Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • Red Flags blaring, what is the story behind this craigslist ad?

This isn't passing my smell test but maybe it's legit?

    http://eastoregon.craigslist.org/grd/2356087431.html

    From the ad:
This horse now has someone willing to PAY for him if he has a good home to go to. He is going to be sent to the kill buyers feedlot in Zillah tomorrow if he is not sold today. If you are interested in giving this horse a home PLEASE post ASAP on the Phantom Meadow Equine Facebook page. To get there just click on this link:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chehal...03659559675355

You will have to be able to arrange to pick up the horse yourself. To arrange to assume ownership you must first make contact with the sponsor who's name is Jennifer on the Phantom Meadow facebook page. Once you have established that you can pick up the horse and give it a good home you will then have to make the arrangements to do so by calling 509-945-2572. MANY people are trying very hard and going out of their way to try and save this horse from going to slaughter including the fellow below who is trying to sell it for the owners, the person offering to pay the purchase price and the many others who are spreading the word about the horse. TODAY is the last day to save this horse - he goes to the feedlot tomorrow morning. PLEASE consider giving this horse a home. Thank-you!!

Graceful, GORGEOUS Arab must sell asap - going to kill buyer on Monday - $350 (Yakima)

Looks to me like another rescue taking emotional hostages.

Sounds like a rescue.....found a sponsor to pay for the horse but sponsor apparently can't take him home.....looking for a home. Apparently current location is with seller who wants him gone, now, so is willing to sell to feedlot or feedlot buyer. Person taking the horse home will have to arrange transport. I hate these ads......reminds me of several sleazy "rescue" operations that used the "he's going to slaughter tomorrow" (which he may but I'm not entirely sure that's a good reason to buy a horse....guilt makes people do some stupid things) to get donations from sponsors and then some poor bleeding heart to accept a horse that no one really knows.

Think that rescue is CBER reincarninated. Different folks on the personnel,
but have heard CBER lost their 501c3 status and had resurfaced. Maybe
they are a totally, different organization....

hmmmm... CBER--Columbia Basin Equine Rescue anyone? They operate under a different name now. Not sure if that's the one, but I've seen a lot of ad's that are written that way and have the contact name as the name of the woman (Sam something) that ran CBER. And they're in that area, Zillah/Yakima.

Just do a search on Fugly for the CBER saga.

Haha, actually I've been googling since I posted this and found Phantom Meadows linked to Samantha Milbredt in several places on the interwebz.

Looks like it is CBER reincarnated.

A friend of mine sent that to me and was actually going to send them money too. I'll now go tell her to keep her pointer off the paypal button.

It is CBER, just with a different name. They flood Craigslist throughout the Pacific and Inland Northwest.

Ask them questions and they get just as nasty as they did when they were operating as CBER

They ran some ads in my neck of the woods as Rebels Equine. Sam's name was used in the ad. I "think" the pic of the guy is the same rider in my local CL. Not sure but oh-so-similar.

They are absolutely one and the same. CBER is Rebel's Friends is
Phantom Meadows. The same phone number is connected to all three.

I would guess that the name change has come about because so many people connected the dots between CBER and Rebel's Friends.

Sad but true. I was a victim of CBER financially, but have mixed feelings because I have a horse (and her baby) that I LOVE to pieces thanks to CBER. However, I found my mare in 2006 and that was before Sam/CBER became greedy. I don't regret my involvement at all because I got so lucky, but it does make me sad that they feel they have to keep re-naming them selves every couple of years.

This is a bit scary. I just got a horse form Rebels equine. We bought him from the lot supposably and QTed him at Sam's farm.
I am actually going to meet the truck right now.
I did not send what I feel was extra money for this horse.
Would someone PM me with the low down. I really don't feel that I was scammed.
Well I will see. Off to meet the shipper.

                              Here's a synopsis.

Good luck. If you actually get the horse. If there actually was ever a horse. Often what she does is take the money, not let you have the horse, tell you it died, whatever, resell it, or sell it on to a feedlot anyway.

Hope you aren't paying her for the shipping.

Oh, well, you're in it now, but let us know what happens. Hopefully it will work out for you.

Best to do research before you give money to rescues.

Just don't try to write off any donations - her 'rescues" are scams to make money for her and her friends, and she is not registered as a charity under any names. She does give out false charity numbers, but its not legal or real.
Airborne? Oh. Yes, he can take a joke. Once. After that, the joke's on you.

Horse came last night/early this morning. He is the same horse as in the picture.
We sent a check to the feed lot guy (we bought 3 horses total). '
A check to Sam for boarding ,paid the vet for health certificates etc separately and paid the shipper.
All of it seems very above board.
Horse seems nice. Just a baby. No papers, but has a tattoo. Still has racing plates on.
The only thing I feel nickle and dimed about was that she charged me extra to do a separate brand inspection and then put them all on one brand inspection page under my friends name.
We did get them out of QT early because there was a truck headed this way.
I did not donate any money. She did not bill herself as a real rescue or ask for donations.
Hopefully I am a success story.

Oh and I do believe the horse was at the feed lot ready for transport to Canada. That was reconfirmed by another TB track person up in that area.

You may have gotten lucky or there may be another shoe ready to drop. You won't really know until you know.
It was nice of her to provide you with QT, though in the ol' days it wasn't much of actually QT- ie horses were way too close together and some in the same pens with other horses. But those were the ol' days when they moved a dozen or two a week, so maybe she's not as crowded there on Daddys farm anymore.
ETA go to this website, that you can find from the Phantom Meadow Facebook [note the names?] page scroll down to Deacon and then the 3rd pic under his name... see those pens, that is their 'QT' at Panayotopulous' farm....

Sorry but those horses can touch noses over the panels.

I wonder if she still dates the child abusing, from the window of a moving car cat throwing waste of humanity.
Interesting that she still does not use her legal name.

According to the FB page, Phantom Meadow Equine is in Chehalis and that is about 150 miles west of here. I've never heard of Rebels Equine and I live in Yakima County. Of course, CBER never advertised here either. She did work the local horse clubs though for donations. I haven't seen this particular horse advertised on Craigslist and I look most every day. I can say though that there were a LOT of horses at the feedlot last week when I was headed for the lower valley. And yes, I'm pretty sure she is still dating the pond scum.
