  • New pony - Need help with a name!

Okay, I usually don't ask for help for names, even from friends and family, but for whatever reason I'm having a hard time picking out a name for my new girl! Perhaps because I've never had a pony like this one .

Some info: 12 yr old grey large pony, unknown breeding but thinking QH/Connemara cross. It looks like she used to be dappled, since her mane and tail are still dark grey and she has some dappling on her knees/hocks and an interesting dark gray dun stripe. Hard to tell with her winter coat, but I don't think she has any other markings. She has big eyes and a slightly roman nose. She is adorably sweet, follows you around and wants to be with people. Very quiet, but alert. She's going to be something special, for too many personal reasons to name! She'll be used for English riding, pleasure and trails, no showing.

I don't like simple names that are just "things" like Star or Moon. As an example, my previous ponies were named Desdemona, or Desi for short and Kitsune (fox in Japanese) or Kit/Kitten for short. We are trying to think of names that mean something in another language, but sound pretty on their own. I have a name in mind, but not 100% sure about it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
During the trial ride - pointing at her little radar ears!

I named my Hackney Pony Naraku Kouma - roughly Japanese for Pony from Hell... cuz he was

The Kouma - pronounced koy-uma - means pony, actually "little horse"

Shinobi is Japanese for "silver", maybe more appropriate for your gray.

First: Will you solemnly commit to coming back and sharing what name you picked? All these naming threads where people pour their heart and soul into coming up with names, and then the OP disappears and you never hear what they picked LOL

Okay, thought you guys could use an update...I'm between three names at the moment:
Amira (princess in arabic/hebrew) with Mira for short (wonderful in Latin or ocean in Sanskrit)
                      Renata (reborn in Portguese/Italian/Spanish)
                      Freya (Norse goddess, noble lady)

And who knows what else will be in the running . I'll be spending more time with her this weekend so hopefully something will stick at that point.
