Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

So all those "Barns in Texas" threads inspired me to call forth all ye Texans...along with the fact that I have seen some names that I haven't seen before (but of course, that's partially my fault since I was missing in action for a while).

So what's up with everyone? I'll start! Yay!

I'm in Austin, sold my horse in October, took a break, and now I'm back with Janet Christie doing jumpers. I'm looking into leasing a Children's Jumper and will probably go to some shows this year.

    Y tu?

I'm in the DFW Metroplex and I attempt to do dressage...got my first horse a year ago (late bloomer). I hope we show this summer!

        Howdy Spaz...
I'm in Burleson! I just had a great, exceptional ride on my mare...good piroettes and changes. My ride yesterday sucked, so it just goes to show that Scarlett O'Hara was right when she said,"tomorrow's another day!"

I have a new acquaintance down your way named Daniel Bedoya. We were introduced by someone in Denmark because we each have some Danish horses. He jumps, so you might know him.

I'm probalby one of the Texas nobody's you haven't heard of before. I've only been on this board since February when the weather was bad and I kind of got hooked. It's nice to meet you. Nice introductory thread.

I ride dressage and breed warmbloods...some jumping lines as well as dressage.

We have a web site (that I desparately need to update!)

I live in East Texas and ride at an Eventing barn. I started riding at 29, so I'm really a late bloomer. Don't have my own horse, I just ride/show my trainer's horses.

I've met Flshgordon before and I've seen MsRidiculous and Charlie ride. I've probably seen some other Texas Eventers as well.

I'm in Houston and ride with Katie Lambert-Boone. I lease a horse from one of my best friends and we're doing Spring Gathering (right after Pin Oak, my friend is doing the first week of PO).

I'm on the hunt for a new horse and think I may have found her, but I'm going to keep quite about it so as to not jinx myself.

I'm looking forward to meeting others from this BB at Pin Oak, as I think we're having a COTH Get-together.

Hey ya'll, I'm Belen, 15, and from San Antonio! I have two horses, and show AQHA, and I hope to do some children's hunters as well.

I'm really upset about Pin Oak, I was gonna go, but it was a week AFTER my spring break, and I just can't get out of school! My horsie may go up to do the Pre or Baby (not sure which) Greens, so I may have to have one of ya'll who will be there update me

Actually, I do know Daniel Bedoya. I moved to his barn...sort of. I was at Cornerstone which is AT Manor Equestrian (his barn). He practically sold Pi for me! Very nice man indeed...

I'm in Houston. I'm a bit bogged down with work, 18 hours of classes, the lostpony.com website, and two horses, one of which I'm trying to find the right person to lease.

Didn't the sun come out recently?

How fun-a bunch of TXans in one thread!

I live in Dallas, used to ride Hunters but switched to eventing last year when my TB died and a friend loaned me her Ap/TB. I have since bought him, had a baby (a human one), and am slowly trying to get back into riding.

DRAY-I know you!!!!! Remember Rumor-and his mom Jennifer that drove up from Tarleton to clean stalls once in a while for you? That's me!

                        It's been a while-how is little Carson?

I'm attaching a picture of my little dumpling, Samantha-who is now almost 6 months old.

TXan TB - you mentioned Tarleton. I used to live in Hico! How neat! I still have lots of family there, and was back for a visit in August of last year. I hope I can take my baby down there to meet them soon. She was along for the ride last time, but didn't have much of a view.

She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.

dray, I used to board at Daniel's and took a few lessons with him. Very nice guy.

As for me... barn construction is coming along. We're moving the horses at the end of the month, so Rising Star Farm is now *official*. Lexi is still about to pop, but alas- no baby yet. The other mare will be bred in her next heat to a Trakehner.

The riding horses are doing great. Jez is scheduled to run a Novice event at the end of the month, and barring any unforseen disasters, will move up to Training at the end of May.

Charlie is enjoying his retirement (he's getting FAT! I never thought I'd see the day), and he'll be a great uncle for the babies. See the link in my sig for more info and pics of all of them.

I'm a Texan, I just haven't lived there in awhile. I used to ride at Unicorn Equestrian Center, first in Pflugerville and then when they moved to Manor. Do any of you know if they're still there? I recognise all the names you guys mention, but I never hear anyone mention Dana Tetens and Mark Doig at Unicorn, and the last email I sent them went unanswered. Dana events and Mark does h/j.

I've been living overseas and haven't been home in two years so I'm a little out of touch. But I'll be there in May and June, dividing my time between Houston, Fredericksburg and Austin seeing friends and family before moving to Scotland. Can't wait!

If any one hasn't figured it out by now, I'm an Austinite who does Hunters...but I've done some dabbling in Jumpers. I ride at Scattered Oaks with Stacie Bertolacci (yeah that hasn't changed in the past 12 years). I have a baby green OTTB who is about the goofiest animal on the planet. And a spastic yearling who thinks...wait who am I kidding, DOES rule the world.

Although I took the last year off of showing, I plan to get back to doing the locals with Orion this year. Watch out for our big 2'6 debut on April 5th.
