Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Thumbs Down for Stateline Tack

I'm NOT happy with SLT right now... I placed an order last Mon. for 2 blanket bars to match the others in my barn. I go online this morning to check the shipping status and it says "order cancelled"... I'm like wtf? I called them and they said "oh, that item was discontinued, we cancelled it because we didn't have any". Um, well thanks for like, letting me know . I hadn't ordered from them in a really long time and now it will be a really, REALLY long time before I do again. Ugh.

On a side note, does anyone know where to find the single blanket bars that go on stall doors in a steel "crackle" looking finish? I bought the two I have at Petsmart during the SLT/PS clearance thing but need two more matching ones to put on the other doors. I can't find the durn things anywhere else.

kpf... if you are really anal about matching stuff and can't find them anywhere.. you can probably find spray paint that has the crackle appearance at your local lowes or homedepot if you can find the same style of bar just not the color
If i'm posting on Coth, it's either raining so I can't ride or it's night time and I can't sleep.

That's what I was thinking. If they were clearanced at the SLT/PS sale and SLT no longer carries them - you'll be hard-pressed finding them elsewhere. Though depending on the number you currently have up, I'd just replace them with standard finish ones that you can always get somewhere.

Yep, good idea about the spray paint. I can't even find plain blanket bars locally, though, so I'm still on the hunt for cheap ones to order. Stupid me for not buying all four at the PS sale, but I only had 2 horses at the time and didn't need them.

I was just PO'd SLT didn't contact me about the items being out of stock, I really need those things to use right now... extreme cold temps this week so lots of blankies out...ugh!

I just got a shipping notice with 4 items "cancelled" as well. It said they were in stock when I ordered them last week! No backorder or anything, just cancelled. Great. I asked them whats up and they said they "ran out."

Country Supply sells cheap black blanket bars.

And if you buy from Country Supply you can check to see if your favorite rescue has a care account set up! Woo hoo! More $$$ for them with every purchase! It adds up really fast.

I have not had good luck with State Line in a long time and so don't buy from them any more.

Um, Country Supply (Horse.com) IS State Line Tack now. They bought them out over a year ago. I wouldn't put my chips in on the bars being in stock with CS if they aren't in stock with SLT. I've had my own issues with horse.com, yet keep going back as my last option when I can't find certain things. Guess I like playing with fire.

I know it sucks when an order gets cancelled without notification but be careful avoiding companies because of that - you'll find yourself out of options soon enough as how SLT handled your cancellation is how more and more companies are doing business. -it's not right but that's how it is.

                      http://equestrian.doversaddlery.com/...&ids=672214826

Dover has quite the list of blanket bars--one as cheap as $6 so you could replace all your blanket bars to get a full matching set and it won't cost too much

Okay... just had something similar happen with Country Supply... horse.com... same owners as State Line Tack...

I always order enough to get the free shipping. I had noticed by checking my checking account that my my dollar total wasn't right for the order. I was trying to figure out what was going on and just figured I'd wait to get my order. It didn't match up with a combination of any of the orders that I made. I got my order yesterday... just opened it today (it had a Christmas gift and I didn't want somebody to see it).

Low and behold they cancelled (temporarily unavailable/canceled) the WORMER!!! 12 tubes of generic Ivermectin at $2.59... that brought my order down below their magical shipping amount of $49.00, so they charged me $8.95 for shipping... WHAT THE FRUITBAT???

I'll definately be trying to get the shipping refunded... and I'd like my wormer too... I really doubt that they are out of wormer... come on, Country Supply... if for whatever reason a MAJOR wormer supplier is OUT of wormer... whatever happened to backordering???? Almost makes me think that it is a convenient way to get out of free shipping...

When I placed my order there was one item that I wanted that was out of stock... it said so right there on the website, "Sorry, Out of Stock" so why didn't the wormer say the same thing... perhaps in the nanosecond that it took me to hit "order" the hore wormer buying fairy swooped in and ordered those last twelve... what the fruitbat????

The e-mail fairy neglected to inform me as the e-mail that I received from Country Supply stated...

                        "Greetings from Countrysupply.com.
Your order has been sent to the warehouse today, 12/15/2008 12:01:31 PM to be shipped.
These are the items that we are now packing to be shipped:

                        Product Number Description Qty Price
                        BSE12 Mesh Feed Bag 3 $07.89
                        BBL08 Generic Ivermectin Dewormer 12 $02.59

Your items are being shipped via Standard Mail. You can expect to receive your order of in-stock items in 7-10 business days (excluding Saturday or Sunday).
Thanks for shopping at Countrysupply.com, and we hope to see you again soon.

                        http://www.countrysupply.com"

(I left the Christmas Gift off-- I had 3 items total)

I never received any e-mail stating that they were out of "GENERIC IVERMECTIN dewormer" and I most definately didn't cancel the order... So much for their "Best In Stock Rate in the Industry"... apparently it isn't the most accurately recorded in stock rate either...

I have not had any problems with them in the past... and I most definately will be inquiring with the company, but I find it ironic that other people are having items just cancelled as well... at the least poor customer service... at the most- SHADY... I'm just curious, did this result in you being charged shipping?

I just looked and I received a confirmation e-mail stating that all items were in stock and on their website it states all items in stock & shipped.

I'll let you know how it turns out... their customer service is not open on the weekends... so I sent an e-mail...

I also had Country Supply cancel the free shipping because they didn't have all the items I ordered, and they wouldn't credit me the shipping, despite the fact that they didn't give me the option of changing or canceling the order. I no longer order from them.

Whenever I find something I need in a SLT catalog, I then check Dover and a couple other catalogs and ALWAYS it is cheaper to buy elsewhere once shipping is figured in. I haven't bought from SLT in YEARS.

Had the same thing happen! At the beginning of the season, they had a great sheet on sale for a fantastic price. The button said "in stock"; waited 3 weeks, called them, order cancelled. Re-ordered the blanket in a different size; still said "in stock". Charged the credit card. Waited ... waited. Order cancelled, the charge on the card just went away. Really pissed me off.

I gave up on SLT last year when it took TWO MONTHS for my order to arrive! To add insult to injury, one item that was "backordered" was cancelled with no warning, and in addition, they sent me the wrong saddle pad! It was the right color, but I had ordered a AP and they sent a DRESSAGE!

                                      Never again.

I no longer order from SLT because Country Supply is in MO - SLT is not - but tehy still charge me tax. Which ends up being about the same as shipping. No, thank you - unless it's something very special/one of a kind.
