Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

10 y/o 16.2 (but narrow build) TB Mare. Quiet and nice ride. Showing Training level with me, was working on some half pass and more lateral movements with trainer. Has shown up to 3'. Was leased out by rank beginner. Shes a very loving mare but I was forced to move her about 25 mins from me and cannot afford to get out there and ride her like she should. Id love for someone to dote on her and ride her and even show her if they want. May possibly be moving back to the Mandarin/Fruit Cove area next month - NOT SURE.

      • Several Riderless Horses in Tallahassee, Florida

I haven't gone through the thread to check and see if anyone is coming to FSU this fall that would like to ride periodically, but a search didn't turn up anyone.

So, we have several horses at the barn that would love more riding time/attention. One pony, one cowpony (no cows though!), and another taller QH.

        PT me for more info

          • Time to reactivate this thread!

I just moved up to Boston for law school. Looking for a horse to ride 1-3x/week (mainly weekends). Have half-leased horses for about the last 2 years, but need a cheaper arrangement now that I'm in mounds of debt

Prefer a horse that can go into low-level eventing, but if it's just trail walking, that's still great stress-relief for me I'm also perfectly fine with just riding in lessons with your trainer.

Willing to travel an hour outside of Boston.

            • I have a couple of riderless horses in WV - 45 min W of Pittsburgh. Would love company to come ride with me and play with my horses. I have OTTBs I am reschooling for eventing and H/J. I would welcome anyone of any discipline, english, dressage, heck even western (you bring the saddle!). I currently have 2 mares who can use some saddle time (in addition to the kids' pony that never seems to get ridden enough..).

Chestnut TB mare, 16.0 h JUST started reschooling - has been o/f once to assess ability, experienced rider only. Just needs mileage. SOLD!

Bay TB mare, 16.1h, started o/f and doing some grids, lovely and elegant, currently ridden by my 10 yo daughter but needs more miles.

Email for more info JPizzurro at verizon dot net

Edited to note that I have sold the chestnut mare, but the bay mare still needs more saddle time than daughter and I can give her. We have an indoor arena for inclement weather, come play with us!!

They're not really riderless, but there's only one of me and my sister is losing interest...

I am looking for someone to ride with during the daytime (I go into work about 3 p.m.). I have a 8-year-old QH mare that needs a pretty experienced rider - I'm teaching her that she doesn't need to buck because I'm not going to grab her in the mouth or jab her sides.

The other is my baby. He's a 17-year-old TB (not an OTTB) who can be a speed demon one day not budge the next. He really makes his riders prove their experience, and then goes nicely - with lots of leg!

I don't want to ride alone, and I'd love to have some company on either horse. No $ exchanged, no barn work required (but, hey, if you care to help muck...). As my screen name indicates, the horses are located at my home. No real arena, but a grassy area behind the barn to ride in. Riding area, including barn, is fenced.

                  Send me a PT!

Hey everyone! I'm still horseless and posted several about myself on Off Course and H/J....but I'll add on here again...

Hey everyone! Now that I'm finally settled into my college routine, I'm despertly seeking something(s?) to ride! I haven't ridden in about 2 months, so I'm a little bit rusty but this whole not riding deal is driving me insane! When I am in practice, I have a soft, balenced seat and good hands. I've ridden everything from crazy OTTB's to non-crazy OTTB's to Warmbloods to large ponies...I'm not picky at all! I've got lots of experience with greenies. I'm very flexible about how I ride and I'll ride whichever way you'd like me to. I'm about 5'7 and 150-145 lbs, I'm 19 years old and have a car. I'd like to stay within an hour driving distance just because I do go to school and work. Several people can vouch for my abilities! Feel free to post here, PM me or e-mail me at tattereddaydream@hotmail.com

Thanks so much, I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone.

I'm a college student with 12 years of show/training experience. I have ridden many young ones and really enjoy the challenge of training. Most of my experience is in the QH world - all events, but I do have some training in hunters. My natural talent lies in training for HUS or working with young horses.

I am a junior in high school and I will have my license by January. I would love to ride anything I can get my hands on.. I have had experience with greenies BUT I would love even more experience; there's always more for me to learn! Even if you need your trained horse ridden a little more often I would be more than happy to do that. Also, I do a pretty good job cleaning horses up, if you don't have enough time to spend making them look their best.
PT me if it sounds like we could work something out!

                                  • Riderless horse in Dalton GA,

Here is a deal beyond belief. Daisy is a 13 yr old. QH/Morgan, about 15.2 hh palomino. She is as kind as can be but sadly has been off for a year now. We started riding her again on our farm and she is rusty but trusty. Daisy has thousands of dollars into training, goes english and western. Daisy lives in the horsey district of Dalton, she has a brand new 2 stall barn which has never been occupied. It has a large tack room, a hay loft full of super hay. It has a run in also. There is water and power right at the door, the barn is totally INSULATED including the stalls, they have over head fans inside and out. There is a wooden paddock, there is five acres of pasture wooden and vinyl fenced. Freshly seeded, a small creek and lovely trees for shade. What Daisy needs is this, someone who wants to ride and care for her. You can bring your own horse to keep her company. There is no charge for this. You will be doing Daisy a favor. She will be ridden and cared for while you can keep your own horse with her. Daisy has no vices of any sort and gets along with other horses. She is a super easy keeper. The only thing her owner wants is to be able to ride her from time to time. She has time every few months maybe. Owner is a 14 year old girl who really does not want to sell Daisy. Currently, Daisy is with me in order to be ridden and have company but they miss her at there farm. 5 minutes from town. Lets find Daisy a people ok. PT me
Our horses are not seen as the old and disabled they may have become, but rather as the mighty steeds they once believed themselves to be.

I have two fairly green but well-behaved show horses that could use some extra riding DURING THE WEEK. Must have working knowledge of basic flatwork and not be heavy-handed (i.e., if you don't steer from your legs predominantly, these aren't the horses for you). Possibility to show for the right person. If interested, please PT me.

My 6 year old will be showing her next spring in pre short. We have been riding her once or twice a week. But would love for someone to "really" ride her, jump her, show her, have FUN on her, she is not complicated at all. PT me if you are interested, she is at our private farm outside of Philomont Va.
