Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Dublin Pinnacle wearers

I am looking at the Dublin Pinnacles, but have a couple questions for those of you who wear them.

    1) I see that the laces are threaded through a textile loop. How well has that fabric worn over time/use?

    2) Do you have to re-lace or re-tighten each time you put them on?

    3) Do you know where a measurement chart is that would list the calf width?

Thanks for any input; my internet sleuthing today is lacking.

Someone else just posted on these. I don't know the exact sizing. I have a 15.5" calf (wide in tall black boots) and the pinnacles fit with room. There is a drawstring at the top of the boots to tighten them as needed. I do not have to retighten them. The ankles are big in them. I have had them for about 4 months and ride in them every day and they hold up well.

I have Pinnacle boots. I'm not sure about calf size but I have pretty big calves and I have no problem fitting into these boots with room to spare.

Foot sizing does run large, I usually wear a 7 but with these a 6 works great.

No need to re-lace these boots at all, the laces are mainly just for looks.

The tabs for the laces have held up well for me.

I do have to say that after a year these boots aren't waterproof anymore, but still really stylish to wear around and would do fine in the occasional mud puddle, I just can't slog through ankle deep mud or give bathes with them anymore. But I did completely abuse them...

What if you have little calves? Can you tighten them to fit?

I emailed a company about these, and they said they ran fairly true to size (they did mention that other Dublin boots run large), so I don't know what size to order

SAcres, do you have a narrow, medium or wide foot? That might make a difference in fit.

I have very large calves, one reason why I chose these. They are EXTREMELY comfortable and soft on the first wearing.

They absolutely run large, I haven't worn a 6 since my 20's, (3 decades ago) and the 6.5 is roomy. (it cost $15 to mail back, I decided to "settle" roomy is better than too tight)

As for the laces, I loosen them each time just a bit when removing, then just a quick pull on each "cross" from the ankle up to tighten & adjust each time I put them on. No big problem.

My biggest fear is getting my foot caught in the stirrup & not being able to get out of them, but that goes for any boot I suppose.

And if the fabric tube lace "holder" ever fails, I'd send them back to Dublin for a (better be) free repair.

I have 12 inch calves and they tighten enough to fit well, so they are very adjustable.

Mine fell apart after one winter.

Super comfortable and warm, but I don't want to buy a new pair of boots every year.

Did you wear them frequently or in hard conditions?

I plan to wear them just once or twice a week, when I ride after work. I only ride one horse, don't have to muck a stall, but might have to go in the wash rack. I hope that's not too much use for them.

I don't want to buy a new pair every year, either. Yet, I don't feel like shelling out for extra-fit Dubarrys right now.

I received a pair of the Dublin River boots, but they were too small in the calf (barely fit over a thin-sock-clad leg; I'm about 15.25" around). They're currently being shipped back to exchange for the Pinnacles.

                  thanks everyone for your input!

I ride between 15-20 horses a week, so I think yours would last notably longer than mine did.

                      update

Finally received the Pinnacles last night. I'm not so sure they're going to work out.

Even with the laces completely loose, and in thin nylon socks, I can barely get my foot through the instep.

I'm not sure I like how the velcro strap at the top only meets halfway; I think it's going to collect dirt & other junk.

                      <sigh>

I've got two days to notify the company if I'm returning them and I'll have to eat yet another shipping charge. (It's not Smartpak).

I want something I can pull on over any reasonable sock I'm wearing without much effort.

                      They're cute, but...

Maybe I should just bite the bullet & order some Dubarry ExtraFits from Smartpak at the end of the month.

                      <double sigh>

Net Equestrian has them for $164.90 with free shipping and free returns. I might have to give them a try.

                          That's a great deal!

If based on the sizing comments on this thread, you think they'll work for you, do it. They are nice boots.

I love these boots! Wear them all the time at the barn. My second or third year with mine and all I need to do is figure out how to clean them. Size fit perfect for me, but I have wide feet, so I never had to adjust the size. Fit my calves very well and can adjust the sides if I am wearing thicker socks or thinner socks.

Just updated the other thread, so thought I'd post here, too:

The Dublin Pinnacles, which I got as an early (September) Christmas gift, are OK on my calves, but not tight. They fit well over jeans. My calf is around 14 or 14.5 inches. The height is OK, too, but not as high as tall boots. I mainly wear them for trail riding in a bareback pad, to do chores, and around town, so the height works fine for me. They have height and calf width on their website.

I really like them, although the foot and ankle are a little wide for me. They are still very comfy and I can put on thick socks. I might put something in the foot bed, too, but haven't gotten around to it.

My husband loves them and thinks they are very sexy

Assuming your stitching is still intact, any sporting goods store will have a cheap bottle of waterproofing spray you can probably use. Either for sneakers or tents.
