Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. Youre responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading itdetails of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While its understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and its related to a horse for sale, regardless of whos selling it, it doesnt belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be bumped excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary youd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a users membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Oh, please don't think for a minute I have tossed anything around..... I don't ever make claims I have not intended to stand fully behind... and maybe you should know a little better, it is slander. To make a statement that is untrue to deformate my character is slander.......

saying of something false and damaging: the act or offense of saying something false or malicious that damages somebody's reputation

To say. Not to WRITE. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that speaking and writing are two different things. So you are taking your "definition right off the net" completely and totally out of context. But I'm glad that you bothered to do a little bit of research, even if it was just googling one word. You get a gold star.

And maybe you forgot, but you DID threaten litigation earlier in this thread. You said that this is "lawsuit material." Sounds like a threat to me (and an obviously empty one at that, since if you did sue the action would bring frivolity to new heights).

      Cheers!

I can't believe I'm even wasting the time to say something

But all that was asked was for opinions, experiences, etc, for this show. Anyplace offered up what she had heard and what she had experienced, which was all the OP wanted. Now threats of law suits are being tossed around??

Ain't America great? Someone can offer up a negative opinion, then be hauled off to court because of it...good grief.

When my lawyer files the demand letter, yes, it will be labeled as "libel", however the bottom line layman's term is - in fact, slander. That's why I have a red hot lawyer, I don't have to be red hot at everything I do, just most things

If in fact Anyplace had posted, "I think.........." I would have had no issues. However, that is not what she did, she said "They (do)......"

That's where I have heart burn.

I, too, have resisted posting on this thread because of the sheer ridiculousness of it.....but now reading that people are actually going to tie up the court system over something this [I]trivial[I] is what gets me. Save the court system for people who really need it.....if you hadn't gotten so wound up over this in the first place you would have done yourself a favor. I would still have tried out the show after reading the opinions of the other people. Most of us can make up our own minds after reading other people's thoughts....however, after reading the backlash - now that would have changed my mind about going to the show. I really really hope that people let this go and don't bog down our already overworked legal system with this nonsense

I know, I know, threaten me again by not coming to my shows, I can't take it anymore!!!! Please, don't tell me your NOT coming to my shows, whatever you do, don't tell me that, I will have to jump off a bridge or something horrible~!

In reality, again, I don't care, I am not in this for anything more than my own pleasure. If you agree with these harrassing individuals, do us all a favor, don't come. Don't debate about it, don't lose sleep over it, don't call your psychic friends network about it, just don't come. There, I have made it very easy for you, you can live guilt free forever. I think you should thank me.

What's so funny is that secret interlude has just given herself WAY worse advertising that Anyplace Farm ever could by just giving an opinion on an internet bb. Wonder if she should sue herself as well? All I can say is WOW

So true! And even if secret interlude really doesn't care about the money and is hosting the shows just for fun, one would still think that she would stay away advertising herself in this negative manner... even if money's not the issue, wouldn't her fun go down the tubes if her shows didn't run due to lack of entries???

Anyplace did not delete her comments. They are in the first sentence of the 2nd post of this thread. IMHO, secret interlude should have come forward, asked specifics about what Anyplace "heard" and either defended her actions or pledged to make it better. Hey, we're all human and we all make mistakes. And we also "hear" things that aren't true. So, either way, I would have respected MUCH more.

Instead, secret interlude came out guns blazing and also, IMHO, began threatening Anyplace.

FWIW, I go to well-run shows and some not-so-well-run shows. Sometimes, the latter are just more convenient and frankly, it isn't so bad when you're simply looking for a schooling opportunity for a greenie. As long as it isn't dangerous, I don't expect perfection for $10/class. So, I didn't REALLY form an opinion of the Hollow Oak shows based on anything I'd read UNTIL secret interlude began posting. I'd really hate to be standing by her rail and make a comment about something, as an aside, and someone overhear and then suddenly I'm the subject of a frivilous lawsuit. I mean really, I just want to go have fun with my kids and ponies for a day...I don't need to get mixed up in the drama.

                          Beautiful day

The weather was gorgeous, the footing was good, water was plentiful and the barbecue was tasty. We went with two horses and two riders, intent on showing in both hunters as well as jumper classes.

No small show can guarantee enough competitors to fill the more advanced divisions and this one tried very hard to do so.

The downside of that was that the horses wouldn't jump around and a rider quite obviously didn't want to spend the afternoon filling classes. Still the effort was made.

Coming from "hunterland" and my only experiences with jumper shows being watching the Grand Prix at Upperville, Devon, Penn National and WIHS prior to taking our Maddie to the last two Foxchase Farm shows, I'm still trying to figure out how jumpers are run. I think that numbering the jumps is a big help, how anyone can figure out which way they're supposed to go is beyond me! Kudos to those who make the attempt. The judge was wonderful in helping the riders get the course down in their mind.

By working very hard to accomodate those who did come to show, there was a bit of miscommunication, not unheard of, but it was a bit disconcerting to find that one of "my" riders rode in an entire jumper division (was champion, happy day!) only do find that the division she had thought she was riding had been cancelled and that she'd done the classes "my" other rider had entered on the same horse. It may have been announced and we missed it, since all jaws dropped as everyone stared at a child being dragged on his back by the arm towards a van while his mother screamed she'd take a strap to him.

I was less than pleased with both of my horses, but knew by taking the two goobers together I was signing up for a lot of fidgiting and misbehavior. Some day I'll learn to take them one at a time and have some peace!

We were happy, however, that although Maddie missed out on showing jumpers at 3', she was allowed to do an unjudged round and she was marvellous. I also was kindly refunded the entry fees for the division we missed so there were no ill feelings at all.

For anyone thinking about attending one of these shows, it's in a good location and being across the drive from the Nokesville Park ring and trails gave us an excellent place to school without subjecting the rest of the competitors to my horses antics. We were very glad also to find that, when the bottled water we brought along ran out, there was still a good supply available at the concession table as anyone riding Maddie will tell you it's thirsty work!

I'd advise anyone with a horse that has dog issues to work that out before going, as the neighbor's dog is in close juxtaposition to the Hollow Oak ring and has a tendance to rush the fence snarling and barking. Fortunately, it's enclosure is sturdy and the picket fence is much better than chain link or some other type might be visually.

It was a gorgeous day to be out with horses and I was pleased to find we were able to make the drive from our barn in under 40 minutes and avoided the I95 weekend summer traffic night mare, one of the criteria on my list when we looked for a place to show this weekend.
"If you would have only one day to live, you should spend at least half of it in the saddle."

Oh my!!! I don't know if there are any VHSA Associate rules regarding such behavior but I hope this was reported to show management because I do know there are laws to protect children! The scary part, in my opinion, is this was done in front of lots of folks....poor child..what happens when there's no one around?

Since you've said yourself that you have no financial interest in your horse shows, right here on this very thread, you have no basis for a lawsuit.
