Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

You are assuming horses are "contaminated" and no one is testing.

You know what they say about assuming, don't you.

The horse dealers know that so few are tested, the probabilty of detecting drug residues is little to none so they don't think it matters, as long as they get their money.

Just to be clear I also have no problem in limiting or banning some drugs that horse owners us on, feed or inject into their horses.
If all meds, dewormers and supplements had to be administered and documented by a vet that would solve the problem of tainted meat now wouldn't it?

Of course the way supplements, meds and the like are used here it wouldn't be a popular idea.

This is easy to answer. Pretty much everyone involved in the U.S. slaughter pipeline is dishonest and only cares about making a quick buck. No one cares about the horses or where they came from, they just want to get them sold and across the border as quickly as possible.

If you want to talk about countries having low standards one must only look north to our Canadian neighbor as they are the ones slaughtering our horses and selling potentially drug laden meat to other countries. Heck, even the distributors in Belgium were lying about where the horse meat came from.

Your statement that everyone in the chain IS DISHONEST because they are making money is DIRECTLY FROM THE PETA HANDBOOK...I know because I was there when Peta was developing their mission statement..to make it palatable to the general public.

Peta did understand that they had to start with puppies and kittens (cute little kritters) and then move on to puppy mills and finally dog breeders (cats etc)

Then they did have a strategy for horses which was agreed upon by HSUS This occured at the 1989 meeting at Paradise Island.

They saw a greater movement into the auction sales. They saw huge prices occuring and it "concerned" them that people would BREED FOR AUCTION....again that people would BREED FOR AUCTION

It was not until the first recession they saw an opportunity to get their foot in the door. And, it was two fold. Thousands of horses went to slaughter and thousands of horses met "that fate" by going to auction.

HSUS took up the banner. When Wayne was fully entrenched into HSUS it became his objective to pillorize the sale of horses through acutions.

In the late 1990'sand into 2000's more and more individuals would OUT breeders who sold to auctions as they were making money off the sale of the horses by letting them be sold to trippers...meat men...boogey men...satanic men...

The goal, using true believers and followers such as yourself was to get the anti auction and anti selling of horses into the mainstream thought.

It has been succssful. Rather than a breeder selling his/her culls (not bad horses but ones that may not cross with their stallion..mares...or they change focus...or want to upgrade to a better horse or they do want to remove a horse from their program that has genetic flaws or physical flaws..they have made that a BIG NONO

And THAT is where the "forever home" philosophy came from

And we now know they want to redesignate horse to companions and create forever taxes and licenses on all horses.

To a one horse owner...what is another five hundred to a thousand dollars...but to a breeder...they will just quit.

                        NBow..on to other matters

Never stated COTH members have harrassed me. I receive most of my threats from my Anti Scientology stance as I am a speaking on most radio shows everytime a Tom Cruise, John Travolta Kirstie Allen get themselves in hot water.

Unlike many on COTH...I breed horses, I have an animal related business and I do have other interests.

Jenm...as you are now outed...I have posted my name over and over and over and others have commented on my Canadianism etc

I dare you to do the same..I have no idea who you are but I suspect you don't want to disclose much incase one of my HSUS sources can find you in their membership files.

As for RUDE to some of you. Yes..I do admit...I do not suffer fools however when many of you are rude to me or make false accusations (i.e. my family and I own slaughter plants for horses...knowing I only volunteered to help make it more humane) etc I do call you out on it.

When you or a few of your HSUS type buddies make comments to me...well..I deserve it...but when I apply the "turnabout is fair play"...then boo hoo hoo...me makes me feel sad and not good about myself and you quickly move into vicitmhood.

I would love to have the patience like Bluey who stays on the message and does not make it personal. However, like it or not, that is not my style.

Echo makes profound statements i.e. NO horsemeat is for zoo's. What a pile of hooey. There are herds of horses..that local vets (to those herds) KNOW have never been dewormed, vaccinations..drugs of any type because they know the owner has no money or can't be bothered. They DO certify those herds and yes..the zoo's do purchase them.

Alagirl most certainly has not agreed with me on many occasions and could not pick me in a crowd of one.

I had my stance with the Canterbury threads and I did create enemies. So be it. What others think of me is none of my business.

So Jenm... cry away...be the victim ..ahhhh..don't be sad..but don't wait for me to make you feel good about yourself for your stated HSUS.PETA platform.

As Angelou Maya stated: The FIRST time someone shows you who they are... BELIEVE THEM

You continue to attempt to align anyone opposed to horse slaughter with HSUS or PETA and it is not helping you. It is no different than those opposed to horse slaughter aligning others with animal abusers.

Wouldn't be it be wonderful if horse owners could take their horses to an auction and NOT have to worry about them being sold for slaughter?!

And we now know they want to redesignate horse to companions and create forever taxes and licenses on all horses.
The taxes and licenses will come if U.S. horses continue to be slaughtered for human consumption through identification and tracking. And once they have a number attached......

To a one horse owner...what is another five hundred to a thousand dollars...but to a breeder...they will just quit.
If they can't market what they produce and can't afford to euthanize, than they should quit.

No money - can't be bothered? And HUNDREDS of horses?

The differance is that the people oppsoed to slaughter keep quoting from PETA and HSUS. Makes it very easy to believe they are members.

Wouldn't be it be wonderful if horse owners could take their horses to an auction and NOT have to worry about them being sold for slaughter?!

They can do that now. All they have to do is put a reserve on it or outbid the other buyer. No problems.

No there are not specific plants for zoos. They use existing slaughter plants. What is the problem with this?

                            • ECHO and her little band are very aware that the kill floor is washed down when their is a change in production venue. That has been explained...stops cross contamination... One property can serve many production lines

but then how would ECHO know...has NEVER been to an equine slaughter plant.

However this little group don't want to hear that...they would rather just carry on with their same old stories...

Wouldn't it be wonderful if a breeder could take their horses to auction and not be held accountable as to who purchased them?

                                What's your point?

I had my stance with the Canterbury threads and I did create enemies. So be it. What others think of me is none of my business.

So Jenm... cry away...be the victim ..ahhhh..don't be sad..but don't wait for me to make you feel good about yourself for your stated HSUS.PETA platform.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not crying nor playing the victim. I've said before that I don't support HSUS or PETA, but quite frankly, I really don't care if you think I do or not.

As Angelou Maya stated: The FIRST time someone shows you who they are... BELIEVE THEM

You have shown me and I do believe you...
Again, I don't care what you think or believe about me. I will continue to crusade against horse slaughter in any manner I choose, and you are welcome to rant all you want about my alleged PETA ties. It doesn't bother me at all, I find it to be quite amusing.

I believe the most recent EU audits cite the contrary. I will see if I can locate that report tomorrow.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if a breeder could take their horses to auction and not be held accountable as to who purchased them?
really? who are they accountable to now? Some breeders pull the papers to try to hide their breeding 'practices'.

The differance is that the people oppsoed to slaughter keep quoting from PETA and HSUS. Makes it very easy to believe they are members.
maybe you have it backward... sometimes there is actual truths that are inescapable - no matter who said it or where you hear it.

Just because PETA and it's supporters continually repeat it does not make it true.
I support equine meat processing as an option for those who choose to use it.

Do you really think that everything PETA, HSUS etc. posts is all their own material?

There have been several cases in the past that they used other individuals' (non related to them) findings etc. as their original.
There have been lawsuits against HSUS for just that reason.

So yes, others come up with conclusions, conduct investigations etc. totally unrelated to the ARAs.

It's not like Animal Welfare supporters have to use information posted on some website unlike the pro-slaughter brigade.

                                        Pretty sure.

If they relied on other sources they'd shoot themselves in the foot.

Except every notion or opinion posted by Echo is directly from either PETA
                                          or HSUS.

There is nothing wrong with using information from a website. Many people from both sides of the slaughter debate do it. If you post information from PETA or HSUS then you will be labelled as a RARA since you obviously are. If there other sites for this same information please post them so that we can review them.

I do consider myself to be an Animal Welfare person. Do you consider yourself to be for Animal Welfare or Animal Rights?
