The Horse Protection League has riderless (and adopterless but looking) horses who invite Colorado residents with riding experience to volunteer Wednesdays and Saturdays to groom and love on them and, if approved by the Barn Manager, go for a ride! No beginner horses right now, sorry, but we occasionally get them and need a beginner to play with them.

Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Horseless rider in Broward County South Florida
I am a fairly experienced adult rider and can't seem to find a lesson barn with decent horses.
I ride H/J and can ride greenies, TBs (love 'em), and anything over 15.2 or so (I'm tall). May be interested in doing a half lease. I have not gotten to ride much since I moved here, I miss it.Love my "Slow-T T B"

North of Boston. Our sweet Highland pony has spent a year recovering from Laminitis. She is healthy and happy and ready to go out for walk/trot trail rides with a small adult or experienced junior rider. She is 13.3, cob type...think My Little Pony. She has wonderful manners, a loving disposition and just needs to get off the farm for some lovely fall rides to help keep her weight down. No jumping, no children, please. PM me if interested.

hahah I check here daily for a friend for Daisy, still nothing. There seem to be tons and tons of riderless horses. Ok, must go the tough route with postings at the feed store. Yuk, now I have to sort out the people. Our horses are not seen as the old and disabled they may have become, but rather as the mighty steeds they once believed themselves to be.

Ok, I think I'm ready to let Connor's full sister get some miles under someone. (Connor is my eventing pony, currently competing under Karen O'Connor CCI** level; he has also gone Advanced). Catahoula is about to get her permanent pony card this December (she's big, but not over, age 5), jumps bravely and brilliantly over anything in a ring (but hasn't done anything x-c yet) and has decent, basic dressage. She also will go long and low if you leave her alone (that is her preferred frame) and could start in a hunter division tomorrow (but no flying changes yet). I'd prefer she event AND do some hunters, ideally.
I'd like to see what she can do through the country, but have no access. I'd be willing to help support her and have her compete under someone, but I no longer get involved without a contract and references due to too many disappointing past experiences. If you are interested, email. Oh, and although she is ridden by a 12-year-old now, when she does more--especially x-c, she isn't going to be the lazy packer she is in the ring, so a more advanced rider is necessary. She can be a lot of pony when she gets into it.

Hi y'all (transplanted Texan now in Lodi, CA)...I am new to this forum but have been browsing around a bit. I found this topic and even though its a bit old, I thought rather than start my own I would piggyback on here.
I am currently horseless for the first time in 16 years and looking for a chance to ride more than my lesson budget will allow.
I am a responsible and compassionate rider, with experience riding/showing Arabian Sporthorses, schooling OTTB's and lower level dressage competition.
Anyone in the Stockton, Galt, Elk Grove, Lodi area thathas a horse that is kind (hot and sensitive is OK) sane and rideable needing extra work feel free to PM me here or email me at dirty_sl8@yahoo.com so we can talk further.

Will have a riderless horse beginning in Mid-December until at least Mid-January; I'm having surgery and going on vacation so will be out of commission for at least that month.
Horse is a four year old dutch/hanoverian mare. W/T/C under saddle, but green. Going to the trainer to be started over fences in the next few weeks. She is a fairly petite mare; 15.3-ish and still growing. (Dam grew until she was 7). Very sweet mare, wants to please...not a mean bone in her body.
PT me if you are interested.

Riderless horses in San Diego, CA .
I've got a couple horses that I can't get out enough, and could use some help.
You would need to be an intermediate rider. Neither horse is an outlaw-- I'd like an intermediate rider so the horses can benefit from the rider's work. Neither is a beginner's horse either.
The first horse is a big appendix with warmblood gaits and can do some nice dressage work. The second is an arab, also with big gaits.
We have LOTS of trails where I live, so you could do nothing more than trail riding if you liked, or we have arenas for more concentrated work. One horse is on a rehabilitation regime, and has a specific program of work. The other would simply appreciate some miles. I generally ride in the mornings, if you wanted/needed a buddy.
In 2 weeks, I have a third horse that's going to need some trail miles coming out of quarantine. He's a quarterhorse with quick legs.
What have I done?

Riderless horses in Portland Or....I have 4 all hunters with show experience but I only show 1 maybe 2 at a time so the others don't get the attention they should have since I have my own barn and haul in to out of state trainer when needed. While I'm at shows obviously the horses at home aren't being ridden and same for when I'm at the trainers.
If anyone is looking to get some riding time in and you have enough experience that you would feel comfortable in the show ring right now and have ridden horses like TB's I have WB's and TB's but all are very light in the mouth and take very little leg....happy mouths and no spurs for the bunch!!! None of them buck, bolt, rear or do anything dangerous or stupid, but some are more fit than others.

Horseless Rider in NY
I already posted this, but will post again. I am a physician in NY city(an ob/gyn resident), looking for a horse to ride. I take lessons in Westchester, but would love to ride as much as I can. I don't know what to call myself--advanced beginner? Low intermediate? How do you define these? Anyway, I can jump small fences and am comfortable with flat work. I have ridden some greenish horses before as well. PT me. I have a car.

East of Toronto (near Cobourg/Rice Lake), two riderless mares:
I have a wonderful small pony mare, 11:3 hh, who needs a small hotshot rider to get her going properly. Trouble is a Hackney/Shetland cross and a wee bit hot, so unfortunately is never going to be a babysitter pony, but she is soooo athletic and with the right little person on her she will jump like a stag! Finding a rider for her has been a tall order so far, but if anyone in the area has a daughter (or son) who's a confident and tight-sticking kid, I'll offer free lessons and lots of time in the barn.
Also have a gray off-the-track TB mare, 15:2, who could use more work ... she's a former broodmare so still kinda green and an interesting mix of alpha and neurotic! Definitely not a beginner ride ... need someone quiet, tactful, and confident for her. Opportunity to show down the road if someone wants to take her on ... she's gorgeous and really an *interesting* project.
Reach me (Karen) at briggs@csolve.net if interested.
