Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are approaching rapidly and many first time spectators are not sure what to expect. That’s why Alltechfeigames.com has created a Spectators Guide to help new comers of the World Equestrian Games.

Here are some great tips and facts from the Spectators Guide:

    Leave Early
Plan your trip so that you’re at the venue well before the scheduled start of the event. Gates open at the times noted below and will close at the end of the final competition.

Opening times for the Kentucky Horse Park

    Day Date Gates Open

    Saturday 9/25 7:00 AM

    Sunday 9/26 6:00 AM

    Monday 9/27 7:00 AM

    Tuesday 9/28 7:00 AM

    Wednesday 9/29 7:00 AM

    Thursday 9/30 7:00 AM

    Friday 10/1 7:00 AM

    Saturday 10/2 7:00 AM

    Sunday 10/3 8:00 AM

    Monday 10/4 8:00 AM

    Tuesday 10/5 8:00 AM

    Wednesday 10/6 7:00 AM

    Thursday 10/7 7:30 AM

    Friday 10/8 7:30 AM

    Saturday 10/9 7:00 AM

    Sunday 10/10 7:30 AM

    Be Prepared to Walk!
There will be no shuttle system within the event, other than a limited one for spectators with disabilities. Games staff have walked the event compound several times and found that, on average, it takes approximately 10-15 minutes to reach each of the venues from the main ticket entrances. We encourage you to wear comfortable shoes that offer good support to your feet and ankles during the day so that your Games experience remains a pleasant one.

    Know your Transportation Options
A variety of transportation options are available to you. On-site parking is available at the grounds for $20 cash only, to be paid upon entry. Spectators may also pre-purchase a limited number of premium permits at www.clickandpark.com for $100, which provide close access to the security and ticketing gates as well as in-and-out privileges.

There will be limited shuttles within all parking areas to transport spectators with mobility challenges to the main ticket entrances. We are also encouraging carpools when possible to reduce the demand for parking spaces and to minimize your personal cost to park.

Many area hotels will also be a part of designated shuttle routes throughout the region. You may purchase wristbands to access these shuttles through the Games Housing Bureau, Shorts Travel. For more information about these shuttles, please visit the Parking & Transportation page on the 2010 Games website.

    How to Get Tickets
    Online: http://www.ticketmaster.com/.

Tickets are available for purchase at any Ticketmaster outlet. To find a Ticketmaster outlet near you, visit Ticketmaster

To learn more about the 49 competition sessions on the event schedule, visit the Competition page on this website.

By Phone Tickets are available for purchase by phone via Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or through the Alltech Call Center at 888-934-2010.

Venue Box Offices The box office will open on September 25 outside the spectator entry gates one hour before the first event begins. The main box office will be located near the spectator entrance near the Trade Show; four additional sites will be located in the Indoor Arena, Covered Arena, Walnut Grove area and the Campground spectator entrance. Some venues are located a considerable distance from the various box offices. Check the venue map to ensure that you plan enough time to reach your venue before the competition begins.

A “will-call” station will be available at the main ticket box office for direct ticket purchase. A third-party “will call” is not available…which means you will not be able to leave tickets at a box office for others to pick up. We recommend you forward or deliver tickets to your friends and family well ahead of time.

    Children
Children aged 12 and under will be granted free Grounds Pass admittance with an accompanying adult. However, all spectators, including children must have a valid event ticket to enter a venue to see a competition.

    Timing
Don’t miss any of the action. You’ll be allowed to enter the venue with a valid ticket from the time the venue gates open until one hour after the final competition of the day. Keep in mind that for certain events, spectators who arrive late will be required to wait for a pause in the competition before taking their seats.

Be ready to spend the day at the venue. There is no re-entry once you pass through the ticket and security gates.

Know what is and is not allowed on the venue. Check the restricted items on page 9 before you leave your accommodations.

Leave your pets at home. Dogs or other pets will not be allowed on the grounds of the park during the 2010 Games. For those who simply cannot travel without their furry friends, there are pet daycare options throughout Lexington. Please plan in advance for these arrangements.

Do not bring food or beverages. A wide variety of concessions will be available at the park. Food and drink will not be allowed through the security gates.

Currency. All major credit cards will be accepted by most vendors on the park. ATM’s will be located throughout the venue for access to cash ($US). There will be no foreign currency exchange on the grounds.

    · Alcoholic Beverages

    Animals/Pets (exception, ADA service dogs)

    Smoking Areas

Apparently there has been a "no dog" policy for a little bit a the horse park (though at pony finals this week it didn't seem so).

I was at weg training & was told there are some horses coming from Europe that have a specific disease (honestly can't remember) that have special stabling. These horses are allowed to compete but the disease is transmitted I believe through ticks which is why dogs haven't been allowed on the property.

I had a long chat with one of the phone information people.

There will be Papa John's pizza at the Horse Park. There will also be free food and bourbon samples in the Kentucky experience. Since Normandy has got the 2014 Games, they will have an exhibit, which she says will have free samples of French cheese and wine and bread.

I wonder why and if Yum brands (KFC and Long John Silvers and Pizza Hut) won't be there. They are a Kentucky based food company. I forgot to ask if they were.

She also says that there will be no "identification" for disabled people, so the shuttle services inside the park will run on the honor system. And anyone with a handicapped parking plate or parking badge can use handicapped parking and the shuttle from parking.

The horse disease in question is piroplasmosis.

I would guess that if Papa John's bought in, Pizza Hut would be out.

As a former employee of Yum... yep, if PJ's is in, then PH (and Yum) is out.

And Yum is the parent company for KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long Johns Silver and A&W. Might have been a better choice with all the options.

Papa John's is a company from Indiana BUT they do a lot of sponsorship in L-ville so maybe that is why. Yum brands does the KY Derby and that is a lot of money to sponsor....maybe that is why they didn't step up or maybe Papa John's was faster.

Thanks for the disease name....I totally forgot and couldn't even think of what it began with!

Well knowing people everyone will attempt to use this. I no longer have a handicap pass (expired & most of the time I can walk normally) but I am hoping if I get there early I can park decently in the volunteer lot. Hoping is the key word!!

I do know a family friend who spoke with the guy that is organizing the parking situation. He said that the guy has organized parking for the Super Bowls and Olympics. That he has men all over Iron Works Pike to alert him to any back ups longer than I thought he said 5 minutes and that will tell him to open another lot. He has several lots on Iron Works to open and close if needed. Though the man said that the furthest parking lot is the last option and he is attempting not to use that one since it is far away. Lets cross our fingers!

Actually, Papa John's HQ is in Louisville. And I think the reason Yum didn't step up is because they sponsor the Derby and our new KFC Yum stadium downtown.
