Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Anyone else have trouble with David Mullinix?

  • Anyone else have trouble with David Mullinix?

    I ordered 3 photos from him in October from VSF. The (2) 8x10's I ordered arrived, but the much larger, much more expensive print I ordered never arrived.

    I have emailed him, both thru his website and thru photoreflect, as well as calling, and no answer or responses.

    I'm getting quite mad for two reasons:
    1- the large picture was of my first horse at his last 'BIG' show (he's currently flirting with retirement)
    2- it was REALLY expensive! I've never paid so much for a picture! But I figured, hey he looks great, I don't look like I'm about to die, it's his last show and he won the class!

    Anyone have a better way of contacting him? I've tried his cell phone and both emails to no avail... It's a little ridiculous, it's been 4 months, 3 months since my other pictures arrived!


    Any ideas COTHers?

    Did you order them online or in person?
    Thus do we growl that our big toes have, at this moment, been thrown up from below!

      Do a search on the eventing forum...LOTS of people have had trouble with him. Shows need to stop having his as a photographer -- yeah, good pictures, but IF they ever arrive. Most of the time they never do until you harrass him enough and then they suddenly appear...postmarked the day you finally got ahold of him to yell and scream. Funny how that works.

        roamingnome, I would check with your post office. I ordered prints from Dave in Vermont and while the 8x10 and smaller prints arrived, I had a lot of trouble getting the poster-size one. For whatever reason, when he sent it, it kept getting returned to him. We collaborated and he finally sent it to a different address (my apartment out at college instead of to my parents' house) and it got there right away.

        I've never had an issue with him and have always found him to be helpful/easily accessible...but I guess I'm one of few?

        Either way, I would check with your post office on that large print and see if there's a possibility that tubes do not get to you. I know it sounds really odd, but my parents do not receive things that are sent in tubes - they have to be sent to me.

          If he sends it via the USMail ask him to use Delivery Confirmation. It isn't the best tracking system on the planet but it will tell you if and when it got sent out, then it'll tell you when it gets to your post office and if they are trying to deliver it (left it at the po for you to pick up) or have left it (somewhere, not necessarily at your mailbox). It's maybe a dollar extra if you use the E labels you generate at home.

          There are so darn many of them that ignore you until they get the call or better yet the certified letter, and then viola, your item shows up!

            Just keep bothering him. It took multiple emails over the course of a couple of months for me to get the last picture I ordered from him.

              I would just call/email ten times a day and annoy him to death. Could it have gotten lost in the mail? Even though that wouldn't be an answer for him to not return any messages. I hope you get it all worked out.

                Do you pay by credit card? I would think disputing the charge on your CC would be motivation enough to get them to send your pictures promptly.

                  Well I'm glad it's not just me! (I guess...)

                  I'll just have to call him everyday till he finally answers!

                  To answer y'alls questions- the deliveries were shipped to my parents house, they are both retired so one of them is always home, and we get odd-shaped packages all the time (golf clubs, bocce balls, anything to keep two retired people entertained...)

                  BAC- I did pay online with a credit card, do you think even 4 months after I could still dispute a charge? Even when about half of it was received? (Meaning I received two pictures, but not the big expensive one?)

                    Whether you can dispute it depends on the terms of your credit card. Usually the window is 90 days, but check the web site for your card and look under Disputes and it will tell you. I've disputed a couple charges in the past and it was really easy to do.
                    Life would be infinitely better if pinatas suddenly appeared throughout the day.

                      Keep calling. I went to an event in September 2011, and didn't get the photos until November or December. I called multiple times and emailed multiple times. Finally got the pics. grrr.

                      I have never had a hunter/jumper or eventing photographer be that slow and be so hard to get in contact with.

                        Is he going be near you sometime soon? I don't know what VSF is, but he's at a show I'm going to tomorrow and seems to be around here (Texas) pretty frequently. If you could go to a show he's at he can't really avoid you, can he?

                          I had a thread on them in the eventing forum. I had a terrible time getting my photos from them. I called and emailed about 7-8 times over the course of 8 weeks asking for an ETA on the photos. Never heard anything. Finally get a nasty call from David's wife(?) about how I should just chill and everyone knows that it takes at LEAST 8 weeks to get photos and how dare I tell people that they were hard to get up with.

                          I finally got my pictures but I will not do business with them again.

                            It took me 10 months to get 2 photos. But after calling / faxing / emailing / texting / calling the show manager, etc. multiple-multiple times I finally got mine. Needless to say I won't order any more from him -- but the ones I did order (and finally received) are very nice.

                              On my email receipt it specifically says

                              "Thank you for your purchase! You should expect your order within 2 to 3 weeks."

                              Sooooo how long do I give it? Been 3 weeks, but I know he's been busy at shows. This thread has made me nervous about being overly patient.

                                Thought I'd update this by letting y'all know it's been over ONE YEAR and still no photo.

                                Talked to him a few weeks ago and said to send him a text with order #, and my shipping address. Did that, no response. After 15 more attempts over the last 4 weeks, I ended up threatening him with canceling the CC. Still nothing.

                                  Was your credit card actually charged? And if so, and you haven't disputed the charge for over a year, what were you waiting for? You should also file a complaint with BBB.

                                    Yes it was charged.
                                    I did receive 2/3 of my order, and every third month or so I actually get a hold of David and he says he'll get it out the same day. Funny how it never actually happens though.

                                      After all the hubub about how the photogs are loosing all of their income due to people stealing pictures, it's a shame that this photog can't live up to actual income he's received.

                                        I'm glad you got at least part of your order, but I still think you should contact your cc company and BBB. There is no excuse for him taking this long.
