Just wanted to share this with everyone. I wonder if I could become the next guru?
I have had new neighbours move in across the road. Area is sparsely populated and this house has been vacant for 6+ years. Dad and daughter (15 years) have a horse they share. Horse has been well trained in the past, but they have no experience and he is pushing the limits. Daughter has had some behaviour problems and dad thinks that the riding will be good for her. They have been over to ask advice and have lessons and are really paying attention.
A few days ago dad asked about picking up feet and looking after feet. They brought the horse over the next day and I showed daughter how to pick feet. As I said, horse has been well trained and I ran my hand down his leg and gently squeezed his chesnut. Horse picked his foot up and held it up. Daughter, mum and dad all just looked at each other with jaws dropped and eyes wide. They had done all sorts of things and hadn't been able to get horse to lift his feet at all - and then I came along and "pressed a button" and he picked his foot up and held it
. I showed them how to hold the hoof so horse wouldn't pull it away and how to pick it out. They all practised and were pleased with what they had achieved.
Then dad mentioned they were having difficulty getting horse into and through water. We have a couple of rivers around here and end up doing a bit of water crossing. So dad got on horse, I got on one of mine and we rode down to the creek. I gave a lead, told dad what to do and horse walked in and had a ball, splashing and playing.
Mum and dad walked home and daughter came on a ride with me. During the ride she told me that horse had been "bucking" and "going really mental" when they had tried to get him in the river and that what I had done must be magic!!!! She also ooohed and ahhed at the ride that I took her on and said it was wonderful too.
So now, she and dad both think I am magic. They will do anything I tell them to!! I suggested soon after they got the horse that they should get some de-wormer. Both of them can see the difference in horse's coat, condition and the way he acts.
One day, I guess, one of them will discover I'm not majik. In the meantime, daughter can learn to handle a horse, ride and some aspects of running a farm from someone she believes can influence a horse to do anything I want
.
