Board Rules

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

  • Boarding Recommendations MD/PA

ISO boarding for a mare near Frederick, MD, or as far out as Chambersburg, Gettysburg, or Hanover, PA.
Budget is negotiable, but excellent care with attention to detail a must.

Thornbury Farm Stables in West Chester, PA!! Penny is fantastic, takes care of those horses like they are all her own, and if they were closer I would definitely have my guys with her. She helped me pull them all from various auction circuits and did QT and transport for me. I can PM you phone number but you can also look up "Thornbury Farm Stables" on facebook.

While this may be a great place, West Chester is nowhere near Frederick.

Do you have other requirements/requests? That would help narrow it down - you have so many options!

I only know of the Maryland options close-ish to Frederick, and don't know all of the $ details for the barns. I have only boarded at two of these barns, but have been to several for lessons etc., and know/know of the trainers at others so here you go:

MRK Stables in Gaithersburg (it's Damascus) is my first pick - but i'm biased because I board there. It's a smaller barn (13 stalls) with excellent care. I've been there for a year now, and i'm very happy with it - and they are constantly making improvements. The boarders that are there right now are great, and they let you bring in your own trainer, which was awesome for me.

My trainer works out of Morning Sun Stables just down the road and that's a lovely facility, too, with great people - stall board is too expensive there for me but well worth it for what you get in the facilities. I think they do have field board but i'm not aware of their availability.

Closer to Poolesville is San-Mar Stables - the woman who owns/runs it is a stickler for great horse care, so if horse care is your priority that's a great barn.

Miles ahead farm is another good one - excellent facility and people and across the street from Loch Moy.

Destination Farm is an active eventing barn, and the trainers/facilities there are lovely.

Bennett Creek Farm close to Urbana/Clarksburg is immaculate, but I bet they have a waiting list.. worth a shot to reach out - super indoor and outdoor facilities.

I also boarded at Mountain View Farm previously for like a year (Dickerson) and that barn is awesome - I definitely recommend it!

Alsikkan Farm is in Germantown and is a super dressage facility with the resident trainer there who owns/runs it.

Playland Equestrian might be worth checking out as well, they're located in Union Bridge, MD. Miles Ahead is no longer across from Loch Moy, and San Mar is closer to Potomac, MD than Frederick.
