Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

After reading their Facebook page I believe they need to catch up with the times [like the idea that Arabs are no longer the top sellers they were] for their horses sakes. Quickly.Originally posted by Tamara in TN View Postthey are a much older couple.

'Witch Trot Farm
Buy both Mare and filly in the Halloween sale for $250- cannot beat that bargain....'
Yes, I am glad they are trying to sell some before they have to starve them. I just wish they would take a better route of doing so [like a sale with reserves, or selling to people they know will show and not breed]... and I also hope all these mares are not bred back already. It would probably help if they would register them first also, but if you're going to struggle to feed them through the winter, I can understand choosing not to register them so you can put that money towards hay.
What I do not understand is continuing to breed... last year was not much better economically, than this year... and yet they bred these mares.Yo/Yousolong April 23rd, 1985- April 15th, 2014

Sounds like most 2011 babies were an accident? Really? Stallion got out and a bunch of mares were cycling at exactly the same time? It looks like there are approx 17 foals on this page.
"2011 foals with the GREAT PONY EXPLOSION
This is going to be one of those years- the great pony escape of 2010 will have interesting results- and some planned babies as well - a few surprises and everything that's not sold will be for sale.
This year - make us an offer- send in good references for vet and farrier and we are very reasonable- good homes most important."

Is this a camera angle issue or is there something drastically wrong with this foal's head?
http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL426.../398719436.jpg
I'm not an "Arab person" and I find their business/rescue style disturbing.
But, they do have some decent looking foals. The one called True Blue is nicely put together IMO. Now I have no idea if that's decent Arabian conformation or not, not knowing what's considered correct. But I think it's a cute sturdy little filly.

Yes, I agree, there is something VERY weird about that head shot ... like the bones are deformed. Gah.
As for True Blue, the neck on that filly is very short for an Arab. Otherwise, body is quite muscular, which I would also not expect on a purebred Arab filly.
The 401K colt actually looks fairly good to me, he's just presented roughly.
The Mr. Chips is cute, but please don't cross a mare with no known pedigree --that's gaited -- to an Arabian if you expect to get more that $100 for a foal.
Take a look at the "feather turned black" photo with the mare -- clearly they aren't feeding all their horses a heck of a lot. That mare is thin.
Touch of magic is also cute, but she's 1/2 saddlebred, 1/2 caspian. Poor mare!! The fillie's head is huge! Sigh.
The Bel Air colt is actually really nice...he's well put together and looks palomino. Sheltand Appy cross could either be the hardest trier in the world or the horse from hell, however!

All we need, another registry!
American Family Horse registry, courtesy of Witch Trot Farms.
http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/18063539
You can send me $25, I will send you a printed picture of your horse on a piece of paper, too! I already have the "complicated database software."This is a new registry dedicated to providing identity and history services for all horses, all ages, all breeds - for every horse. It is a SIMPLE REGISTRY ( except for the database software)- no membership, no dues, no magazine and all the open events you can get to. This is not a breed registry so has nothing to do with breeding- it records the first sire and dam, if they are known, for identification use only. If this certificate comes with your new foal, you can get breed papers by contacting the breeder and paying the breed registry fees.
You can get these papers for your own family horse- you don't need to know all the information on the form. All you need to register is the application, three picture, and $25.

I think that one is a QH x Arab, the comments above one of the photos said something about a QH IIRC.As for True Blue, the neck on that filly is very short for an Arab. Otherwise, body is quite muscular, which I would also not expect on a purebred Arab filly.
The neck is a little thick for a QH too, but the rest is kinda cute.
I noticed that bony broodmare too, sheesh. Poor girl looks all used up and in need of groceries big time.
I hadn't noticed that little pally was a Shetland x Appy. LOL, that one should be fun! I'm betting you're right, it'll either be a perfect kids' mount or it'll eat small children for fun, LOL!
I can't get over that foal's head though. The other photos don't look *as* bad, but not good either. You jump in the saddle,

$600 per year? If that is their projection on their business plan no wonder they are failing! OMG - My vet & shoer bills are more then that per year per horse!

600 a month is cutting it close!

Yes, I am glad they are trying to sell some before they have to starve them. .
they bred mostly pony crosses with fluid results for a long time and they/we live in a place where broke trail horses are and have been easy to get for $500 for a long long long time.
past that, I am not in their business.

At least part of the weirdness is that there are diamond shaped black shadows - from window grates or something - over the strange looking part of the head. (You can also see them on the shoulder.) That makes the bright parts appear like bulging veins or something, but they aren'tOriginally posted by MistyBlue View PostIs this a camera angle issue or is there something drastically wrong with this foal's head?
http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL426.../398719436.jpg
Then either the angle or the horse halfway through blinking makes the eye look small, low, and odd.
I believe that's the same foal (Diamond Day) as the two photos above - you can see that the horse isn't horribly deformed. Not the most beautiful head I've ever seen either, but not the horrific monster that one photo makes it appear to be.

Ahhh, I hadn't noticed the shadowed "X" on the foal's head above his eye.
That does indeed make a difference now that I look at it again. The X shadow had made the foal's skull look really wonky...like his bones were all trying to escape through his skin, LOL!
I did notice in the other photos that, while homely, his head didn't look malformed. Well, not THAT malformed. IMO any Arab that comes out with that weird seahorse shaped head is malformed.
(WHY do some breeders try for that queer looking head? Arabians have some of the loveliest shaped heads of the equine world, why screw them up so drastically and think it's attractive???)You jump in the saddle,

We visited the 'main tourist attraction' in the place and I vowed to never again get out of the car anywhere in Kentucky except, perhaps, Lexington
As a side note, I've seen breeder's liquidate at ALL levels and very few are selling open mares. Aside from the wonky head, the horses look decent for what they are, though the owners seem a little out of touch but they are, by far, NOT the craziest horse people out there
(They honestly sound like the old horse trader near here who has since passed but back in the day he would have been a message board trainwreck but in real life... Just an eccentric local institution
)
