Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • My thoughts are, with closing the FB group, now people can't see what's going on. Shouldn't a rescue group be transparent (as has been stated but I'm re-stating for effect/purpose)? I'm a member of other groups but they aren't animal rescues.

I should have joined the group early on, then just watched, but didn't. Too engrossed in the whole thing. I'm still curious about the trailer, though.

I notice that page was just set up yesterday.

Instead of the drama & theatrics of of closing their other page, they could have just set their privacy settings so that others couldn't post to their wall and comments had to be approved. But, they should be giving updates on the horses in their care.

So, this is the new, revamped page? The 'everything is fine on the homefront but the real page is only for THE group' page??

I'm glad CCH came back on and explained a little further.

So, what happens now?? Now that's it's out of the bag the *ahem* rescue is possibly using a dog rescue's number to save horses? Or are there bigger fish to fry??

          • They have pretty much made the "closed" page about other horses - people telling stories and posting pictures - usually the successful rescue story.
Someone on there has asked the question "Is this a rescue site or not?" Is wondering why no available horses were up. Apparently they are now on the other page but Deanna says it's all in the "process" of being uploaded.
Really not sure why they closed that page. Apparently website is not up to snuff either.

Sounds like they have no clue how to effectively use FB groups, pages, and their own website. I know you are shocked.

Well, just a little shocked, but, I have to say, I have my FB page and website for my business and, truly, for me, it's hard to keep up! I was totally clueless about the internet stuff and now have been shoved kicking and screaming onto it. I have adapted and learned to deal with it. Getting it streamlined has been a 'w'itch (think rhyming word) to deal with. 'That' I can empathize with.

Still, I'd like to know about the licenses or numbers for this place.

Oh, I can understand having to struggle to keep up with the technology. I've refused to do anything with Pinterest because FB and our website keep me busy enough for the rescue. BUT if you want to run a nonprofit, you need to make that commitment. I have seen how very much FB has helped the rescue.

BUT they're not professional, and you've GOT to run a professional FB page and website to be taken seriously.

And I'll learn about Pinterest after our big fundraiser (Bluebonnet Horse Expo) is over and I've taken a couple of days off to sleep. (I miss sleep.. ).

True dat. I've learned I had to flat sit down and take the time to do things, and I still get behind. Not an excuse but it's a bigger commitment than I thought it would be in the first place. Heh...

I am on Pinterest but it's my personal one and still haven't gotten around to doing a biz one, if there is such a thing. Twitter is my personal one but it's such a name, no one thinks it's personal.

And another thing, keeping up with all the passwords?? Yikes. So, now I understand why a lot of companies have internet folks just for their internet stuff. I'm not that big....yet....

What I love is that you can set up Twitter & Pinterest to automatically post the Tweet or Pin onto your FB wall.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Pinterest; but sadly, I have cellular, which is limited and slow, broadband; so not a good match for Pinterest. But, I think it would definitely be a great tool for a rescue.

I manage to do the same. Just in the past two days, I was called some charmingly misogynist names. Heh... Didn't even have to break a sweat.

                              • Apparently I missed a discussion about CCH's horses.
All the messages again got deleted.
Someone said they were not prepared for the 31 horses coming in. Big shock there.
Apparently Canada has closed it's borders to our horses for slaughter.
Certain auctions were notified and they mentioned Fallon, NV.

One person I know was banned from the rescue's page for asking if it was a page for a rescue or for posting pretty horses. She asked, very politely, if the rescue planned on posting pictures of horses or information about the rescue.

She was torn to pieces by the members and then banned.

It was copy/pasted on my personal forum.

Deanna Tierney It is about rescue. Many of the people here have rescue horses. Their stories can help others with rescues or people that are considering adopting a rescue horse.

Montie Lyn Robison Liebsack I'm sorry that you are offended by our attempt to make the group a warmer place, and to get to know each other better with "all the pretty horsies", as we are all here to ultimately help the rescue horses. There is not a lot that is being posted by the rescue itself at the present moment, so this seemed like a good opportunity to bring something like this to the group.

I'm happy to know that I am not the only one who has enjoyed all of the posts from our members concerning their horses! smile

Brigette Norman I guess people think this **** happens by clicking your heals. Pay attention to the page and you'd see more than the pretty horses. Would you rather the rescue be out all day caring and nurturing these horses or making sure that the Facebook page is "proper" enough for everyone. Jesus Christ people SHUT UP. It was a great opportunity for everyone to brag about there rescues and maybe give someone else the courage to take on the task by showing and sharing there stories and after maths of rehabilitation. This page is wonderful and so is each and every one of the people contributing! You can't satisfy everyone nor should you feel obligated to. Someone who truly understood the hard work would realize it rakes time to get everything in order.

Tyra Rhnee Canary No. Stuff happens by being honest, and not hiding things. And by not removing people when they ask honest questions. I am also intelligent enough to not have to use foul words and anger to get my point across. I tried sitting back and waiting for the answers to the questions that other were asking, but it seems none are forth coming. There are a lot of nasty rumors going around about this rescue, and I try to keep an open mind, and to be patient before I make a decision. However in this case, I seriously wonder. I am sure I will be blocked for not being all buttery farts and rainbows, but that is not what makes the world go round. I really do wish the hoses well.

My drama?? How I am asking? This is a rescue who is out asking for donations, and we, the public, is not allowed to ask questions about the rescue? Really? If you were planning on donating money, or time, or supplies to a rescue, or other place, would you not ask questions to make sure that your funds or goods would be used correctly?

Montie Lyn Robison Liebsack NNER has been honest and has not hidden anything ~ there are certain things invovling the CCH horses that cannot be released at this point. We realize that not all answers are coming out as fast as some people would prefer, but again, the work with the horses comes first, before anything else. There are a very small group of volunteers who are close enough to help, so it limits the amount of time Deanna can dedicate to everything else with the rescue. You, Tyra have been here for 2 weeks, you really have no idea as to all that has & is going on with the rescue. Yes, we are well aware of the nasty rumors, and the nasty people who start them as well as the nasty people who believe them, but the horses MUST be our first and foremost focus. To me, it sounds like your "open" mind was made up before you came to this group. As for your buttery farts and rainbows, well, if you do not want to be part of the friendly community that makes up this group, you are welcome to leave at ANY time. We have removed & blocked people who were here to do nothing but cause trouble, and we will continue to do so, if need be, to keep this a pleasant group dedicated to helpking horses. If you would like top argue & ***** about NNER, well I'm sure there are other groups & forums that you could go to that will welcome you with open arm, lol! smile

Tyra Rhnee Canary I have no beef with anyone, nor have I attacked anyone at all. No name calling on my end. I have a little bit more class than that.

Tyra Rhnee Canary And again.. show me where I have attacked anyone, much less this group. I asked a simple question, and was then accused, judged and hung by a group of people who have no idea who I am. You are correct, I have been here two weeks, and in that two weeks, have I made one single derogatory remark about anyone on this board, or this rescue? No I have not. So, to accuse me of such may be either a guilty conscience, or simple ignorance.

Montie Lyn Robison Liebsack And the info that you requested regarding taxes, etc. has been posted. The CCH pics are being organized in an album to be posted when it is done. You recieved an honest & polite answer to your original question, and yet you continued with your doragatory attitude towards the rescue & it's members, but yet you want to turn it all around now....anyone can go back & read the prior posts and see for themselves what the truth is. No class in that.

I really do not believe that you will be able to produce any evidence as to such. It is all in perception. I have no attitude, again that is your perception. Simple questions asked, and the people that are supposed to be "friendly" are attacking me, and calling me vulgar?
