Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

    • Hmmm, Ted, I think Cloudy sent you the peppermint stars treats cause they were peppermint, if I remember. No beer flavors, darn it.

Let me see if there is a wedding ecard since the wedding plans of Paris and BlueJake seem to be heating up.

Well, I don't get much beer as Mom doesn't drink it. My buddy Bow gets sweet iced tea from the bottle or from Quick Trip from his grandma after his lesson, that is good stuff too. Peppermint stars work for me!

Especially because mom justifies it by saying it helps me accept the bit and salivate (even thought I keep stopping to rub the stuff off my muzzle, I hate salvia in my mouth like that) so I get a peep before and after we put the bridle on, and then I chew and chew and chew so my mom can't buckle the chin strap heh heh heh.

It is very very windy here and they are predicting ice and stuff so mom warned me she might not see me tomorrow. It is 60 degrees today and will be 20 tomorrow so she keeps fussing about any of the horses colicing. She better give me extra peeps just in case.

Two more of our boxes to some rescues get delivered Tuesday...we can't wait. And there should be a little something for another. That's what's cool about organizing. Sometimes you can just be an extra Santa, like the Jakes and ssssnakes group. I guess that means I am not a good team player, but oh well!

        • Ted, tell DGRH to make you "tea" by warming water and then putting a handful of grain in it, in the 2 gallon little buckets, with a few timothy and alfalfa hay cubes.

And I guess with you, that would mean to add a few peeps, altho I would think they would float on top of the mix like marshmellows on hot chocolate.

Then when the grain dissolves, and the cubes dissentigrate, and the water is tepid, voila! you drink it, and then you get 2 gallons of water in your that way.

Cloudy can do 3 rounds of 'tea" which is 6 gallons of water, no peeps though, before he gets full.

This really works to help prevent colic.

added: and is recommended by my vets.

Tell your barn pals too. Especially your paddock pal. BTW how come you don't have a girlfriend like Cloudy does? Nothing like a mare to order you around.

          • Regarding CANTER NE: all is well, received this from Ellen O'Brien:

"It wasn't delivered to the wrong address--just not marked for 'CANTER New England". The address was 39 Bancroft Ave., Reading, MA 01867--which is correct. Sorry for any confusion!"

Whew. So apparently CANTER NE did not get someone's pink blingy half chaps!

            • Ted gets a wee bran mash almost every night, heavily watered. In addition, when I bring him in from outside (where they have automatic waterers, heated as necessary) I have water in the stall when I give him hay. I think having him out 24/7, plus all that roughage (bless our barn: so many barns in our area are hay-free - what a recipe for disaster!). But I know he would like your tea in addition to everything else he gets!!

It's this nutso weather change that has me worried: seems like once a week it goes from 55 to 20 in the space of 12 hours. Quin told me that in Kansas (south of Kansas City), it started out 60 and dropped to 20 in just a few hours.

They are predicted ice/snow/sleet/freezing rain/probably frozen locusts too tonight, into tomorrow - hope everyone is sitting tight and staying warm and dry.

Ted doesn't have a girlfriend because although he is quite the handsome boy, he is a real weenie. The only mares who really like him are our two babies, now about 1 1/2 years old.

Team blackstallion totally crashed this afternoon flat out on their sides sunbaths My 4 1/2 TBs have really worn themselves out in this weather! • Well Cloudy has been his usual self this year so if Santa is keeping tabs

Coastal GA is having 70 degree weather, then rain, then 20s at night and 50s in day and lots of strong cold winds, and then the cycle starts again.

And the drought is over, yippee.

But no ice storms yippee. But we want snow, like the one white Christmas we had years ago.

Merry Christmas to our rescues and fellow cothers from the Southland.

There is a second box for the ponies too, 'K?

Mmmm!! A wedding cake made of chikens?! Yummmm! Chiken cake with gravy frosting? And a pitcher of you on top! YAY!

I don't have my very own email but mommy's is kite813 at aol dot com. I would loff to see pics of you my fancy! My Mommy doesn't have baby pitchers of me cuz she got me when I was almost a big dog. My first family didn't want me to mess up their Christmas so they sent me to the pound 2 weeks before Santa came. Luckily Mommy was working the day I went in for my tutoring and she knew I was a smart dog even tho I was...umm... *unruly*. She kept checking on me and when I caught a cough-kennel she knew she better take me home. I was kinda bad for while but she loved me anyway, now I am a good boy...most of the time.

I know just how you feel about strangers in the yard! we have roaming cats! I loff my kitties in the house but not the ones inthe yard! They poo in the garden! ICK! I loff my house ssssnakessss too but not yard sssnakes. The pet snakes are cuuuute! They loooovvvee pinkies! Bring some to the wedding 'K?

Where are we gonna get married? Its 731 miles from my place to your place, I checked!

Mommy and her Elf friend Vince did all our Jakes and Ssssnakes SS boxes today...she said not to call Vice an elf tho cuz he isn't too tall and we don't wanna hurt his feelings. His ears aren't pointy so I don't think he'd care about being an elf. He had fun helping pack boxes. Now Mom just has to weight them and make labels and take em to the mail sleigh.

We can hardly wait to hear how all the rescues like their boxes!! we have LOTS of boxes, enough for lots of rescues!! Some will be a surprise!

Oh well, I gotta go to bed now...its reallllly late. I LOOOOOOOVVVVVVE YOU Paris!! Hugs and wet kisses and wiggley butt wags all for you my fancy-girl!

Say What? Hay Free??? Really- like no hay at all? Martin thinks that's not possible. He prefers his hay at least knee deep.

                            • Yes...hay-free.

Ted prefers his hay to be alfalfa, but we can all dream, can't we?

I can't wait to find out what the rescues are getting.

                              • hahah its getting closer and closer to xmas and finally, I have the bug thanks to Paris and Blues love affair. Shopped for the foster kids yesterday, the ladies at the store loaded the back of the KIA without the kids having a clue.

Paris got another full load of gifts from her mommy cause nothing lasts more than a few minutes. Oh well, she is entertained LOL.

CTR should get a huge box today I would think. Huge and i am so excited. Paris is going to get a wedding dress. hahahh I love to dress that doggy up.

Ok full blown excitement is on. I want to know what everyone gets.

So far, I had two people, (no names mentioned yet) each paid $100 dollars on my vet bill. They couldnt have done anything better, too many vet bills last month and I was scared scared scared. I have never until now owed a vet bill and so, that was a godsend. I was actually losing sleep over that.

We got not only a dressage saddle, but, soaking boots from Cloudy and Callie. Another godsend. Dear Heart can finally address her abcesses without trying to stand in a bucket of water. she can even lie down now and her boots are filled with epsom paste. Makes for a happy happy Hinny. As well, we got tons of stuff for our store. WE are finally full of tack again. Hooray.

It turns out Horseloverz cannot ship to a P.O. box so they will ship to me and I will ship to my rescue. This means they'll probably get the box later than sooner but they will get it.

                                  • Teddy walked out of his stall nearly sound for the first time since he arrived! I am so happy to think that he is finally on the mend! His abcess on the shoulder is getting smaller and is still draining. The hole in the coronary is big..yuck! But he is finally feeling better!
He must be feeling good...yesterday he and Bates (Bates denies it but I know neither of the girls would stoop to such a low) must have been playing over the fence and broke 2 boards..that makes 5 boards that have been broken in the past week..the rest by Tucker..that does not include the Thanksgiving Day fiasco! • Oh Ted you darling boy!! Miss Ellie here from the LUCI Center!! We just received your box!!! Fly sheets and peppermint treats!!! I am a delicate Saddlebred and those horrid flies just torment me the entire summer!!! When I was a star of the shows they made me stay in a stall all the time. After my show career was over I had babies every year. Now I get to play and run and flirt with the boys (over the fence of course). But those flies sure cramp my style. Now I will have a glorious time!!!

We mares all just love peppermints! We like them after meals to cleanse our breath. The silly boys will just eat them all the time.

My Mom says your Mom says you are having terrible weather. Did you send it here to Kentucky? It is cold and we are to have freezing rain and snow tonight. I have a nice winter coat and shelter so I will be fine. But please don't send it here anymore.

Hello and thank you so much my darling boy.

                                        Your friend,
Miss Ellie and all the boys and girls at the LUCI Center.

                                        • YAY!! ALL Jakes and Ssssnakes (Florida Division) SS PACKAGES ARE EN ROUTE!

This morning was an assembly line of weighing, label printing, label taping on, and then OFF to the Post Office! It was SOOOO wonderful to walk right past the 20 people standing in line with their multiple boxes and things that still needed boxes, right to the front to leave my pre-paid and ready to go packages on the end of the counter! In and out in 5 minutes!

So Paris, your fancy Blueee sent his box to you! He can hardly wait til you get it and open all your new stuff! Hopefully it will keep you busy for a few minutes. We are very glad to help Paris' Mom get in the spirit, I have to say, I've very much enjoyed BlueJake and Paris' engagement too! That, and this thread, have really been fun for me! (Paris--should Jake wait to open til you can open his?) Jake can hardly wait to see Paris in her wedding gown!

Other boxes are on their way to...about...let's see...FOUR rescues! Rescues out there, if I could find your email addies I included that on your packaging info so that you would get a notice to let you know a tracking number and when to expect it. I think I ID'ed the Jakes and Sssnakes in most of the boxes, if not look at the bottom of the label for a note!

I am thinking most, if not all, boxes should be delivered by the end of the week! I can hardly wait to hear how the gifts are, hopefully everything is needed and useful!

Lori, SO glad to hear about Teddy! YAY!

I'm feeling really good about having most of my SS stuff on its way...of course there may be some more little things that I find before Christmas...I'll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, I have to shop for my local people and ponies...I better get busy!
