Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • I have a horse but I cannot ride for a bit.. (health stuff)

He is a stout 15.2H qhxdraft
He is good for Novice riders but excells better with an experienced rider. He jumps anything, responsive and tries his best at anything. He is quite undersaddle. A bit pushing on the ground but you get used it it. He is a good boy.

Looking for someone to ride him 4X or more times a week. In capital district, NY.

          • Posting for a friend: Horseless rider in Sonoma County, CA.

Experienced rider: competed in jumpers, hunters and evented, used to ride (professinally) for a number of dressage and jumper trainers, ridden breeding stallions, OTTBs, foxhunted, started babies etc. Hasn't ridden much the past couple of years due to work commitments. Too tall for ponies, but willing to ride most anything else.

This is a complete shot in the dark (the alaska part especially.

I'm small enough (and stubborn enough) to ride ponies, but can also ride the big guys. I've done up to the 3'6 jumpers, but its been a while and my confidence ain't where it used to be. I'd love to get on something and hack, and I love starting babies (have backed quite a few wbs and some ponies).

And just for the record (should 3 Mares not find me to be to her liking )...

Horseless rider in Ithaca. I am here doing graduate work through the spring (and probably summer) of '06 and I am suffering major horse withdrawal. I am primarily a dressage rider (shown training, level 1), but I am glad to ride a sane horse trained in any discipline for pleasure. Vice-free, steady greenies are fine.

                    • Horseless rider in northern Maryland.

I'm an older junior who will ride just about anything, the more personality the better. ("Personality" includes "tendency to attempt to buck rider off within three seconds of placement of foot in stirrup iron.") Experience in hunters, equitation, some field hunting and hunter trials, no formal dressage training but solid flatwork basics, no formal eventing training but have schooled horses cross-country (interval training, etc.). Will ride anything, but unfortunately do not fit on small ponies very well anymore.

                      • Horseless in Bellingham, WA.

Intermediate level college student without the budget to pay board. Currently horseless and wants to ride! Hunter experience, small enough for ponies, but also fits on regular horses too. Currently coursing 2'6", should be able to step up to 3' if I had the right mount and a few lessons under my belt . OK to ride greenies, especially ponies. But only if they have a sane mind - I'm the first to admit I'm not super brave around hot, spooky things over 16 hands.

Willing to travel up to Mt. Vernon, WA or up to Aldergrove, BC, Canada. Especially over Christmas break - lots of free time!

                        • I have been holding off but are there any experienced horseless dressage riders in the Tallahassee area? My health is keeping me from riding two wonderful dressage horses who need a rider who is not heavy handed and knows how to use their seat and their legs. They are on my farm and I do have a new fenced in dressage arena but no lights. Ideally, I'm looking for that college student who could not bring her dressage horse up here. I will require references as I am particular about who gets on them and if you're the right one and can help me out, I might be able to help with gas money. PM me and let's talk. Maybe we can work something out. I am here every day, all day.

                          • Just thought I would try my luck out here...horseless rider in the Columbus, GA area; about 15 minutes east of AL border. I've ridden since I was 9 (I'm 20 now), but have not been able to ride consistantly for several years...only a few times a year. There just seems to be no barns offering riding lessons in my area. I've always ridden english, but enjoy riding western (or bareback) as well. My e-mail address is iceprincess85@gmail.com

I've ridden mostly greenies and OTTB's for most of my career. I have limited experience in the dressage/eventing disciplines and have mostly done hunters. Can provide reccomendations!

I rode for years up in NJ but when I moved to Orlando for school my horses and showing were out of the question. I was president of the UCF Equestrian Team in it's 2nd year but I couldn't even afford that It's been two years since I've been on a horse and I rode for 12 years straight

If anyone is in need of a rider for their horses in the vicinity(I live about 10 minutes from UCF), I would love to help out. Oh I'm 5'2" and 115lbs, not appropriate pony size but I fit them.

                                • I have a riderless horse that needs more exercise than I have time. 18 year old QH gelding that is western only and trails exclusively (although a little arena work wouldn't hurt). He's a very good boy but not for a beginner rider, just out of shape and bored. If it works out, I may even let you borrow my trailer to get him to the trail riding areas. PT me if interested.

                                      {edited to add--duh. I'm in southern PA, just north of Stewartstown, easily accessible from Harford and Baltimore counties in MD, and, of course, York County PA.}

I have a riderless horse--awesome sound 20-yo ex-jumper who needs some condition back so he stops looking old! He loves being ridden--in my crappy grass ring, reasonably level pastures, or hacking out through fields and roads.

He is a pure pleasure, but I have a job from hell and a 3 year old (horse) who are sucking up my time...

Anyone interested in showing an active senior a good time? If so, PM me (and I'll hopefully figure it out!).

Here is a deal beyond belief. Daisy is a 13 yr old. QH/Morgan, about 15.2 hh palomino. She is as kind as can be but sadly has been off for a year now. We started riding her again on our farm and she is rusty but trusty. Daisy has thousands of dollars into training, goes english and western. Daisy lives in the horsey district of Dalton, she has a brand new 2 stall barn which has never been occupied. It has a large tack room, a hay loft full of super hay. It has a run in also. There is water and power right at the door, the barn is totally INSULATED including the stalls, they have over head fans inside and out. There is a wooden paddock, there is five acres of pasture wooden and vinyl fenced. Freshly seeded, a small creek and lovely trees for shade. What Daisy needs is this, someone who wants to ride and care for her. You can bring your own horse to keep her company. There is no charge for this. You will be doing Daisy a favor. She will be ridden and cared for while you can keep your own horse with her. Daisy has no vices of any sort and gets along with other horses. She is a super easy keeper. The only thing her owner wants is to be able to ride her from time to time. She has time every few months maybe. Owner is a 14 year old girl who really does not want to sell Daisy. Currently, Daisy is with me in order to be ridden and have company but they miss her at there farm. 5 minutes from town. Lets find Daisy a people ok. PT me </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
