Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

What does that mean? I know I don't like the implication!

Hmm. I'm not stepping in on one side or the other, but does everyone jumping on this bandwagon really want their comments sent to a well respected and influential judge and horsewoman? You're all welcome to your opinions, but some of you may want to review your comments if that is the the original poster's intention. Just a friendly suggestion, as I've never seen a thread get quite so intense about a particular public figure. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>This is the statement that bothers me. Cboylen. • I have finally come out of long-time lurkerdom to post a respose to this. I cannot understand how Patey has not stepped in to fix this problem with their vendor. To me the ultimate responsibility for this product lies with Patey. The OP has been put through enough of a hassell between wating seven months for this product and now recieving an product that does not fit correctly that Patey should be correcting this problem.

I purchased a bridle from Millers Harness in NYC several years ago. I purchased at what I thought was a KL Select bridle. Upon returning home to Virginia, I noticed that one of the buckels was broken. I called Millers (catalog) and they directed me to the store, as this was a product that the store vs. the catalog carried. I called the store and they gave me the number for the supplier, KL Select. KL Select asked that I send the bridle to them and they would replace it.

Upon receiving the bridle KL Select called me. The bridle was not a KL Select bridle it was a Crosby. Millers had tagged it incorrectly, but KL Select wanted to make it right because I believed I had purchased their product. Not only did KL Select send me a much nicer bridle then I had purchased, they sent me two nosebands as my horse has a fine head and seemed to fall inbetween sizes.

I was so impressed by the customer service at this company. I would purchse something from them in a heartbeat because I know they stand behind their product 110%.

To me it does not matter so much who said what or at this point who is at fault. Patey's name is on the product. It is their responsibility to make their customers happy.

              • That is a very good lesson in customer service. It's enough to make me a KL Select customer. In fact, I think I'll mosey over to a web tack shop and buy something right now.

I too feel like Patey holds some responsibility. It's like parenting. If a kid that isn't yours acts up you'd go to the parent about it to get them to deal w/it.

I FedExed the first six pages of this thread to Patey (never realized it would get this big!) and I got notification via email that Patey received it yesterday. You'd think they'd be on the phone with me. Nope. Haven't heard boo. I think it might be a cultural thing. When I initially spoke with him, he just really didn't feel like it was in his court and he was so nice, I didn't want to tell him it actually was partially in his court. At one point he said, "I feel as though I should apologize, even though I shouldn't."

This is one of those things that upsets me so much that I'm tired from it.

I think we all need to sit tight on this thread until I get in front of her and give her a chance to redeem herself (even though I'll never forget how she treated me and belittled me) by redeeming my $640 to me. I plan on seeing her next week.

I would second the suggestion to have a witness when you return the helmet and be sure to get a receipt. Taking pics of the helmet before you return it would be a good idea so if for some reason she does not credit you or refund is not in cash, you have some record of the helmet you received.

I've known her for quite a long time.
As far as what circles, she's a very prominent figure in my circles, whatever those may be. In any case, she's one of the judges for the National in Wellington, as well as having judged the IHF west coast regionals earlier this year, and a very good number of other shows on a yearly basis. Last year she was one of the judges for the Ronnie Mutch Eq Classic. You don't have to sit on a horse to be well-known or respected.
As far as influential, I merely meant that she is involved in all the aspects of our sport, including involving local riders with our larger shows, such as she did with a type of clinic/tour last year at CC.

                          • Ok she is well known.
But does that give her a right to treat everyday horse loving customers in the rude manner she seems to do more often than not.
Or does she treat, others who are in her circles nicer?
I bet if "Anyplace" were someone well known this would never have happened.

Being highly involved and respected in the horse buisness doesn't give you the right to speak to someone like that. If anything, it should make one more careful with what one says, knowing that they are well known.

I wouldn't be commenting if I hadn't heard that message. It showed me that I wouldn't want to deal with that person in any way.

                              • They may not have their CC machine online at a show. At most shows, I've only received a written receipt and been charged or credited after the show is over and they've gone home. Thus, make sure you get confirmation and check your CC bill online if you can to make sure it's done ASAP and with that receipt you should have enough for a CC company to reimburse you. But maybe you didn't use a CC and the point is moot anyhow.

                                  I didn't realize she was a judge.

Doesn't change the fact she treated me poorly.

                                        • About 5 years ago I bought a Patey from her at the Middleburg Classic. THey "warmed it up" and fit it to my head there. What's the difference between this and what Anyplace originally ordered? I didn't think Patey made anything truly to order. On a side note, That helmet fits beautifully and I feel very secure in it. I finally broke down and boughta a GPA to school in and despite being the correct size, I feel like it's perched on my head and am constantly adjusting it and moving it around. I'm over $1000 into hard hats now. I can honestly tell you, I have serious concerns of whether the GPA (which is very shallow) would come off in a fall. I have no concern that my Patey would...but if they both stayed in place, i suppose the GPA woudl be safer. With that said, now that I've heard that tape, I am glad I got my Patey when I did because I WILL NEVER SEND A DOLLAR THAT WAY AGAIN. Bad customer service anywhere other than Taco Bell is not to be positively rewarded through repeat business.
