Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

I think that is/are the rule changes TWHBEA needs to enact/adopt. Specially if TWHBEA is going to be recognizing champions of these show organizations on their registry. TWHBEA needs to set a standard that no judge or official on any show "card" will be permitted to have HPA violations r/t soring, scars etc. And NO trainer or owner with any HPA suspension shall be permitted show privileges.

Then I think there should be established a show division that is brave enough to operate without DQP. And those that know HPA know that there is no requirement to have DQP to show a gaited horse or any horse. Remember, "HPA applies to ALL horses?" Well the entire HPA HIO Certification process is done entirely to protect the show entities from being held liable if violations of HPA are found on the premises. Operating without a sanctioned HIO will invite USDA onto the premises.

Well I say it is time for a gathering of Gaiters to form a Horseman's association that is TWHBEA USEF etc accepted, that places values on the natural un-enhanced work these horses can do. One that does not judge a waving foot to be the ultimate achievement of a horse and rider.

ANyone get where I am going with this??? Let this be an organization that requires its "members" to be accepted before they can join. Let the membership be elite.

    Think about it.

For many years THE most asked question in TWH Web forums was "how do I get my horse to do a running walk?" The short answer is "get better genes." The longer answer requires about six months of careful, consistent, frequent riding. And even then you'll likely just get an approximation of the running walk.

The stepping pace, performed by most Walkers, can be a comfortable gait for the human and not harmful to the horse if ridden intelligently. The "ham fisted" rider will quickly wear out their horse (in the short and long term). I guess that's going to be true in any breed or discipline.

If the devices that make the Big Lick possible are banned then look for a big spike in "dumped" horses. This is an unintended consequence of a ban, but it will be as real and serious as a heart attack. By my rough count in this series of forums there have been over 300 horses in the last 30 days either "free to a good home" or found in conditions of extreme lack of care. That number could increase significantly if devices are banned. This is not an argument to keep the devices. It is an argument to consider all the consequences of governmental action.

We didn't do that in 1971 when the Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act was passed; now the Government has tens of thousands of horses and burros in pens eating about $50 Million/annum in forage and fodder. We didn't do that when The Red Queen pushed for a ban on transport of horses for slaughter. The anti-slaughter folks didn't consider it's consequences when they drove the legitimate plants our of business. Now private parties are awash in horses they can give away nor properly care for. This leads to the dual consequence of creating criminals and condemning horses to starvation.

Every action has consequences. Every in-action has consequences. Sadly, the American People seem unable to realistically consider consequences that will be distasteful. We just pretend they won't happen and then ignore them when they do. Or just pass ever more restrictive regulation that amplifies the negative consequences. Sometimes life in the 21st Century is not all that pleasant.

Some might consider my thoughts an "off topic" digression. They are not. They are a recitation of historical fact. Those who ignore historical fact are condemned to re-experience such fact. So it's about as "on topic" as you can get.

        G.
        OR

You can come to Canada and locate TWH breeders and purchase from them. The horses up here do have a very natural running walk with head bob BUT not the extreme and also not that horrible sway..

Bick Lick has not been allowed since the late 1950's and so no one has bred for it up here.

                      • Quite a parallel with the showjumper insurance killings of the 80's and 90's, when thugs were faking "colic" and accidental deaths of horses to collect hundreds of thousands for the owners who hid behind their middlemen. Ugh.

                        • Owners should not be allowed to continue to hide behind ignorance. Horses are no longer a tax shelter for the rich. There is little reason to put money into a horse as an owner unless you are involved at some level. If you are involved, you know.

                              • The Cost of “Doin Da Right Thang!”

                                Many have probably heard this religious-philosophical challenge before;

“If you were arrested, charged, then put on trial for the Capital Crime of being a Christian, Would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

Stop a second a think about that, and its soul searching evaluation of our individual resolves.

I now ask you just how strong about an issue are you personally willing to take for standing up for your principles?.

Would you risk losing your freedom?, a mate? Your family? How about your job?

If your job was on the line and you were given an option to reverse your stance and position of a previous declaration to keep your job ~~ or stick to your guns and lose your job.

Which do you think you would do?

I am reporting to you what one man has done and what happened to him as a result of his convictions.

TWHBEA President Tracy Boyd, is a loyal employee of Baskin-Irby Construction, a roofing specialist Company.

His job title is General Manager, some of his duties are sales, customer relations, side trade, which entails gutter and window treatments, down spouts and interior painting as needed.

His owner/employer Randall, Sadie and son Roger Baskin are also avid Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast.

In 2002 Mr. Baskin’s stallion “Out on Parole” won the coveted WGC class of the Celebration. In 2011 Randall Baskin also owned a horse named “Mr. Heisman”, which won the Reserve World Grand Championship 4-yr-old 15.2 and under. Both of these horses are Padded and Chained aka Performance Horses.

In 2012 Mr. Randall Baskin was a principle in a new group formed call the

Tennessee Walking Show Horse Organization (TWSHO).

Randall Baskin issued a challenge to match all contributions raised through the Walking Horse Trainer’s Association up to $100,000.

This (WHTA) is the same organization that Padded and Chained TWH trainer Larry Whealon was serving on the Ethics Committee before being busted and having 19 horses confiscated by authorities for allegations of horse abuse, and now awaits trial.

We all know about President Tracy Boyd’s, May proclamation and his controversial stand to lead the Executive Committee of the TWHBEA Board of Directors to vote in favor of supporting the Whitfield Amendment H.R. 1518 as it was written, only to not be ratified by the full board that were in attendance that day.

Sadly, and regrettably a couple days ago Mr. Boyd was terminated from his “Day Job” at Mr. Baskin’s company, reasons given, could be anything, but we all would be safe in speculating the real reason why.

Me? I think Mr. Boyd has an excellent Temporal-Proximity Case ~~~

                                “Whatcha talkin bout Preacher?”

The 6th Circuit has held that where an adverse employment action occurs very close in time after an employer learns of a protected activity, such temporal proximity between events is significant enough to constitute evidence of a causal connection for the purposes of satisfying a prima facie case of retaliation.”

                                I’d check that out

For a long time I have called the PH faction ~ bullies, I stated a few days ago how all this bravado and defiance we are hearing about PH horses wanting to leave TWHBEA and form their own org and the other mess some have heard ~~~~ was all about money.

Well what you do about squaring behavior like that is to take money from them ~ legally in a court of law.

Mr. Boyd has a family, wife & 10-year-old, 8-year-old and 19 month-old-child, ~~~ today he is without employment,. Yes, millions are out of work, I am not minimizing this fact, but most of the unemployment is due to unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances. However,

Mr. Boyd did not have to be unemployed today if he reversed his position of supporting the Whitfield amendment.

I now indict all of the internet scoffers, detractors, and behind the computer screen Judges and critics that scream how they will not join up! Register their horses! Until they've seen proof that TWHBEA truly was making changes for the future.

Mr. Boyd has shown you his “HorseFax” ~~~~ Show him yours by joining the organization ~ he put his family in jeopardy to hold his ground.

Some folks have led the way, opened the doors for easy access, the next thing is for you to come in, you may have to help clean up, cobwebs, repairing some needed projects, but this is now our clubhouse!

I know what that is like with this group, they are nasty people those who make these decisions ~~~

                                I now put the mantel of courage on him, that I feel has earned of my favorite mantras;

~ Dare to be a Daniel
                                ~ Dare to stand alone
~ Dare to have a purpose firm
                                and
~ Dare to make it known

So I ask “How ya gonna act?”

                                The Preacher

                                • Come on Preacher..... I appreciate the work you are trying to do inside the org. but you are losing me when you start comparing the TWHBEA to Christians or the church.

                                  • CFFarm - What do you think sustained Preacher in this long battle? This glaring light? I think not.

Preacher did not lose me in the analogy. This examples the cost of change and the reason for clinging to the pads and chains by TWHBEA.

It really will come down to $$ and 'purpose firm.'

I am glad you are there, Preacher. It is a story that needs to be told. It is not the last chapter either.

Now, I hope Mr Tracy realizes a bigger purpose in his life and walks with real Kings from this hard day forward.

I re-read it and realized I did not state that Tracy is a born again christian trying to live a righteous life (that is; "Right Living"_or "Living Right") and as

Abraham Lincoln once said "If not for the Bible, we would not know right from wrong"

He and I have spoken of the conviction of his heart because of his faith to no longer deny what he knew to be the truth,

you would not believe how many of these people will stand up right there in the meeting and tell you that they are Christians, but they do not see that they are doing anything wrong..

Enlightenment comes to all of us (most times) at different times and stages of life

Hurley is absolutely right in my family's resolve to give all the glory to God in this and being ridiculed for applying Christian principles to my daily living is part and partial of what motivates me and why

I hope there is enough evidence to convict me of being a Christian if it came down to it!

As for me and my family; We will serve The Lord..and not be ashamed to say it..it goes beyond have a fish symbol on the rear bumper of my car...it is standing up sometimes face to face and speak it despite the consequences

As far as I'm concerned the "shield" does not exist. If they are involved owners that actually lay hands on their horse and not legally blind, they know but choose to ignore. I do think a savvy prosecutor could prove it in a court of law.
