Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!

Her family sent $600 today western union. I am thrilled to get anything at this point. I have picked it up so it is confirmed money. I told this girl that I did not care if she spent my money or what happened to it and if she would sent me payments back I would not put her in jail. I don't understand why she pushed it this long until things got really bad and the police had to go get her. She did promise half last week and a note was on the wire that another $500 would be sent next wednesday, we shall see... !! smiles for alittle money!

She says that she did send it from the USPS and has claimed this from day one. The police pulled the video tapes from the post office and guess what she was not anywhere to be found on the tapes. She even went as far to tell the police the exact writing on the box, size and what the person looked liked that waited on her??? The police told me that she did not ever even have the saddle. My hopes and excitement of a new Hermes is way over with now. I hope that I get my money back and never here the name Hermes dressage saddle or This ladies EVER again. What a NIGHTMARE!! You can not imagine how excited I was over $600 today when it's just a small part of $3100 and at least another $1200 in expensenses over this mess! I have learned a valueable lesson and I know that there are lots of wonderful honest ebay people but I will NEVER EVER NEVER AGAIN shop there.

I have been watching this thread too. Even if she comes through with the $$$.....press charges!!!! Not because you want to put her away, but for when she does this to the next person, she will have a record, and the authorities will really ba able to do something then.

People like that beatch should never be allowed back on ebay.

I have met some wonderful people on ebay (one person shipped me a horse - to Ontario from Nova Scotia - before I had even sent her a dime because a trailer just happened to be leaving that weekend). You better believe that as soon as the horse arrived, I high-tailed it to the bank! When someone is that honest and trusting, I sure wouldn't want to let them down.

If the police went to all this trouble, are they planning to charge her with mail fraud? (I'm not sure what the laws are with regard to that so I'm just making a guess here.)

SO that's it? She pays back the one person who tracked her down, gets off that hook and goes onto steal from other victims?
Why won't the police pursue this?

This person has got to be a pathological liar, or at least something similar. I've been in e-mail contact with espree about this person, as I also had to file a fraud complaint with e-bay about her. Fortunately, my dispute with her was regarding just a $50 bit.

I kept my e-mails...after nagging her for weeks over the bit which "was in the mail and must have been lost by the postal service", she agreed to send me a 2nd "replacement" bit. This was in an e-mail dated October 14th...replacement bit had been sent.

Bit finally did arrive, in a package dated October 28th! Why does this person think she can get away with such blatent lying??

I had to mark my e-bay fraud complaint about her as "resolved", as I did, eventually get my item. But under the comments in the resolved section, I noted the shipping dates.

Go after her, espree, even if you are getting some money back! This person needs some serious help, and if she keeps getting off the hook, she'll keep up the lying and stealing.

How the heck can she keep ripping peoplee off? I had a heck of a time trying to set an ebay account. They had to know everything but my hair color and this girl can keep stealing time and time again!

You should have the police or someone contact her and her parents every day until you get the remainder of your money. Keep the pressure on!!!!!

You can run with the big dogs or sit on the porch and bark.

AS a seller on Ebay I am disgusted and embarassed by this blatant con artist. WE are not ALL like this but will all get tarred slightly by the same sooty brush. If anyone has been put off buying from Ebay by this thief-you HAVE options if you wish to buy a high ticket item. Payments may be deposited into an Escrow account that will not be released to the seller until YOU are satisfied with your purchase. Escrow protects both buyer and seller but both parties must agree to and are legally bound by this system. DISHONEST sellers will not agree to Escrow simply because they can not steal from you. I live in Maine- and hope she doesn't cross our state line. We dont take kindly to that sort of (*lobster bait*) up heah....but would be mighty pleased to host a blanket party for you when you catch her.

Hi LISA COOK!! It's GREAT to see ya here!

Do not stress everyone, this girl has more than me after her and warrants pending. I am thrilled to some money returned but she has a LONG way to go yet. Her family was notified on Friday and that is why I got the money that I got. They have promised another $500 next wednesday. Boy I hope all of you are the jury members!!

I agree with both people that made comments about ebay and being tough to get a membership! How about paypal? My husband and I both had accounts for months with mult. CC and bank accounts and they would ONLY allow us to take $500 a month to transfer out because my married name was changed on everything except my SS card. I faxed them phone bills, CC statements, letter of ref. from work and tons more crap and it still took 3 months to release my money this really pxsses me off that this con could get my $3100 and remove it that day and they can not help me in any way. Ebay again suck!! I have filed all complaints on time with every department fraud, safe harbor ect. and did there follow-up 30-60-90 days and I have heard NOTHING from them except pay your bill. I have let them know about the mult. ID's and police reports and still nothing back from ebay. The only thing that they did is band her account so she can not sell anything else. big deal I promise this worm will be back on ebay before you know it...

                              Espree,
I am glad you are getting some restitution, however, the parents bailing her out does bother me. If she is old enough to be moving around and defrauding people, then she is old enough to take responsiblity for her own actions. If this was me, MY butt would be in jail (in part in fear of what dad might do to me, and partly because dad WOULDN'T have bailed me out). Heck, if I were in a similar situation, the police would be bad enough, but calling my dad, well, that would be terrifying..........

Just some thoughts anyway, but glad to see you are getting something at least.

Let me know when we can start lighting torches, mine is ready to go.

Hi Lisa! Welcome to the I hate Katie club!!!! She pulled the same lie about shipping dates on me two years ago. The best part was when I questioned her about it, in all her lies, she tripped herself up and admitted she hadn't mailed out my boots when she said she had.

Thankfully, I did finally get me boots. Still, what a hassle!!

I love Ebay and feel bad that people have to abuse it. Any ideas on how they can prevent people who have been banned from coming back and creating new seller ID'S? It is so easy for someone to just use a different address and credit card number then they used the first time. What kind of identifying info can they use to tell if someone that was banned is trying to sign in again? Originally Social Security Number popped into my head, but not everyone has one (especially foreign sellers) and with all the concerns of identity theft I know personally I would hesitate to give out my SS#.

                                Any ideas folks??

                                  Hi Espree!

I just joined the thread and I am so sorry to hear about all the trouble you have been having over this girl and ebay.

I have to agree with the other posts that you should definately and I mean DEFINATELY prosecute this woman. She is 22 and having her parents bail her out of this!!! That is just disgusting!!!! What is wrong with parents today, if I had done that at 22 I would have been much more afraid of my parents than the police!!!

I hope everything works out and you are able to at least get your money back.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

The IRS would probably be very interested in this person too. Sounds like she could have a lot of unreported income. They don't like that kind of thing.

Hi My name is Kathy and Espree is my best horsey friend. She told us how wonderful everyone on this BB has been to her over this saddle. She has not told you that she now has a lawyer bill over $2000 plus the costs of the saddle she never got. She also saved a horse from the slaughter this summer that foundered. She has no money to purchase another saddle. Our barn along with a local tack shop gave us 35 sweatshirts to sell on her behalf to raise money to buy her a saddle. If your interested in purchasing a sweatshirt for $5 please email me. She will not accept anything from us to help so we thought that this is the least we could do for her. She is a wonderful person with the heart of gold and feels bad about putting this crook in jail. (We think that she did the right thing)
