Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

If the prior poster's reference doesn't work you might want to check out this site. I've used this before several times with great results."My treasures do not sparkle or glitter, they shine in the sunlight and nicker to me in the night"

What is it most important that you be near? I am in Southern Pines and I have stalls That is 20+ minutes from Raeford.
There is a Western barn with a top trainer and good facilities located 20+ minutes on the other side of Raeford, in Parkton, NC. That barn is very close to I 95, if you want to stay near there."He lives in a cocoon of solipsism"

Actually I'm planning to take one to the Horse Park that week to the A show that Andrew Ellis is hosting. I've got to get him measured and at this point not planning on showing him so I don't want to spend $165 for a stall for one or at most two nights. Thanks for the help!"ronnie was the gifted one, victor was the brilliant intellect, and i [GM], well, i am the plodder."

I thought you had to show if you were getting one measured. Or was that an old rule, instituted to prove that the pony was sound enough to show and had not been cut so short that it was crippled... (Which is what had been happening.) [Not saying you would, of course -- this is the generic reasoning behind the rule when it was passed.]
I also cannot believe that he is charging $165 for a stall!!!! OUTRAGEOUS!~"He lives in a cocoon of solipsism"

I believe the pony has to be entered in a class but doesn't actually have to show. You can scratch after the measurement, IIRC.
I was going to suggest the horsepark but I guess that's what you're trying to avoid

has to be entered but doesn't have to show. Horse is trotted for soundness before it will be approved for a card. This one's an easy measure so not much prep at all.
Honestly I'd show this one but money is tight and I don't want to body clip him... he freezes if he's clipped even if he's blanketed so I try to let him stay fuzzy."ronnie was the gifted one, victor was the brilliant intellect, and i [GM], well, i am the plodder."

I feel compelled to respond to your claims that charging $165 for a stall for a week is "outrageous". I stand firmly behind what the Carolina Horse Park charges. I have done a comprehensive spreed sheet that compares stall fee's, entry fee's, and other charges around the country at USEF "A" competitions. I have set the stall fee's and other showing fee's as an average of 10% lower than the national average. For example the show I just managed in Houston Texas had a stall fee of $200 for the week. It was also an "A" competition, but justifies a higher fee structure because of a large distribution of jumper monies and a much costlier show to run. I would also like to let you know that the Carolina Horse Park is totally Non-Profit, and serves many more community purposes beyond the horse shows. We are working hard to invest what comes into the park right back into it, so that people like your self have a wonderful place to show in your own backyard. I would also like to let you know that our stalls are more spacious than anywhere else I have been. We have built these barns ourselves with heavy duty mats in every stall so that we reduce the shavings used by almost 40%. This helps the environment and additionally keeps your overall costs at the CHP lower. I will stake my reputation that these are the best stalls in america at any publically utilized horse park. Karen O'Connor recently said "the CHP stalls are the nicest she has seen except for the ones in Hong Kong at the Olympics". With that said I hope that if you have any questions in the future about what we charge you give me a ring, and I will be glad to schedule a tour of our facilities for you to see. I believe that we are building something wonderful here, and part of that process involves positive feedback from professionals like your self. Hopefully you will join soon at the Park for one of our upcoming events.

I do appreciate the fact that you are building/having better facilities for your horse showing clients. For us who only come in for a night or two, $165 is alot. I know this has been beaten like a dead horse, but weekend rates are something that should be greatly thought about. I know that I would horse show more often if it was an option.Originally posted by Equitalk View PostPam (Lordhelpus)

Nothing useful to add to the original question, but I am curious as to why places like CHP can't offer either a $165 for the entire show, or $35 a night like they are offering for the starter horse trial. Also, why do eventers get the option of a cheaper stall with a muck deposit, but hunters aren't offered the same?
I guess it's a moot point anyway as i'll probably never afford an A show because of the non stall fees. I just can't justify paying a hefty fee for something i'm not using.

IMO - most places will do daily stall rates only if they know they will have free stalls. My guess is that they know with the eventers that they will not use up all their stalls and can therefore offer the daily rate.
It would be unfair to offer a daily rate and then sell out on the weekly rate. Where does that leave the daily stall customer?
I have one show grounds that we will sell out of stalls on the weekly rate. If we have cancellations and therefore have space available we will offer a weekend rate if asked. But it is not published for the simple fact that we don't really have the space available for daily stalls.
I would tend to guess that is the same for many other venues with limited permanent stabling.

May call Andrew and see if he's willing to do a 1 night stall. Otherwise I may hold off for Aiken in January or February. This one's sticking 15.3 1/2 right now with long feet so no major concerns"ronnie was the gifted one, victor was the brilliant intellect, and i [GM], well, i am the plodder."

Hi guys,
I wish we could do day or weekend stalls during our "a" shows. Due to the prize money requirement and the need to hire adequate staff and equipment force us to stand firm on this pricing for our "a" shows. By covering our costs on the "a" shows we are able to offer many other non-usef events that are affordable like at the starter horse trial or thanksgiving weekend classic. In fact the $1000 non recognized hunter classic has an entry fee of only $75 and a very low weekend stall rate over thanksgiving weekend. So unfortunately some people just may not be able to afford to show at our "a" shows, but hopefully you will find on our schedule a wide variety of affordable and interesting events. I wish I had a better answer, but stall fee structure is an industry wide problem. The best way to fight it is to get involved with USHJA and participate in governance issues like money requirements at usef "a" shows. I guess my other main point here is I think it is very tacky for a local professional to bad mouth me and the CHP, when I found out her goal was to attract layover business at her farm and take it away from a non profit. I think that's shady. If you want business, then stand up and build it on your own without bad mouthing someone elses venture behind the curtain of a web site. I just don't understand why some people don't see the benefit of having a local facility in your own back yard that offers a wide variety of equine activities.

What is the schedule for the Classic? It looks like fun and there is a lot of local interest.*****

Are you still looking for stabling? If so pm me.
Honestly, I use to live in SP and right down the street from the horse park.Having moved to florida I miss that area all together. Between having the horse park, harness track and Raleigh so close, I think we only really "traveled" to go to some championships. I moved to fl and would take SP over wellington anyday (no offense wellington is nice too..). We certainly do appreciate all the hard work that has gone into building the park but for some of us on a tighter budget we have to find other ways to still participate!It\'s not the color of the ribbon that counts, but the color of the ride.
Oh My!

Andrew,
I think that your prices are right in line with A show prices and not unreasonable but I just can't afford to pay that to stay there for a few hours. Everyone that I've heard speak of the CHP has been extremely complimentary towards the facility. Always that it is just beautiful. You're not quite in my backyard but I suppose a 5-6 hour trip isn't too bad... Aiken is 4!
NorthStar is a pretty place but 45 minutes away from Horse Park and on the wrong side of town. Would rather be west of the horse park since that's where I'm coming from."ronnie was the gifted one, victor was the brilliant intellect, and i [GM], well, i am the plodder."
