  • Wooded Tack Trunk - Recommendations??

I am in the market for a new tack trunk and I'm ready to spend the $$ to get one that will last me into forever...

So, please help me with recommendations!! I know both Dover and SmartPak have trunks that are simlarly priced with subtle differences, so if it is a choice between these two, I'm not sure how to pick.

Who else sells a good trunk? Pros and cons of different models?

The MW Jumps ones are basically what I make here and they are at least $100 less than what I usually charge. It's a very good deal, would not hesitate to order this were I in the market and unable to make.

I don't have a brand recommendation, but wanted to point out that you should look at the dimensions and make sure that it will fit in your vehicle. Mine will not fit in my car, only in the pickup bed, it also takes two people to move it in and out of the pickup. My dad made it for me and I didn't tell him how big to make it.

Thanks for your thoughts--and great recommendation about fitting into the car!!

Any thoughts about bandage holders in the lid vs. not? It seems convenient, but does it make the lid really heavy?

Custom Made is a website that you should look at. You might be able to find someone to make your trunk for you and get exactly what you want. I have heavy wheels that lock on the bottom of mine and they are a lifesaver! I think I would rather have some type of netting in the top so you could use it for things other than bandages if you want.

I have the Phoenix West tack box and it has held up well. I did not get the bandage lid as heard that due to the weight it often causes the lid hinges to break down faster than without the bandage option. I have one box that is all wood and another older box (Warner's) that is the vinyl with a metal top which is still going strong after 40 years - replaced the lid risers once!
