As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading itdetails of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While its understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and its related to a horse for sale, regardless of whos selling it, it doesnt belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be bumped excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary youd rather avoid reading.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a users membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • The Elusive Perfect White Breech

This past fall, an amazing jumper mare fell into my hands and is now reteaching me how to be a jumper and has gotten me to be a three ring girl once again.
This means I can no longer hide in my basic tan breeches on Sundays, and have to be a big girl and wear whites at least once a week, if I don't do any other special classes.

As a bigger lady (size 30 or 32, depending on brand), whites can be hard to wear, especially if the fabric is completely see through. (Possible TMI alert) I also don't like to wear thongs to ride in, especially if I'm in my breeches for twelve hours.

I have a pair of Tredsteps that I like decently, but has anyone found the perfect white breech? I'm typically a Tailored girl, and I love Animo too, but I feel like their whites are a little too sheer, but haven't tried it on in awhile.
Let me know your favorite white breeches! I'd love some options!

I have a pair of Horze brand white breeches that are a really nice material and thickness. Looks like they have changed them a bit and have a sock bottom now, which I like over mine (which have velcro) so I don’t know if maybe they changed the fabric too though. My only other gripe is they aren’t quite long enough but I’m 5’11 so if you aren’t super tall that is probably fine!

Pikeur also has quite a few different fabrics and some of them are heavier than others so might be what you want, although they are pricier!

ETA: my Workout Empire white leggings are squat proof and ultra comfortable if you’re down with trying leggings/tights out over breeches. They were on sale recently too. I ride in workout tights all the time and other than sometimes missing pockets I love them. So comfortable, fit better, and I don’t notice them being any more slippery.

I only have one pair of white breeches (Romfh Sarafina), and I haven’t shown in them yet (hopefully this weekend!) - when I tried them on, I was happy with the coverage. Re: undergarments, I would probably look at a tan/beige no-line hipster.

So to combat the see-through problem, we (me and barn mates, especially those with backsides, also a bunch of size 30/32) target white pants with back pockets. My barn mate actually got the Smartpak Hadley breeches in white (full sticky seat) and loves them. I had smartpak Piper full seats in white (white with a light grey seat and back pockets) and those were great too.

I second Romfh breeches, they make a really nice, sturdy breech with a rise built for real adults. I've never tried on tailoreds whites so I can't speak for them, but I can say it's not a common brand seen in white. The jumpers tend to branch out brand wise for whites to some of the more European or alternative brands.

Other brands worth looking at (that I've tried) are Horze or B Vertigo.

Underpants: I actually have some of what is basically a womens boxer brief by Jockey. They're just underpants that come down to mid thigh, they disappear under the breeches and I have them in nude and white. They work really well and stay put. There's a few brands selling equivalents. I also wear them under dresses while walking around hot cities because otherwise my thighs will chafe like whoa.

weixiao Super tall you say? Look at B Vertigo. All their pants are too long for me, which makes me very sad. I am minus nine inches from you. The one pair of B vertigo pants I did have I had 4+ inches cut off by the dry cleaner (who looked at me like a crazy person when I made the request) and they still hit just below the ankle. Should have gone for 6. Sigh.

Good to know! I'll have to try those next time I am looking!

Definitely move to the nude no-line bikini or cheeky undies - target has some pretty decent ones. I can full bend over in yoga pants or white breeches and you can't see anything. For breeches themselves, I like the horze nordic. Romfh, Pikeur, Cavallo, ELT also have all pretty solid white breeches (I hail from event world though, so full seats are normal - they provide a ton of coverage). Budget-friendly option, I actually like the white pipers with the grey seat.

I'll have to try the longer brief type undies. I typically have no show and cheeky versions of undies and still have panty line issues.
I personally hate full seats if I'm not in a dressage saddle, so those are out for me which limits my options greatly, unfortunately!
I have a pair of Free xRein ones coming, as they seemed to look good, but if those don't work out, I'll be looking into Horze and B Virtigo. I get ads for Horze all the time on my instagram, so I should probably just bite the bullet and look into them!
I tried on Pikeurs at a consignment shop and the zipper popped for me, and the girl working there said this was a common problem with them, which scares me a bit, especially with a breech that expensive.

Pikeurs are hands down my favorite breeches. I wear the bejesus out of them - I wear them until the fabric is worn thin- and I've never had a zipper break. If you like the fit, go for it. They'll last forever as show breeches.

I wear white breeches for foxhunting (whomever decided white pants were a good idea for equestrians was delusional) and am LOVING my new Ovation Slim Secret whites. They are pretty snug, I think that is the "slim" in "slim secret), but don't feel like they are particularly see-through and they are crazy cheap! I got mine on super sale from Riding Warehouse.

I've had my Pikeur whites for over 10 years and they're STILL white. However, they are on the more see through side. Tailoreds are pretty thin as well. My favorite whites are the Stucks, Equiline and Samshield. All of them are more of a mid rise, wide waistband and thicker (but stretchy) fabric. More $$$ but they seem to be staying white and aren't paper thin, so that's worth it to me.

Romfh - absolutely, hands down the best, especially for bigger ladies - and they go up to 40 in some styles. My personal favorites are the Sarafinas, but the Isabella are made with the same stretchy-but-structured, non-see through fabric, but in a higher waisted cut.

Horze Tara breeches. I wear about the same size as you, and own about 4 or 5 pair of white breeches that were fails and I never intend to wear again. The Tara breeches I fell in love with from the moment I put them on and immediately ordered a black pair and waiting for the navy to come back in stock. The material is thick enough, but not heavy, they're high wasted and the cut is very flattering. They also size big, so you can go down a size or 2 with no worries, because they are very stretchy. The 32's were too big. The 30s are comfortable, but I think I could actually go down to 28 and they fit even better. Oh and SUPER comfortable. I normally wear tights because I don't like all the buttons and zippers and they're just more comfy, but these are even more comfortable than any tights I own.

I wear whites for all shows as an EU jumper it’s kind of expected though we can wear light grey or even tan but I digress. I absolutely love love love my Animo breeches. Some of them are thin and see through but I have a few pairs that have double material where it counts. Those and seamless undies are my go to. I typically grab them on sale at our local tack shop.

I have your game changer! Soma Intimates Vanishing Edge panties. Every woman I have turned on to them is IN LOVE. They are thin cut, so you can wear briefs and they don't show through even tight breeches and have a rubberized inside edge so they don't move (even with sweat while riding). Get a nude pair for under whites and you're good to go.

Then invest in some Pikeur whites and you will never dread dressing for Sunday again! <3

I don’t own them (yet) but the rj classics Gulf or Anna breeches were pretty opaque. The Gulf is a lowish mid rise, and the Anna is the same breech but a true mid rise.
