've even had fun playing "Consumer Reports" with the different brands. (blushing smiley!)

I do have to say that the cramping has had a big effect on my riding. It's not back to as bad as it was in college, but WOW those suckers are powerful. And the upset stomach, headache, breakouts, attitude issues, sex drive peaks and valleys - all part of the package I guess.

I would recommend the pill as a good way to prevent PG or other issues, and it's easy to get off of if you do decide to try. If you are active with more than one person - DEFINITELY USE YOUR HORSES!!!!!
