Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • What is this place in Scottsdale?

This is going to be a hunt & search project. Or a local may have the answer off the top their head.

I am looking at horse properties in Scottsdale. Thinking of moving. Realtor sent me a link to 15517 E Lomas Verde LN Scottsdale, AZ. Do not know why, as it is not set up for horses & I want move in ready. Very odd some of the places they have sent as "horse property," but that would be a whole different Thread.

When I Google mapped it, above & slightly to the left, I could see a bunch of trees. Out of curiousity I zoomed up "there." As that many trees in this region seems to be an oddity. What is the place, on East Redbird Road??? Looks like a zoo? Animal sanctuary? A private home with way too may exotic pets?

I tried searching a combination of words, & East Redbird Road, but could not find anything. Any locals know?

Does one have to listen to restless lion & tigers & bears (oh my!) at night?

Would you want to live with horses so close to this place? I know I would not. But my curiousity now up as to what it is.

Is it the one with the swimming pool with a ramp? Looks like a future equine facility with large paddocks and a water therapy pool for the horses to exercise in. The poles sticking up out of the ground looks like the future barn?

FYI, feel the pain on asking real estate agents for horse properties. To them anything with a little bit of land qualifies, barns can also = garden sheds. Luckily one that I've worked with would ask me if she is picking out the right kind of properties since she isn't a horse person.

Lol my realtor would send me "horse properties" in areas where horses aren't even allowed. Another realtor showed us a 10 acre property knowing horses weren't allowed. Before we found out, my DH made an offer to surprise me for my early birthday present. I happened to call the township about fencing and building permits and the clerk immediately recognized the property. She asked about my agent by name then said I don't know why she keeps showing that property to people with horses, she knows that horses aren't allowed there. I told her that 2 months ago. It's not like we changed our laws.
I called my DH and the manager/owner of the agency the realtor worked for, reported her and her "market sucks. This is the only property like this around." ways. Now she is no longer listed as an agent with that company

I grilled 3 agents on if they were horsey or not, to find someone that actually comprehends what I require. This one swears they have kids that show. What Breyer's? Not only is this house not set up for horses, it does not have a swimming pool. "Move in ready. Equine facilities. Swimming pool." What part did they fail to understand? What the fruitbat, I have horses, do I seriously have to say, "Oh, & btw, no tigers & lions & bears nearby either!"

Ok, so if Google maps shows this house being at the "red A in the circle," go west (left) of the house to East Redbird Road. Follow it up to where it takes a hard right (east), still East Redbird Road, toward N 156th St. Only do not actually turn right. Look toward the left & just above East Redbird, but well below East Pinnacle Vista Drive. There is a big group of trees with buildings scattered in them. If you zoom in on these trees you will see more than 20 parked cars & trucks. Lots of what I am guessing to be black net covered cages in around the trees. There are "paddocks" with small buildings, & lots of fairly large big human being type buildings. This is the place I am talking about. No swimming pool, so I guess they do not have Shamu or a polar bear.

All I can keep thinking about is that guy in Indiana or Ohio (or wherever it was) a few years back that had all those exotic animals including big cats, turned some loose, then committed suicide, & many of the animals had to be shot...

          Is this it?

Considering there are lots of horse properties in the area I wouldn't be concerned. Might be interesting to hear lions and tigers etc off in the distance. Besides your horses will certainly be used to wild life! It looks like a really nice horsey area with lots of high end facilities, sure would be on my list, I wouldn't be put off by the zoo, it looks professionally run.

That is very interesting! I love to look at google maps and that is a very unusual place- it sure looks like many large cages with sun shades. Whatever it is- it looks like a pretty upstanding facility- not junky and blue tarps.

These folks are close by neighbors- they have a FB too- maybe you can ask them.

What a beautiful place, love their pictures of the farm. Scottsdale may move up to the top of my places to retire provided I win the lottery!

That area is full of gorgeous horse facilities. I do not know of any public wildlife sanctuaries up there but there are top notch horse barns there. My husband is a firefighter in that area - I'll ask him if he knows what that facility is. I would die to be able to buy a horse property there. I think that properties that are zoned for horses are listed as "horse properties" even if they're not set up at the moment.

The Out of Afrika Wildlife park in Camp Verde is 94 miles away.

Sorry, but I do not want to listen to caged wild animals at night.

Good find! Thanks for the hints on Stonewall farm & also Bionatures. I think I will give them a call later today.

Shows how talented (or lack there of) I am at map reading! Let us know what you find out, its interesting. I think I might like it at least until the novelty wore off, I'm pretty sure my horses would not like it.

I live about 8 miles from a big cat sanctuary. My farrier does some horses that live right next to it. He said the 1st time he heard them it freaked him out, but not the horses. The horse owner says she rarely hears them.

I am more than happy to send a $dribble$ to this place. Just don't want to live by them.

Can't recall the name of the road but look up Rancho Oso Rio( Pat Warren), or Randy Paul training.. that road has an assortment of horse ranches and there is a community near it that is 5 acre or more parcels..

Oh, thanks Lostboy, that is worth looking into. 1.1 acres just does not cut it for me.

Amazing what the Shea & Cactus Roads areas have turned into. Plus folks have built their swimming pools out into the horse trails blocking them off!
