Board Rules

1. Youre responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading itdetails of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While its understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and its related to a horse for sale, regardless of whos selling it, it doesnt belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be bumped excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary youd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a users membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Anyone want to help me pick a TB? Yay finally vetting one post 60!!

Hi COTHERS! So, I have recently sold my beloved Connemara and am search of my next project. There is a track within reasonable shipping distance of me, and they have a great Facebook page that they keep updated with horses coming off the track. Great quality pictures, the page is so well done.

If you have time, I would love if a few people could scroll through the page and let me know which TBs perk your interest for an eventing career. I'd be buying site unseen with a vet check of course, just want a quality winter project to event next year.

Peace Offering, a horse on the page by Giant's Causeway, has my attention for sure but I know it's a lot to do with his flashiness. I'm also in love with That's My Buddy. Anyways, if you have time to take a look through and help me with my decision I would be indebted! Here is the page link.

He is over at the knee but The Giant's Causeway is pretty and I like him.

If you don't care about little I would be very interested in how The Black Witch moves. She isn't flashy and she is short but she checks my boxes. I bet that one will jump.

Captain Cliff would be my pick. He will mature into a lovely sport horse. Great pedigree too.

I also likes Sierra Delta. 30 starts...good type. If he's not too small for you, that is a looker.

lots of nice one there. the face on Readmetheodds....what a cutie.

eta: the Giant Causway is lovely too and the ones I've known off the track have been lovely sport horses too.

I was just cruising through the pictures and The Black Witch caught my eye, too. Good things come in small packages maybe?

The Giant's Causeway has me wrapped.

I just want someone to take Papow and feed him some peanut butter sandwiches, he looks so sweet and pitiful.

            i love, loved peace offering..

that being said does it HAVE to be final furlough? TONS of giants causeway horses around NY this time of year.. some thru stonesider, some thru frost giant, etc..

as far as lower levels go, over @ the knee does not scare me off as it is usually workload/stress induced. it typically does not bother them in a new career.

I also like Peace Offering, I'd seen him in fb and thought he was quite cute. Of course, I'm also a bit of a sucker for bays with chrome!

Looks like there are plenty of other potentially nice horses offered there as well, though.

I agree with all of the above! I want to feed Papow PB sandwiches, have the Giant's Causeway boy in my care, but most of all, I want ze Black Witch! Looks like a real deluxe sporty ride, but that's just a guess! Plenty of quality to pick from!

Thanks for the replies! I really like Black Witch as well...hate the name but that's not a deal breaker. Should I be worried about the pin firing on her front legs? I don't have any experience with that, not sure if it's an issue. For resale probably, though I don't think she'd be a great resale project anyways! Would be buying for me.

Pin firing wouldn't bother me at all. Black Witch is lovely. She has a year break in her record. May want to see why. Definately do a PPE.

Sierra Delta..for several reasons..His pedigree...Top and bottom have sound athlete producers....His race record..My god if that isn t a solid sound good winded big hearted horse.
Conformation, not to big not to small and very balanced, bet he is nimble on his feet and room to grow yet.
I would take 1 English channel over 2 Giants Causeways EVERY time...I have had enough experience with both of sires get to know what I like and the mind!!!..and Sierra Delta has a lovely Dam line as well.
The Black Witch filly has some appeal.....Pin Firing Freeze Firing don t bother me..some people won t buy them most who are informed don t care....

Lord Gallovic was my pick, but he sold. I liked Sierra Delta, but would want a video. He does have a strong racing record and is balanced in all of the right places.

Captain Cliff is probably my second pick if it was a personal horse not geared for UL.. He's just my type; compact, small[er], spunky and bay - he's not as uphill as I like but everything about his pedigree screams fun event project. I doubt he'd be bringing down the house with UL potential but he has a very close pedigree to two brothers I know and loved to ride.

Finger Lakes has a mare I'm keeping my eye on. I don't think she is as downhill as the pictures suggest, based on the video:

Cliff is only 3....So and looks pretty up hill in his balance for one that age. He looks a LOT like several UL horses I know looked when they were 3. To me...he is one people wouldn't jump right at but has all the parts and the pedigree to go far.

But Sierra was the one that caught my eye as having the look of an UL horse....and he has proven he is durable. So if he looked sound moving...he is who I would bring home as prospect.

I definitely think he has potential as an eventer, but I don't think his neck is going to change where it is tied in even as he grows; it's lower than most people like. I've worked with a few horses from that sire line and they're built very similar, not the highest neck connection. Now, that wouldn't bother me as it is just my type. I loved what I saw of his video, I think there is plenty of potential there. He's too far from me and the inn is full, otherwise he'd be snatched up in a heartbeat.

So funny you started this thread - I was just looking at the Final Furlong page last week and Black Witch was the one I liked the best! I am in BC so Winnepeg is too far for me, but its fun to look at the pictures

Thank you for the replies! I'm going to likely schedule a vet check for Sierra Delta, watched some race videos and really like him. Curious how you guys think he compares to this fellow, who was just posted on another site and also looks like a really nice boy to me. Opinions would be great before I schedule vet checks. Thank you!!

Another show horse waiting to happen, this horse just shines! If you like redheads, hes your dude! He's only 4 and definitely currently growing so will mature and fill out off the track to be even more impressive. Sound with a nice jog with a lot of suspension, personable and interested in what I was doing. He did not photograph that well, but I blame that on the groom ?? (who I also threatened to sell!) Very easy to handle. No vices at all. Straight, clean legs. Just a big nice horse that should go on to a second career like a champ.

The new one is cute but I can't find him and his pedigree/record. He's also much bigger. But between the two, I like Sierra Delta better just based on first impression. Sierra looks better overall balance. The Hooner horse has better bone but both have raced enough that enough/not enough bone just doesn't factor for me.

I would have watch them move.

What she said......while 16.2 is a more appealing size for re sale...right now I have 3 who are barely 16H and all are incredibly athletic and elegant movers on flat and over fences all have a gallop...In the end it will be what floats "Your" boat not ours...keep us in the loop....
