Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • You guys, this whole thread has got me all teary at my desk AGAIN! I thought I got it all out in the ring!!!! I can't believe how proud I was of by friend, Lisa, and of Aiden on Saturday. They have both been through so much, and were so happy to enjoy that experience. I'm fighting completely breaking down at my desk right now, so I'm not going to get too emotional in this post, but I want you all to know I was seriously moved leading that pony and his *mount*. (Picture the smiling and crying smilie here...) I could not have been more priviledged than to be able to be the leader of Gift of Life for Aiden.

Luckyduck, Vicki was so sweet letting us use Buddy for this class. She was SO patient (that class took forever to go!), I know she must have been anxious! I was really glad to hear how well they did in their division and the medal - her professionalism is already beginning to bloom!

And a big THANK YOU to all the COTHers that were at the ring!!! I really enjoyed the show with Madison and GoodBooie. I got to meet RumorsFollows and her cutie paint. It made the class all that more special that we were all there together and Aiden had his COTH Aunties right there to experience it with him!!! I have to say even *I* liked having the support of them there to keep me from turning into a COMPLETE puddle of tears after the class!

We really do have a great thing here, and I have made some great friends. And please know that ALL of you were there in spirit, cause right before I turned to Lisa to tell her I was crying, I was thinking about all the dozens of people who have participated in these threads, and the auctions, and the prayer chains, and just all the positive thinking and karma that has been sent Aiden's way from so many people... it was obviously very moving for me. (Thankfully Lisa didn't post the pics of me bawling trying to keep leading the pony!!!)

I just wanted you all to know that I appreciated your support of Aiden and his family, and that you were all there if just in thought. Thank you, again, for your support of my friends.

omg. Thank you so much for sharing; I think we're all crying with happiness for you & your precious family. God bless you.

{aside: ok, so after I got all teary I laughed out loud at the 'for once
      everything was pREfect.'}

The irony of life never being perfect, even when it is, because it isn't ever, but it's still so very very very wonderful and touching and moving - all that summed up in the prefect/perfect sentence.

Aiden was a champion at the show and he has been a champion through all his health problems. He'll fight his way through the latest problems, too.

          • Thank you sooooooooo much for sharing all the pics from the horse show. Aiden has become such a role model for me (and I'm sure many others)...his fighting and desire to live has always made me realize how wonderful life is. I am sooooooooo proud of him!! I SAVED ALL THE PICTURES ON MY COMPUTER!!

Glad to hear his numbers are going down...but, am keeping him in my prayers that things will get better!!

Those pictures have had me sobbing up a storm, and now I must head off to class!! But, thanks sooooooooo much for sharing, and brightening my day!!

RolexH, no matter what, Aiden will never be a normal kid...he'll always have a part of him that is 100x stronger then his peers. Whether or not he remembers this part of his childhood, not only will he always have a strong personality, but, anyone that has touched so many people's lives and brought so many people such joy, and made so many people realize how lucky they are to wake up each morning can never be normal--instead, he will always be extraordinary!!

The look on his face is too funny. He looks like he wants to tell everyone to get away from him, he can do this by himself! And Lisa you look so fabulous - I love the hat you are wearing - you look really good in that hat - glamorous mommy!

                    • Look up "darling" in the dictionary, and there should be these photos of Aiden and "his" pony. I thought of him as I watched the lead line class at Pin Oak before the GP on Saturday.

Lisa and Joey, thank you for the lovely acknowledgement of the donation to Aiden's fund. It was an unnecessary thing to do when you have so much else to take think about and deal with, but one more sign of what kind and caring people you are. I hope things went well today and that Aiden is feeling much better soon.

                              • WOW - I didn't know that Aiden;s "Gift Of Life" was BUBBA!!!! (aka Buddy) That is truely more fitting then y'all even know....

Luckyduck got Bubba from my trainer, and when she had Bubba - and when I was living with my parents - he lived at their house with my old TB, Ben. He was just a youngster then, and VERY mischevious. If he wasn't fed RIGHT at 5:00 pm, he would go in my parents garage, pick up the doormat in his teeth and promptly fling it, and BANG on the kitchen door untill he got his dinner. He knew how to open the shed door, and I don't even know how many times I came home to find that pony with his head in his trashcan of feed. I have NO idea how he never foundered. I think because I would somehow get to him when he had just broke in. I loved riding Bubba, he is like the little pony that could - I jumped everything on him! When my nephew was 3 he rode Bubba in his first leadline class :-) Ok, on to th estory I was getting at...
First of all, yes my parents turn th ehorses out in their 6 acre yard. Its fenced in, but they have a pool - with no fence around it, UGH. It never had caused a problem, untill Bubba.
It was when we had first moved in, the pool was BLACK, it was late Nov and freezing, and I had on sweats and a T shirt. My brother in law yells - theres a horse in the pool! I look out to see Bubba, in the deep end, with the only thing keeping hm up being a cord from the pool cover that he was tangled up in. I jumped right in, without thinking, and tried my best to keep his head above water. My BIL ran and got a leadrope - he couldnt find a halter - and he cutr the pool cover while I pulled Bubba to the shallow end - how I did this, I have NO idea. Bubba was so exsausted by now, that he could hardly stand, and I had to help support him, while we both caught our breath. My BIL was going "man, I hope ther arent any alligaters in ther" The water was SO black and yucky - and FREEZING!! e were wondering how we were going to get him out, but then I remembered, this is Bubba - the half human pony, so I just led him up the pool steps, LOL. I turned him out - this time in the back, where he promptly rolled, and trotted off to his round bale. I sure did do a LOT of praying THAT day! Both he ad Aiden are TRUE fighters!! When I first got to Bubba he was so weak, the only thing above water was his nostrils.

Sorry if I bored y'all with my Bubba/Buddy story - and LLuckyduck, I hope you don't mind me sharing it :-)

                                • Oh No Freebird..."Buddy" surely entertains us with his antics as well!

When Billy told us that he had the PERFECT pony for my daughter...he knew exactly what he was saying.

Seeing as we never sell those "family friends"...he knew we needed a pony that had an ABOVE average personality....and wow...that certainly is an understatement.

We have had a lot of firsts on him...and having Aiden ride him in HIS first leadline class...well...that was just another photo for "Buddy's" book of firsts...He took an amazing little hero on his first blue ribbon ride!
