Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Yep it's us liberals always letting those child rapists go. It could never be that there isn't enough evidence or someone is proven to be lying so no one can convist them because the judge is upholding our "american" system that says we won't, no I'm sorry CAN'T, convict if there is resonable doubt. Nope never. Us liberals just want those perverts on the street.
do a search on some of the rulings in MA., and VT. I am not kidding about this. You need to live in New England to believe this. They usually don't take the level three's off of the street until they kill someone. AND, there ARE liberal judges appointed by Democrats.

I think the point is that, while this SEEMS to be pretty conclusive, it is NOT UNKNOWN (understatement) for perfectly innocent people to be "framed"- accused (and even charged) with sex crimes.

Anyone who has been close to one of these false accusations, and has seen the damage it can do, tends to be a bit more cautious about jumping to conclusions.

I completely agree with this. However, having been 'close' to situations like this, when these accusations are claimed to be 'false' and true sexual predator's are allowed to run their 'normal' life, the results are often far more damaging.

Well, clearly, people around him were nice enough to ignore rumors and gave him the benefit of the doubt in the past and I'm sure some of those very people are going to have to, sadly, stare at nude pictures of their children, exhibited in court.

While there are always two sides to every story, there is also always some truth to every rumor. This kinda crap -- you just can't make up.

Granted, I haven't actually seen them, but it seems to me that with all those pictures police found on his computer(s) - and yes, I suppose someone else COULD have put them there to frame him - that at the very least he is guilty of being a slime and someone I would want to stay away from.

There are also conservative judges appointed by Republicans...I'm not sure I see your point. Is it your position that it is the Democrats are to blame for the trainer molesting his students? That's kind of an awkward sideways leap don't you think? And why oh why do you feel the need to drag liberal-bashing politics into a discussion about an as-yet-to-be-convicted criminal?

My Question to those nice people : Would you ignore rumors of a teacher in your child’s school like these? If your child was sitting in a classroom at 13 years old and his/her Math teacher was rumored over several years to be a person who slept around with his/her students., would they have allowed their child to remain in that class? What about their Swim coach or a football coach???? Parents will rip their kids out of a classroom faster then the speed of light based on such rumors.. But it never seems to send up signals when it's their kids riding Instructor / Trainer. Now I know I am setting myself up for some instant Flames, but could it be our sport attracts wealthy people who just assume that people who are taking care of their children would never dream of hurting their child simply because an employee wouldn't want to jeopardize their big paychecks.. or that they may be rich and powerful and no one would ever mess with their kids. Is there a degree of arrogance among the newly rich and powerful that leads them to believe their children are insulated from such things simple because they are who they are? Just a question not an indictment of those who are economically and socially blessed.

I don't think this guy was at that level as a trainer....he was living in a trailer or with his mother

SNL, you just have to live in New England to appreciate what goes on here. There is a guy in VT who did no jail time for molesting a kid for years...because the judge wanted him to get help instead. They just picked up a level three in the next town over from me....downloading porn at the library and satring at kids from a scool. Another couple of level three's murdered young vulnerable women...one was using a bathroom at a Burger King, the other one broke down. I am serious, you need to do some searches...just plug in molester and VT and see what comes up.
I am not going to argue the politics, I am just telling you what happens here, and it is documented.

Personally, and I'm sure some people will be disgusted with me, but I think if they did castrate them, it would deter anyone thinking about molesting a child, and greatly decrease the number of repeat-offenders.

He was living with his mother, which, at his age, is worse than living in a trailer. Hey, don't be knockin' the double-wide dwellers. Why, even the Governor of Arkansas (apres Clinton) lived in one while they restored the mansion. That damn thing was stylin'.

Actually, this has been tried and proven ineffective as a deterant. Kind of like the death penalty hasn't worked out as a deterant to murder.

A quote from President Andrew Shepherd:

America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say 'You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.' You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the "land of the free."

"Most people get involved in horses because it's a good, clean, wholesome sport," Larrivee said.

Somebody clearly lives under a rock!

The horse world attracts plenty of criminals and weirdos. When I was a teenager, I boarded at a barn that took in a trainer charged with statutory rape. He'd lost his own farm (had to sell b/c clients fled in droves), so the BO's took him in, along with a co-conspirator, half a dozen horses, and the two or three clients that stood by him.

Needless to say, my own trainer was APPALLED and protested loudly. Didn't change anything; the BO's believed in the perp's innocence, despite the fact that there was video evidence! So an accused rapist was allowed free access to the barn and its droves of young girls while he awaited trial.

My trainer and all the parents made sure that none of us kids were ever at the barn alone, and I'm fairly certain my trainer had a "come to Jesus" meeting with the perp...knowing her, it was probably along the lines of, "You so much as look at my girls, and I will castrate you myself." I remember hiding in a stall whenever the perp walked through our section of the barn. It was a dicey month or two before the guy was convicted and sent to jail for 8-12 years. I'm pretty sure he did all of it, since his victim's parents showed up for every single parole hearing.

But, yeah...whoever thinks riding is a "good, clean, and wholesome sport" obviously lives on another planet.
