Board Rules

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

  • Knoxville TN Area Vets for PPE... I would appreciate your feedback

    I have the following recommendations...

Dr. Martin from UT's field service

    Dr. Robin McClamroch
(can't seem to find a website but she also appears to be somehow affiliated with UT and has done research and dental/gastric issues. I find it a little weird that this person has no website?)

    Pinnacle Equine

    Crossroad Equine

I'm thinking Dr. Martin from UT is probably the safest bet? This is an area of the country I am totally, totally unfamiliar with and aside from UT I am having some difficulty determining if the "standard of care" for a PPE is going to be what I would expect up here (i.e. if I had New Bolton do it). Any thoughts are appreciated.

Eric Martin or Neal Valk (both UTCVM) are great. So is Pinnacle (Matt Paxton, Rachel Buffkin, Robin McClamroch). Variety of different experiences amongst them -- Valk is a surgeon, and his wife is a dressage trainer, so lots of sporthorse experience there. Robin McClamroch was at New Bolton, is boarded in internal med, and used to be part of UTCVM. All good choices. Be specific about what you want out of a PPE, and any of them should be able to deliver what you want.

I can't. This is a permanent problem caused when we switched to the new hosting forum and it cannot be fixed. I've asked the mods more than once.

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Martin. He is absolutely fantastic. It's hard to find a vet who is excellent with horses, owners, AND students, but he is. I can't say enough wonderful things about him.

I have only used Dr. McClamroch for dental work; I don't know how she is with lameness work.

          I'm not familiar with Crossroads.

I would not recommend Pinnacle in general or for lameness issues. PM me if you'd like more specifics as to why. (ETA: I see you can't accept PMs. If you also can't send them and want more details, let me know, and I'll shoot you an email.)
