Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Giles and Christine are perhaps in shock over the turmoil of losing their BUSINESS! Please have some compassion and stop expecting them to pick up the phone as their first thought to how to handle their livelihood coming apart like this.

If you trusted them to do the right thing with your blankets for washing them, please trust them to do the right thing in terms of getting the blankets back to you.

No, I have NOT been in touch with either of them for many years, as I no longer reside in the area, but I've trusted them both in a myriad of business transactions over the last 16 years and I cannot allow my trust to be broken by what has happened to so many businesses of late.

I am not negating anyone's fears of what is happening with their personal property at THS, however, please do not underestimate the trauma of losing your business and trying to figure out "what next?".
Ok...I know both Giles and Christine well....as I have stated at least twice..I feel for them, no ill will. HOWEVER, I do not apologize for being concerned as to where my 1200.00 worth of blankets are. You would think that the new owners would at least have something up on the new website telling folks if they actually have consignment saddles, laundried blankets, etc. I have emailed them. Quite frankly, I'm tired of people thinking some of us are being cruel just because we are wondering what may have happened to expensive merchandise.

I think everyone is doing the best they can, but I can certainly feel compassion for BOTH sides in this.

Anyway, I'm glad that someone was able to find the pickup place--it's more than I was able to do! Thanks for posting the actual address of the place.
EXACTLY..THANK YOU. No one is heartless or evil for simply being concerned about feeding their animals and wondering what happened to their things.

I'm just saying that they could be cut a little slack. I'm not saying that blankets, saddles, feed, etc aren't important--of course they are. But these are reliable, trusted, long-standing members of the community. To assume that items left in their keeping might have evaporated (my words!) is a bit of a leap. Sure, leave them a message, shoot them an email, that appropriate. But for goodness sake, their world just got rocked for reasons that we may or may not know and because these are people that we've all known and trusted, I think they are entitled to have a bit of time to get things sorted out.

I do think it is asking a lot of Triangle Horse Sports to go above and beyond anything that is the norm for this type of *issue*. The fact that there is a new place already posted that is trying to handle the prepaid/outstanding items shows that they were actually trying to go much further than many would under the circumstances says a lot for them.

Maybe they didn't do it in the best possible way to suite everyone, but it sure looks like they have been trying to handle this in a manner that gets everyone's stuff back to them eventually.

Some of you have no idea what a difficult situation this is.

To all of our loyal customers:
It is with very heavy hearts that we must inform you that due to a situation beyond our control, Triangle Horse Sports has closed. We apologize for this happening so quickly, but we had no choice in the matter. We hope that this is not causing you any hardship. If so, please know that it is unintentional and accept our apologies. We thank you all for your years of support, and wish you and your horses well.
                Thank you again,
                Gilles and Christine

When I worked at THS, the blanket laundering was subcontracted out to another individual. I'm not sure if that is still the case, but I'm sure that if you contact the new tack store, they can give you some more information.

Take a deep breath.... I'm sure your blankets are fine.

Christine, thanks for the official update. Hope y'all are doing okay. Let me know if I can help with anything.

I spoke to Fools and Horses today and they were more than helpful to check the blanket laundry log book to help me locate my blankets. The blanket laundry program is contracted to Cedar Meadow Farm. If your blankets just needed washing, then they may be ready for pickup. If you needed repairs, that service is way backed up.

The number that I called was posted on page 2 of this thread. I checked on a friends blankets and while they were logged, there was no phone number in the log book for her to be contacted.

I hope this info helps those who are worried about their blankets. From the conversation I had with F&H, I am confident that all blankets will be accounted for. Just call or go by the new store when they open on Saturday.

My heart is breaking for you and Gilles. I am so sorry this has happened. I know you and Gilles would never do anything to treat your customers with anything other than stellar service and respect. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Your tack shop has always been one of my very favorite parts about visiting home. I will miss those visits terribly.

Years ago a major tack store closed on Long Island. Just. Shut. It's. Doors. In addition to consignments they had a thriving leather repair business. When the saddler was told about the closing he called every customer he could and told them to come get their stuff. My friend got her two pairs of boots and a saddle out, but I recall many others not being so lucky.

You apparently have trouble reading for comprehension. Did you miss the part about no familiar faces last week. It appears that the Fools and Horses people were already in charge and that's what the receipt said. THEY could have told me then. And their level of customer service didn't come close to Gilles either.

Yesterday I posted quickly from my phone because the staff at Fools & Horses asked me to post their contact information. They were extremely helpful and will try as hard as they can to make things right for the customer, that was their main concern.

Please keep in mind that they do NOT have any customer contact information from THS so please do not wait for them to contact you, call them if you have questions about blankets, prepaid merchandise, feed or hay.

They have plenty of feed and will get tractor trailer loads of hay starting next Saturday (they will do this every Saturday from 10-6).

                                      feed, bedding hay delivered

Pittsboro Feed has most of the feed carried by THS and they have been very helpful in ordering what I need now that THS closed and also they deliver. so for all the horses in southern or western triangle the remaining feed and tack stores are happy to help.
Lets help keep our existing feed and tack stores alive. ace hardware in Apex also closed and had supplied many of us with feed and equine basics and they had been there a long time. The manager had horses , knew how to help you grow good pasture
and thats another good resource gone and people w/o jobs,
I guess I'm pushing to use the stores we know and keep them going .when I spoke with Fools and horses they were nice but very clear they won't deliver not even hay.
and don't forgot "its all about horses" small but knowledgeable horse people and service.
I'll miss THS they delivered our feed /hay even though we're at least 45 minutes away, good people.

I went to the Fools & Horses store today at Alexander/Miami. They are still unpacking and arranging merchandise -- this is not a flashy 'Grand Opening' situation. Even with these less-than-ideal circumstances they were very friendly, helpful and obviously working their butts off. The blanket situation is also not ideal, through no fault of their own.

IF YOU GO -- they do not yet have a sign up and the dark windows of the stores make it hard to see in. They are next to the "Worth It Cafe".

Not great economic times to be relocating/taking over a business. I wish them well and will do my best to 'buy local' and support them.

I am saying this as an outsider, albeit a frustrated one.

For those people that are worried about their blankets not to worry...Fools and Horses has them and are totally responsible for them now. For those of you that said its out of thier control you are just silly. They knew what they were doing and when they were doing and how they were doing it so stop trying to cover their tracks for them. If you have other concerns about you blankets some one posted the company that they are contracted out to. Triangle Horse Sports has nothing to do with any blankets any more. That is the same to say with pre-ordered merchandise, as well as returns and repairs on stuff.

For those of you that are frustrated about the sudden closing of the store...even the THS employees didnt know it was closing. They showed up to work with the doors locked just like the customers did. Gilles and Christine did not even see it coming as swift as it happened. However the Fools and Horses people had plenty of trucks ready and waiting Saturday night to load up stock and move to their new location and start their new store in Durham. Whatever business issues that arose were not delt with well as far as the staff and clients are concerned. They knew way well before that Saturady that they were closing THS for good and could not even call the staff to tell them they were out of work. There should be plenty of support for Gilles and Christine. They have done nothing but try and work with people even after the closing of the store. I know that they wish Fools and Horses well, and I think that is very big of them considering the way that they treated them, the staff and the loyal customers that came into THS.
