Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

False accusations? So you'd say it's false that you injected your pony with an unknown substance, it died within minutes, and you left the show? Hmm.. interesting.

Sorry you daughter has had to go through any of this. Loosing a pony in the barn was bad enough but you are not helping her! You comments are all over the place and so many people are asking more questions now especially about drug use and you are not answering them, you are detouring the conversation to your daughter.

      This is really awful.
If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.

No that is incorrect... compare the two reports and you will understand. All your speculation is incorrect.

            • Wow. So which part did not happen?

              1. Did you inject the pony with a substance?
              2. Did the pony die minutes after the injection?
              3. Did you leave the show after the pony died?

So what of that didn't happen? You've fully admitted that you injected the pony with something. I think we all know it died. You've also admitted to leaving the show. It's not speculation, these are all things you've admitted; this is what happens when you start these threads, lawsuits, police reports, etc.

                  • And which substance. "Preventive approved by vet" is not really an answer. What preventive needed to be given to this pony right before it went into the arena, exactly?

                    • Since the mods are clearly away, trying to enjoy a Sunday evening, thinking they shut down 1 amberhill rambling thread, SURELY she won't start another on the same topic.....

Don't take the bait and comment on the poor child. She only brings her up to bait all of you into commenting to on her attempting to probably create ammo for her next lolsuit she wants to file. Smdh. We all feel for her. We all know she has talent. We don't need to mix her into this shitshow, even if its in support of her (and her alone).

First, I have never heard of a veterinary pathologist calling anyone in the middle of a necropsy.

Second, the only facts I have are those YOU are writing here! You should read what you write or figure out how to be more clear.

This is NOT internet speculation you said i thought I hit Humble's carotid referencing other posters saying you admitted to killing Humble in the police report.

I feel very sorry for you because you just don't see the damage you are doing to yourself and your business.

This has all been discussed over and over and there was no wrongdoing. I try and be forthcoming and this forum just continues to twist words. If something was awry, the temporary suspension would not have been lifted and the Hearing Committee would not have dismissed ALL charges and based on your baseless speculation I would be in jail.... I have NEVER had a positive drug test in over 10 years and I have NEVER used a USEF BANNED SUBSTANCE at a USEF sanction competition on any animals under my custody and control. I also have NEVER USED Carolina's Gold. I have signed a sworn affidavit to this effect and given that I have had a child die I would NEVER put my child NOR any other child in harms way. PERIOD. Any statements to the contrary are false and malicious.

Here is a completely free piece of "you don't have to pay your lawyers for" advice.

Regardless of who, how and why, a pony in your care, custody and control, died in a very public place and everyone knows. Even if you were/are totally innocent of any wrongdoing, your single biggest mistake, in fact, the mistake you keep making over and over again, is... wait for it........

Opening your mouth and/or posting things in your defence. You see, dear, it would be different if you understood the position of the others, or if you had a very good, really convincing, concise argument.

You don't. Every thing you utter, be it verbally or worse, on the internet in print for posterity, makes you look like a guilty fool at the least of it, boarderline crazy and paranoid most of the time.

What everyone is trying to tell you, and no one is getting through is the following.

#1. You did a bad thing. Whether you think so or not 99% of people made up their minds of that the second that pony hit the ground. No matter what you say, do, or sue, you cannot EVER change that perception. There are still people who think AT was responsible for Le S's death, God rest her soul. And she was about a million times better horseman than you could ever hope to be. You cannot fix it. Ever.

#2 Everyone thinks your daughter is a damn talented kid in spite of you. There is one very important thing every teen or pre teen daughter wants from her mother. It's for her mother to not embarrass her in public and ruin her life.

The best thing you could do for her, really, is stay very very quietly out of the spotlight. Make sure she has a couple of nice ponies to ride and a couple of friends whose parents aren't scared to hang out with you, try not to overshow the buggers because, you care about the year end stuff, if she's honest, she doesn't so much, she just loves her ponies.

For the next few years (or decades) give every horse/pony in your care the following things, only:

                              Hay
                              Oats
                              Water
                              Turn out
                              Time off
                              Love

If you do the above, keep your nose clean and your mouth shut, you will be successful.

Perhaps by the time your grandchildren are ready for their ponies, if you are quiet and well behaved, we'll all be old and no one will care.

                              AMEN.

                                • Ms. Mandarino,

I can well imagine that this whole thing has been stressful for you and your family. I still don't really know what you hope to gain from continuing on the path you are on. Honestly, in life, you can't control what others say or think of you. You can only control who you are and what you think of yourself. I guess what I'm saying is, why spend so much time and energy focusing on a NY Times article, etc. that you assert is false? Fighting in general, and lawsuits in particular, will suck the life out of a person and turn a person into an embittered, unsettled soul. What I was kind of getting at in my prior post was that, hey, people are going to think whatever they are going to think. Don't let it define who you are, and more importantly, don't let it define who you become. What matters is what you think of yourself - the rest will follow and fall into place. Rise above this and encourage your daughter to do the same. It's a healthy step to take, and part of being human.

I was called by the pathologist because of the emerging lung disease that was found and asked if Humble showed any symptoms which in hind sight he did. I did think I hit his carotid as there was NO OTHER EXPLANATION for his death until the pathologist called and explained his findings. Regardless, it did not make me feel any better about losing a pony I loved so dearly.
