Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

      • For those of you in New York there is a little blurb about Athina in the Parade section of this Sunday's Newsday.
It was all of 5 or 6 lines but it mentioned that Neto's exwife, Sibele, told reporters that he left her for Athina because "she can buy him horses and I can't".
Sounds like someone's a little bitter.

                • Being rich is relevant. No matter who you compare yourself to you'll always be "poor" compared to someone and "rich" compared to someone.

What I hate about this country is the fact that we measure ourselves by material belongings. It just doesn't make sense to me, and it's probably something I'll never understand.

As I said before, I never repeat myself.

I'm from Argentina, I lived in Luis Guillon for a couple of years (trained at Club Hipico Monte Grande), then moved to Tandil, the most boring place in the universe. I rode with Ferretti for a couple of years, and for a few weeks with Moratorio. He was awesome!

Choripanes!!! Wow, that brings back one of my favorite memories, many many years ago going with my dad to watch an Argentino Jrs-Independiente match, my dad played for Argentino Jrs, so he's a fan of them, and I'm a fan of Independiente. I remember eating choripanes with my dad that day....wow.
How are the tracks these days? Is San Isidro as beautiful as it was 15-20 years ago? I'm sure Palermo and La Plata have gone downhill. The last time I went to see races in Argentina was the day Ojeda had that horrible fall and died as a result. I cried for months, he was our jockey, a total nutcase that wasn't afraid of anything. The first time he got on my dad's horse, the horse reared, bucked, and spun. His usual behavior with any new rider . He laughed all the way through it, exercised him, bought him back and just as my dad was about to apologize Ojeda said "Es mansito. Lindo caracter. " (He's quiet, nice personality, for all you non-spanish speaking BBers).

Does the CAE still look nice? I showed there a couple of times with my nutty little mare, 1/2 criollo, 1/2 TB. I also showed at Club Hipico Argentino, but liked CAE better, many more hot guys there

                    • Just a little bit of info, Athina boarded her five horses at the barn I grew up at in my "hometown" of Apples in Switzerland. When I went back two years ago we ran into her, aside from looking like a very young girl with too bodyguards my trainer told me she was very nice, she had very nice horses and he said she was a very good rider...so she may not yet be Olympic level yet, but I am pretty sure from what he said that she is very capable and focused, with the quality of horses to back her up, she is definatly in an environment that knows what they are doing and that can and will send her to the top.So maybe she was jumping a 3' fence in the article you saw, but considering that show in Switzerland don't even have a division that low, it is safe to assume she jumps a lot higher!!

The CAE is ok, but has been going downhill 'cause of the economic crisis. If your dad's in racehorses, he should be flying in and buying them here now (everybody around the racing world is doing that...).They are dirt cheap...even the good ones.

I know the economy sucks now, my best friend just moved to Spain. He gave up on trying to make it in musicals a couple of years ago (that was a real shame, he won a couple of awards) and the best job he could get was at a hotel, making less then 1000 a month, but still good for Argentina. My dad's not training horses anymore, I know he'd like to, but keeping horses in the U.S. is insanely expensive compared to other countries. I was looking at some really nice horses, with excellent bloodlines (potrillazo or Farnesio) going for less then 15k!

I figured CAE had gone downhill. I heard that there are Equitation classes and Pony jumpers now! That has to be pretty new, when I was riding I could do jumpers, or jumpers, or if I wanted something different, jumpers .

I'm not riding now, but I have been very tempted to buy horses there to resell here, but the horse sales are slow here so I'll have to wait for that.

You know one of the things I miss a lot is La sortija. That has always been my favorite game, I think we should make a trend of it in the United States. Sure makes good riders!

I'm married too, but I still love looking at the Argentinian men. I loved going downtown in the afternoon and watching all those hot guys leave work, in their suits and ties. What a lovely view!

What area of Argentina do you live in?

                              • Hey Karina,
You're right...nothing beats a good suit on a good body (you can tell my husband has no access what so ever to this BB... .
I live in Maschwitz (Route 9, Km 44), but my stables are at Del Viso (near Pilar, route 8, km 44), both 44 km from downtown Buenos Aires.
As for equitation classes....well....the judges here tend to be a little tendentious, specially if one of their students are showing...(and that's why dressage is so troublesome here , too). Actually there's a Breeder's Cup which goes throughout the year, which judge the horses form (not much the rider's) and we've already have had problems with it...
Ponies have started, though, which is great and the cutest thing around!!! I started riding 30 years ago (when I was 4), and I could walk under my first horse's belly without slouching!!! He was a huge 17H+ but a doll. It made it difficult to learn (and scary for some kids as I recall..), but the pony categories are doing fine.
I see you're into interior decorating...so am I!! I export furniture to the US!! We can chat about that privately; my mail's on my profile, if you like

                                  • In the hunter and equitation classes here we have the same thing, about judge's playing favorites. I must say though I don't think it happens as often as people here claim it does, and I think it tends to be worse in small and local shows then in the big ones. Then again, I haven't shown much, and I've never done any of the really big shows here.

Yeah the horses I rode in Argentina were always too big for me. I'm so glad about the ponies!! The only time I rode a pony was when I was in the US for a couple of months as a kid, and I despised that little sucker, but he did teach me a lot.

I noticed the dressage and eventing in Argentina is hideous. It makes no sense to me, because I know we have excellent riders and amazing horses, and I know there are good trainers there. It went downhill right after Moratorio won an olympic medal, but it seems as though we are getting better.

I'll e-mail you. In Spanish though, hehe. You can tell I'm missing my homeland when I'm debating switching over to dressage so in about 10 years I can do a freestyle to La Cumparsita

Talking 'bout tango, you have no idea the huge amount of turists that are visiting here!!!I don't know if it's the sights, the people or that it's so darn cheap now.. Can you imagine having a great lunch, with wine included, at Puerto Madero, which is THE restaurant place now, for less than u$s10?!?! Even 5 star hotels go for 50 bucks a night w/breakfast!!!Turits can't believe how cosmopolitan and cultural Bs As is. I remember on my last plane trip flying back to Arg from Atlanta (in Nov.), the plane was packed!!! Even the flight attendant was flying in with her mom so they could have a weekend shopping frenzy, blabbing on and on over all the leather stuff she was gonna buy (we almost ran out of cows after her visit...he he)

                                        • Hey Lizviola,
Glad I could be of use...he he.
If you have any trouble with that, just let me know (I've done my boots there forever and I know the manager, just tell him Viviana recomended him...so he's not as stiff and formal as he usually is..).
There's lots of other cool places to buy extra cheap (such as bridles, saddles, even horses), since the dollar rate here has skyrocketed last year (we're over 3 to 1), so if you need anything else, just let me know and I'll let you in on the REALLY good stuff... he he.
