Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

So many gorgeous horses; I wish I could take one. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to get one now .

Out of curiosity, could someone PM me the name of the trainer who is, er, a little difficult? I believe he owns(ed?) Kenny Run.

And can I put in a little segue...? Finger Lakes is one of Special Horse's Secret Santa for Horse Rescues groups this year. Louise has requested money for FLTAP - see http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=278083 and more specifically:

Group Name Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program
      COTH contact name Louise
      email FLTAPVolunteer@yahoo.com
      website link http://www.fingerlakestap.org/
Paypal Address none - donation by donor's Paypal, check or credit card
Mailing Address PO Box 25043, 5757 Rt. 96, Farmington NY 14425

Donated items not requested - cash donations appreciated.

Please earmark as coming in appreciation of the work of the FLTAP Trainer's Listings – help support the Trainer’s Listing Program!

What a wonderful way to honor your Finger Lakes' Finest, and ensure the program continues.

It does not have to be done through Secret Santa - you can donate directly. But I can assure you, any amount, no matter how small, will be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Geek. Yup, with a long cold Winter coming on, when the track will be closed, and adoptions down, any donations will be greatly appreciated. As I wrote on the Secret Santa thread, the Adoption Center horses are young, and the barn is new and sturdy, so blanketing isn't usually done. Plenty of good food and deep bedding will keep the kids healthy and warm when the Winter winds are blowing.

The horses at the Center may not be the dramatic cases that some of the Rescues involved with Secret Santa deal with, but, everyone involved with FLTAP is struggling to see that our horses stay out of the stream that leads to the need for intervention.

Plus, I'd like to see the Listings Volunteers get some recognition. I'm very proud of the good work that our small group (counting me there are only seven of us) gets done. Last year, we were able to positively identify 92 horses that were placed, directly through the Trainer's Listings. I think that the number will be down somewhat this year, but, already, there are a great many Finest comfortable in their new homes, thanks to my hard working colleagues.

And, thanks to those who understand where I was coming from in my earlier post. I don't know that we can do anything different, but it just, sometimes, seems very unfair that the good guys get forgotten, in the mad rush to get horses who are at risk placed.

But how far, far better to intervene before the end of the line. Without programs like FLTAP and CANTER, so many of these horses would end up in very bad places.

I know. I came off the track, but I was lucky. I know so many of my equine colleagues did not have my opportunities.

More new listings up. Take a peek at Leroy Chop Chop . His groom was holding him outside and I walked up and said, "Hi Leroy" and this lovely horse reached out and touched me lightly on the cheek. I said, "oooh!" and his groom giggled.

I was up at the track yesterday - didn't see a lot of them, but want to put a plug in for Gerarda Moon - very sweet mare and I think would make an easy transition to someones farm. Trainer/owners cares about her horses a lot and it shows. Tomorrow our new Fingerlakes Finest comes home -(he wasn't listed yet as trainer had just decided on Thurs to find a new career for him)
He is a three year old 16+ gelding named Ziggy Mon. Dark bay/brown, four white socks and a white star, stripe and snip on his face. At the moment he is a very big, goofy baby.

                Oooh the new horses!
No Fere looks lovely, Lookn Boldn Brassy is a solid gal, Double Sec is so handsome, Harris Drive is a doll. I swear Malibu Dream could be my daughter's jumper's brother! They look sooo much alike! Except for the white on his hinds, I bet if I showed my kid the first and last pictures on his listing, she'd think he was her horse. The kid's horse is very talented BTW - level 5 & 6 jumper.

                  Small Potatoes

What a blast she is to ride (I'm the rider in the video)! I've been on a lot of thoroughbreds right off the track and she was by far the easiest one. She was quiet, balanced, and willing to please, not to mention plenty of suspension at the trot and a great canter. I know for a fact she hadn't been ridden in weeks before I got on her and she came out of the barn ready to work and without any drama. She is a very special mare.

The other two mares from the same trainer were also very good. Same thing, they hadn't been ridden in weeks-possibly longer. Regally Jen was awesome and so comfortable. I really liked her. She seemed very agile. Dance for Fashion came out a little stronger than the others because there was some commotion going on down the road. I was impressed because while she was looking a bit at first, she never spooked. She definitely settled before I was done and I feel if I had a little more time she would have settled even more.

I also want to agree that it never hurts to make an offer on a horse if you are serious about buying. I bought two from the track in Dec. 08 and was able to negotiate on both of them so good luck to anybody looking to buy and congratulations to those who already have and thank you to everyone who works hard to help these horses find new homes!

                          What a face! Those eyes....

I wasn't on the walkabout this Saturday, but I would have been swooning.

Lookin Bold n Brassy has a face that will be in my dreams tonight. I have a strong, strong hunch that this gal will be a total in-your-pocket partner.

While I was with 3Mares yesterday, we spent a great deal of time with Gerarda Moon and she is a lovely mare. She's not only pretty but very personable and sweet. She quickly figured out the peppermint pocket and, cutest thing, she alternates her mugging for mints and attention with an about face, presenting her pretty chestnut bum for scritches! She's got her people well trained: they know to respond to her position with her desired result! Other people might think she's sulking or being anti-social. NOT! So cute!

Plus, we saw her out on the grass doing a spontaneous trot and she's a very pretty mover.

Gerarda has been lovingly cared for and it's clear that she has returned that affection in spades.

For donations....has FLTAP ever registered with eBay or PayPal as an organization that can receive donations? It's possible on ebay for sellers to select organizations to receive a percentage of the sale price. Paypal also comes up with an option for payers to donate as well.

And it is almost a year (next week) since Lucky's final start at Finger Lakes. Today he rode on the road, alone, in the woods, in cold fall weather with dry leaves and branches everywhere. The only eye-batting moment came when Trudy (red-headed mare) rushed the fence at him and he decided to scoot sideways. If you buy today, by this time next year you too, could be tooling along on a lovely fall afternoon on your very own Finest.

I found out last night that I didn't catch the first part of her name. I searched the Jockey Club name book for what I thought it might be but had no luck. I'll try to catch up with her trainer and find out because it'd be nice to know her breeding. She's even nicer than she appears in her photo.

Sorry about that, me thinks I'm getting a wee bit deaf.
