Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

I think the pink tack is cute for a little girl. The haflinger in the picture looks like one I sold about 3 years ago.

The mare in the pickup? Years and years ago, it was quite common to haul livestock in the back of a pickup with wooden or pipe sides. Anybody seen the movie, the Rounders with Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda? They hauled their old roan horse all over creation in the back of a pickup.

“Our horse is apx. 5 years old, he is fully broke and was originally used as a roping horse. We paid $1000 for him, and don’t really want to get rid of him; however he has bread our paint and has recently taken to abusing our new little philly. We are motivated sellers as we have no where to put him to keep them sperated. I am afraid he is going to seriously hurt the little one or worse… Breed with her. please give us a call at ######### . Prior to having the philly he was the sweetest most loving horse. We think he is jellous of the little one. Please make an offer. I can take more pic.s of him and send them to you via cell ph. if you’d like. “

Please help! I have been lucky enough to land my dream job in France, but unfortunately that means I have to part with my beloved pet Sheba. Sheba is a 9 year old Pygmy Elephant. She was a gift from an ailing Vet Med teacher while I was in grad school. She is very affectionate and loving. She is free to a loving home with adequate space and means to take care of her. She requires a large, fenced in area (at least an acre), she has no dietary restrictions but her feed of choice is grass hay. She loves peanuts and bananas for treats. She gets along well with other animals, she has a great relationship with our Great Dane. She requires a large animal vet for annual check ups, I have a great vet if you would like to meet him. I must take a look at all potential homes to make sure it will be suitable for my dear pet. If interested do not email me, I am in the process of moving and don't have time to check my emails so CALL ME! My name is William and my phone number is (719) *** ****. Thank you for looking and have a great day!

At least they're coming down on it, it started out ot 1800.00. You couldn't give me that piece of rust!:

16 foot Livestock horse cattle trailer, 6 1/2 feet tall, 6 feet wide inside

This trailer pulls well and has lights and a rubber mat flooring. Also a divider gate.

It has some surface rust but not anything structurally relevant that I know of, this trailer is fully functional.

No title. You can take to DMV and get one for $35.00.
Tires will get you around for a while but could use some new ones.

                            $1350 obo

Some rust?? Hell on the interior pics you can see the DAYLIGHT coming through EVERYWHERE!

Miniature Horse Herd Liquidation - $8250 (Chesapeake, VA)

Miniature Horse Herd Liquidation - $8250 (Chesapeake, VA)

I have a herd of Miniature Horses for sale. There are approximately 30 mares; most under 34". Some are A.M.H.A., some are A.M.H.R., some are both, and some I just never registered. The vast majority are various colors of paints, buckskins, with very few solids. This is a managed genetic breeding herd, just beginning to produce Micro Minis. There are a few with terrible hooves; but, are not lame; most have great feet. Herd is producing 85% 50/50 Paints. Foals are ranging from 16" to 18" at birth. Micro Minis have been produced with the 29" black & white, 50/50, paint stallion mares have been exposed to for the 2012 foal-crop. I'd like to sell the entire herd in one fair swoop. With health failing, I just cannot do this anymore, (I have advanced degenerative joint disease and every form of arthritis known to man in my body). Before I cannot go out and tend to them or run-out of money to feed them, I'd rather send the entire herd go on down the road so someone wanting to get into the business can continue what I began in 1985 and be quite successful. This is a great business opportunity for the right person. I have had many inquiries; but, so far, all are amateurs or time wasters. I would accept $275.00 per mare; all 2011 foals have been sold, (none for under $300.00). All or none; don't even ask otherwise.

I REALLY REALLY think you need to reconsider your prices in this economy and the fact that it's still winter:

I am willing to sell the appaloosa named Zip age 13 blind in one eye and he has a fly mask haulter and lead rope, a bucket and some brushes with him for 1200 obo. A Bay mare named Grannie maybe 18 her teeth are really worn down and she has been having trouble keeping weight on this winter she has the same stuff as him but no fly mask and has a green blanket for 300 obo I don't mind if they dont stay together. And I have a horse named Bella who is a redish color and a brown one name Abbie they are quarter horses 2 1/2 years old I really want them to stay together because they have never been apart and because they are sisters. they come with the same things the other ones have besides the blanket and fly mask for 2000 obo . the app is able to be riden but need some work he has not bucked anyone off but he has never really been trained. Grannie needs to get some weight on her and she will be the perfect horse we used to ride her all the time untill she started to lose weight. The babies are not yet broke but they seem like they will be great horses. I wish I could keep them but I cant. We will have a vet come out to see them before you get them. we would like to see the pasture you are going to put them in before you get them. They are my babies and I want to make sure they will be going to a great home. We will bring them to you. These pictures are from last summer the babies are much fatter and taller now and grannie is skinnier but zip has not changed. please email me with any questions you have

I am in the beginning stages of horse shopping, and thought, "Why not Craigslist? There may be a gem there." Well, there is--but a gem of a different sort.

First, I saw this ad for a stud:
                                    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...826731313.html
"6 YRS OLD STALLION RUN AS A PRO AT HOLLYWOOD PAK TWO YRS. There are so many things wrong and/or missing from that ad, I don't know where to start. The photo is far from a conformation shot, for one...and WTF is "As a pro"? Who the heck is Cristal? :::headdesk:::

Then I saw a curious ad about riding lessons "with a champion horse." I open it up and it's the SAME GUY advertising lessons on this SAME STALLION:
                                    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...826713626.html
"ONCE IN A LIFE TIME OPPOURTUNITY TO LEARN HOW TO RIDE HORSES , ALSO THIS IS A PURE BRED , THOROUGHBRED HORSE , LAST YEAR HE RUN AT HOLLYWOOD PARK AS A PRO, BUT NOW HE IS RETIRED AND LOVES TO GO OUT FOR WALKS AND HORSES TRAILS , NOW IT IS YOUR CHANCE TO SEE HIM AT CLOSE AND PERSONAL AND RIDE HIM TOO , LEARN HOW TO RIDE ON THE WEEKENDS , CALL EDDIE AT 323 [removed] FOR ANY QUESTION RATES START AT 30.00 PER HOUR YOU CAN RIDE BEWTEEN 8 AM AND 6 PM CALL IN ADVANCE TO BOOK YOUR SPOT . Wait, it's a different guy--Eddie, not Tino--but definitely the same horse. Wow.
