Can anyone find the post's from a couple years ago (tops) where he actually came on and defended himself after a few comments were made about him. I can't seem to find it......

Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.
Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

H/J Trainer with Child Porn AND Child Rape Charges

I've known 'about' him for a while....it's a small community....and disgusting.
It's really quite a shame how blindly people look up to trainer's at times. But, what gets me is that he was kicked out of another barn (I guess he cried 'barn politics') for 'suspicious' behavior, it was pretty much common knowledge among the horse community in MA/RI, and mother's CONTINUED to send their children off with him. Although I'm not a Mom, there's no way I would ever send my little girl's off with someone accused of sexual harrassment/rape. It's just not something you even chance. I'd rather just send my horse 20min down the road and endorse that already-convicted criminal.

I love the internet, info on hard drives(no pun intended, REDLINE), Dateline, DNA tests and all the things that only catch these guys. It's too bad it won't stop them. Haven't seen too many women crossing these lines in the sand. Guess if you have a kid, statistically the only safe way to go is with a female trainer.

Do you think they could have been lost in the move to the new board?
And SGray - I really hope there is a rule, considering such a large part of the sport is dedicated to the developement of our young rider's. Not to mention horse barn's and shows are swimming with kid's and it's just plain disgusting.Last edited by goodmorning; Mar. 29, 2007, 02:39 PM.

I guess I cannot comprehend HOW this trainer stayed in business teaching children if the community has known about him for awhile as you say. The Horse world is a very small place and I just don't get it, are parents really this oblivious or do they just send little Suzy or Johnny off with a warning" It's Ok to ride with him so you can get blue ribbons, but don't let yourself get caught alone with him in the tack room" The more I hear about the pedifiles, the horsekillers, the greedy double dipping trainers who rip clients for thousands of dollars on sales , the old men luring young students ( of both sexes) into affairs, and all sorts of dubious charactors who still manage to make a living in our sport despite thier well known flaws the more I wanna run. Was all this crap really going on in the 60's, was I just to young to notice? Was the honor and integrity I associated with this sport just a youthful fantasy??Originally posted by barnbabe718 View PostIt's true; the majority of the MA/RI community has known about him for awhile...
As for the earlier posts, he posted under the name JakeJumper. I assume that he requested the posts to be deleted because if you go to his profile, you see that he made two posts, neither of which you can read.

Quote from the article: He was only 20 at the time, she was 16. It's not like he was 32 at the time," said attorney Ed Kelly.
Oh, dear! Are you kidding?? Children cannot defend themselves....it's still a crime. That's the law.
Someone suggested on the "feed your departed horse to the lions/tigers at the zoo" thread that it would be a suitable end for a pedofile...Who rides the tiger cannot dismount

I think that is part of the point in talking to children (or anyone for that matter), is that you CANNOT tell if someone is a "good" person or a "bad" person simply by the way they LOOK. There are some convicted mass murderers out there who are "good" looking and some "scary" looking individuals who wouldn't hurt a fly and would bend over backwards to help someone. We need to teach people to take words and actions into account more than looks and most importantly to THINK for themselves. Just my thoughts . . .Originally posted by hunterjumpereqrider62 View Postyea i dont think i could picture dropping off a child with a guy that looks like that.

By Michael Levenson and April Simpson, Globe Staff | March 29, 2007
BERKLEY -- With his home-grown business, Silver Falcon Stable, and his dark-brown thoroughbred named Dreamer, Joseph M. Silva became a popular figure in Southeastern Massachusetts. For a decade, he taught horseback riding to anyone who wanted to master the art of show jumping or just learn to handle the reins.
But police say he also used his knowledge and popularity to win the trust of teenage girls and then photographed them naked and molested them. Silva, 32, was arrested yesterday at his home in Swansea and charged with four counts of statutory rape of a child, as well as possession of child pornography and posing a child in the nude.
Police said Silva's victims included a girl whom he allegedly abused in Berkley between June 2002, when she was 13, and October 2004, when she was 16, and a girl under the age of 16, whom he allegedly abused in Swansea in 1996. Police said they had identified two other victims, as well, and believe there are more who have yet to come forward. One girl has identified herself in a cache of explicit images found on Silva's computer, police said.
In a search of just one of Silva's 10 computer hard drives, police found 70,000 images, including 265 images of children from Morse Brook Equestrian Center in North Attleborough, Haskins Farm in Berkley, and Holloway Brook Farm in Lakeville. In 86 images, the children were unclothed, according to prosecutors. It was not clear where the nude photographs were taken and if they included images of children from all three farms.
Silva pleaded not guilty in Fall River District Court yesterday and was held on $100,000 bail and ordered to stay away from his alleged victims.
Silva's lawyer, Edward Kelly, called the charges "completely false allegations."
Within the close-knit equestrian world in Southeastern Massachusetts, there was shock, dismay, and questions about what, if any, signs had been missed.
"I'm just devastated," said Randy Larrivee, who owns a tack shop in Rehoboth and has known Silva for 20 years. "I'm licking my wounds and thinking what did I miss? I'm a family man, and I'm sitting here wondering what I could have done differently."
Larrivee said he was troubled because rumors of sexual activity between Silva and his students had swirled through the equestrian community for years. Then in October 2004, the staff at Haskins Farm, where Silva had worked as an instructor for 2 1/2 years, heard rumors that he engaged in child pornography and rape, said Ann Haskins, the co-owner. Haskins said Silva was immediately fired.
Later, Silva landed a job at Holloway Brook, where the website listed him as the show manager. It was unclear whether the staff there checked Silva's background or references before hiring him.
A lot of riders at Haskins were relieved that Silva had left, but some students followed him to Holloway Brook, said Cheryl Lane-Caron, an instructor at Haskins.
A property manager at Holloway Brook, who was holding the reins of an ebony thoroughbred yesterday, said that at his farm, Silva was known as a polite and courteous trainer.
"He's one of the best in my eyes," said the manager, a Lakeville resident who declined to give his name. "I've never seen anything out of him that compares to any of this. He's been doing this for a long time and has a large following. He trains little kids, and the parents have no problem with him."
Tom Haskins, Ann's husband and co-owner of Haskins Farm, said Silva had been living recently in a trailer at Holloway Brook. Silva ran his own business, Silver Falcon Stable, and worked by contract at Holloway Brook and Haskins, Lane-Caron said.
Attempts to reach Morse Brook yesterday were unsuccessful. Silva is not married, and there was no answer at his home phone yesterday.
Larrivee said the charges against Silva fly in the face of the kindness Larrivee has come to know at horse shows and farms across Southeastern Massachusetts.
"Most people get involved in horses because it's a good, clean, wholesome sport," Larrivee said.Humans don’t mind duress, in fact they thrive on it. What they mind is not feeling necessary. –Sebastian Junger

It's strange...there were people strongly defending him on some local boards....then there are people coming out here who "knew" things and think it's true.
If I even SUSPECTED the guy would be doing such things I would not have him anywhere near my business or students. So which is it? Do people look the other way?
Looks to me like the photo's they found will tell the story....how can he be defended now? The ex-girlfriend may have saved a lot of future kids from this pig....but she was being looked as as just wanting revenge. hmmmmmHumans don’t mind duress, in fact they thrive on it. Not necessarily....maybe your daughter(s) is/are immune in a sexual way with a female trainer. BUT, I would like to posit that there is the possibility of emotional abuse/bullying that can go on....IM'ing your daughter at home, calling her on her cell phone, playing students off of one another, alienating the girls from their parents (espec those that are divorced), manipulation and mind games, taking them on trips to out of state horse shows....kinda creepy if you think about it.Originally posted by BridalBridle View PostHaven't seen too many women crossing these lines in the sand. And we allow it because it is a female.
