Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

I bought an almost new Beval Butet from Danforth. She was quick to respond to all my inquiries and sent the saddle right away. Everything went smoothly and the saddle has been a little slice of heaven. I do not dispute that others of you have had trouble but I wanted to speak up to say that I had a very good experience.

I found a friend of mine a saddle on her website. He contacted her about the saddle, and she sent it to him paid for the shipping, and he got it in a couple days. She was willing to work a trade on his saddle for that one too.

Anyway, saddle didn't work out and she paid for the shipping back and now is selling his saddle to one of her customers who are looking for one without any commission.

She is finding his customers saddles, and he seems overall highly impressed with her.

Sad to hear it wasn't the same for everyone.

Anyone know how long it should take to get a refund from her?
Have you sent anything back and if so, when did she issue you a credit?
Saddles were returned and she received them Monday AM.
I haven't heard back from 2 emails and a phone message I left for her....

As I said, it took weeks, i'm trying to recall. At first she told me to call AMEX and open a chargeback case, that it would be easier than her processing a refund. That took a week for them to get back to me and say in fact I did owe her the money, several calls to AMEX later, I realized that was not going to work, so contacted her again and demanded a refund asap. I got one but probably at least 4-5 days after I called her telling her that AMEX was not going to process a refund unless she did it.

So this is where she's tough to work with. I'd keep on her. I would suggest if she hasn't responded by Friday, then you'l have to get tough.

Sent her several FB messages about selling my saddles, stopped responding, so I sent them to iselltack.com instead.

I bought a Devoucoux from her last summer. It came exactly as described and I love it! It only took about a week from first contact to receiving my saddle.

However, I will say, once she received the money (via paypal) she was extremely hard to communicate with to get a tracking number on the saddle. I pestered her enough and threatened to dispute the paypal charge and promptly got my tracking number!

I think what she is trying to do is great however I think she lacks good business sense and should probably have someone help her with that. I don't think she has bad intentions...just distracted...

Got my refund from her. I think maybe she is just so busy that she cannot keep up with everything. Her saddles are nice....

                      Very Impressed - Update

Update - we got a very nice saddle from Danforth to try. It did not work. I sent it back to her and received the credit back on my credit card the next day. She was an absolute pleasure to deal with and great with communication at all times.

I think she has good intentions, so hopefully even this thread has helped her understand where she needs to improve. Glad things went well for you.

Personally, I've always preferred Patricia of Fine Used Saddles, her prices are better and I dare you to find just one bad review about her

I would NOT recommend Danforth Fine Use Saddles, more than questionable business ethics is all I will say.

I also do not recommend Danforth Fine Used Saddles. Although we did receive a beautiful saddle, it was the wrong size. After many calls and emails, we were told we could send it back for a full refund. It is now 3 months later, and after many more calls and emails we have no response, no refund, and no saddle!

I had someone contact me about my Tad Coffin that I have for sale wanting to buy it (I have my new saddle coming in 2 weeks and REALLY need the $$$). She wanted to send a certified check (alarm bells). I talked with her on the phone and there was no Nigerian accent so I said go for it. Get the check...its a Cashiers check but unsigned. I take to Bank of America and they won't honor without a signature. Talk with her, agree to send it back priority mail, she will get it signed and send back and priority.

Meanwhile I had googled her email and linked her to the owner of Darnforth Used Saddles (which made all sorts of sense). And my saddle is listed as coming soon.

Check was delivered last Thursday. I waited until Friday and emailed asking if she got it and to send me to tracking when it goes out. Nothing. Email again Monday...nothing (she knows I'm on the time crunch). Happen to go to her website and notice the coming soon is gone. I email saying do you still want it? If I still have no response I'm assuming its a no. She emails back (replying to my original email from Friday) saying the check would go out tomorrow (wends). I've now sent multiple emails asking if the check went out without any response at all.

At this point I'm giving up and just sending it to MD tack exchange if their offer is still open (had told her never mind because of this offer).

Is this typical? or did I just end up with the flakiest person out there? I would have assumed someone in the business of selling saddles would be a bit more responsible? Emails have gone unanswered and her voicemail is full? Hopefully MD tack Exchange is still willing or I am really stuck.

I bought my Tad Coffin from www.highendusedsaddles.com. AMAZING customer service! I saw two TCs just posted to the website. I called immediately and talked with the owner. I explained I was going on vacation soon, but had to try both the saddles. I was looking for the TC2s, which hardly ever come up for sale. She sent me both, and I knew right away one was too small for me. I sent that back, but was leaving for a 10 day vacation the next day, so didn't have time to try the one I thought might fit. She let me keep it the whole time and ride in it for 4 days when I came home. It worked like a dream, but who would allow that without paying an extra fee? Fantastic customer service. So easy to deal with, and I would definitely buy a saddle there again or list mine if it ever becomes necessary.
