  • T-84 clipper blades. Toss or sharpen?

So a lot of folks body clip a couple of horses and toss their T-84 clipper blades rather than sharpening them. They cost $25 but haven't looked into sharpening them. One person said they did have them sharpened but were not nearly as good as new so just bought a new set.

Yikes, I'd definitely send them out to be sharpened. Premier1 offers the service and it's very affordable.

My guy charges $6 to sharpen T-84 blades. I can usually sharpen them at least twice. The third time is not nearly as effective.

If you are using the Andis AGC 2 speed clippers, I highly recommend replacing the blade drive every 15-20 clips. It's a $6 or $8 part and really makes a difference.

We resharpen our blade sets. Perhaps those folks don't use a good sharpening service, blades are not as good as they could be. Our blades get resharpened many times, cut like a new set. Wish I was there to scoop up the throw-aways!

              Good grief, what a waste.

I send my blades to Premier1 for sharpening twice a year. I get two or three clips out of a sharpening and usually 9-10 sharpenings out of a set of blades.

I send mine out to be sharpened. My place will let me know if they cannot be sharpened anymore and they will recycle them. My place sharpens all kinds of blades and knives for barbers and chefs.

I re-sharpened my T-84s, at least a few times per set.

For sure resharpen (gawd, they are a lot more than $25 in Canada Land). In fact, for some of the T-84s they come out better after the first sharpening than the package.

My clipper service place simply doesn't do any blades (of any kind) that they think are no longer viable.

Most definitely. I just replaced my blade drive for the first time on mine (easy...YouTube will show you how), and it made a world of difference.

I bought the blade drive on eBay.

For instructions, google “replace andis agc2 blade drive” and look at the video results. Lots of concise videos that show you how to do it. It isn’t difficult at all. If you can use a screwdriver, you can do it!

Sharpen! Such a waste to toss them every time. If they were returned not sharp enough, find a new business to sharpen. Ive definitely had to try a few to find someone who gave them back in "like new" sharpness, but it's definitely worth it!
