Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • I have an eventer!!(Intro to eventing clinic today!)

I am so excited about the clinic today with Jon Holling! What a great clinic! I rode in the 2nd group at 10:30 and Tucker was just awesome! He jumped everything..water, ditch, bank, steps, logs. We got to test Kyle Carter's 3 new jumps..they look like the read deal...a wood wall and 2 logs...Jon informed us they were made of styrofoam! No one would have known if we weren't told! Jon liked Tucker and was very positive in his clinic. His only comment for us was to work on the grid work, but was very pleased with the way he handled xc and thought he would be able to do whatever I wanted (I didn't tell him I only aspired to go as far as novice!) I am just on cloud 9 and very pumped up..on the way home, I decided my goal will be the recognized event at RH in February and then Ocala Horse Park in March.
The girls I rode with were great as well as everyone there spectating. Thanks to Jenn and Jon, Inda, and Ocala PC for providing refreshments! And it was great to see Wynn there..one of the girls in my group rode a full sister to Teddy.
Oh, and I know I said no pics of me, but I realized 2 things today: First, ,my Tipperary makes me look thinner and second, I had such a BLAST, that if anyone did take some pictures of us, I would really love to see them!

Lori T I know I have some pictures of you in the water area and may have some from other times thru out the clinic I'll have to go back thru my 200 plus photos from the day. I'm the mom of the girl in the blue on the flea bitten gray from your group, the one that had some issues to over come today. I have to agree the clinic was wonderful and my daughter is now HOOKED beyond belief it's all she can talk about.

Well, I've been a part of eventing for some time now, just as a groom and horseshow mom...now that Jen is off to school and Tucker is old enough, it is MY time! I already get the memberships form, this year I will just be adding my name to Jen's! Thanks for organizing this!

Thanks. She really did stick with it today and made her horse do what needed to be done (and fixed herself too).
No PC for us though, I looked into it but have personal reasons as to why I will not let her join.

Whew! I am just home, and my boys are out and happy and I'm about to go off to bed myself, but wanted to say that we had a BLAST. And that i will post some of the 251 pictures from the first and last groups in the morning.

2ponyriders -- if you;d be willing to post yours too, we'd have tons of pics from all groups!

I'm going to see if my photobucket account can host that many images or where the best place to put them up will be . . .

I was in your group- you were great!!! He has a completely spring loaded jump and you really stick with him! I enjoyed watching him go, he's a very nice horse.

It was a great clinic, and I had a seriously unbelievable amount of fun.

                        Wow, thanks!

I think we need to have a COTH username reveal when we do something in person!

Your horse is adorable, and I am wishing that my grey filly would grow up to look just like her! and to be that good -- she was awesome!

Sara's pictures are pretty good -- she caught a couple of him over the purple and yellow oxer and his belly is almost at the TOP of the standard. Aieeeeee -- how did I stay on that and why didn't it scare the hell out of me?!!

He is really something -- we aren't sure yet what, but something!

We got home a little after midnight and I turned him out and he had enough energy to want to run and play. He's definitely a nut. All I wanted to do was to collapse!

Pictures in a little while -- anyone know if I post them to the Facebook Intro to Eventing Group if anyone can access them or if you'd have to have an account?

Libby (who is limping out to feed now )

Grady, you DO need to get Jon to show you his trick of using a girth buckle to open a beer bottle! Billy never batted an eye when Rasta's new girth came once that happened!

Julie -- it IS Buzzmonster!! Jon and Jenn felt confident that I COULD jump him myself (Ralph is the only one that really ever has jumped him and I've seen what he can do and was very leery of trying it myself! )

He was very tolerant of me and I thought we did better once I took my spurs off -- I don't think he needed the extra impulsion!

We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for your new prospect!

Ok, the pics are up on my facebook page and on the Intro to Eventing Group page, also on Facebook.

Caution! They are the unedited, unpicked through pictures. I didn't even delete the one we have of the ground (wtf?) -- I just put them all up.

They are heavy on pics of Harvey, Buzz, Boomer and Jaeger, because those were the horses that Bronwyn (talkofthetown) and I were riding, but Sara did try to get pics of folks in both groups with us as well.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=40080978205 is the group page, if you are already a Facebook member and want to join this group. The pictures here are up in reverse order, unfortunately and it won't let me organize them into albums or reverse the order, so if you go to page 13 and look at them backwards, you'll see them in proper order.

on my facebook page, I have them sorted into albums and numbered.

The first one is here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...7&id=552716126

I'm going to logout of facebook and see if it allows me to see it, while I'm not logged in and whether I can see the other albums from this link. If not, we can fiddle with it and figure out how to post/link the pics.

Ok, you have to be a member of Facebook to see the second link, but the first one worked while I wasn't logged in.

I have to also give a shout out to Harvey -- he was a trooper. He did great in the gymnastics, but was sure XC was going to eat him alive. Thus, you will see many pictures of Jon riding Harvey, and convincing him that he COULD do this.

talkofthetown did great with Boomer, which is her horse, and with Jaegermonster's Jaeger. Jaegermonster had to make the painful decision (in more ways than one) to not ride in the clinic, but graciously allowed Bronwyn to catch ride her in the clinic and they both did GREAT!

More of a report coming, but I wanted you guys to see the pictures sooner, rather than later!

                                Libby

And, I want to make a special point of saying that Jon, Jenn and everyone at Willowrun Farm are just FANTASTIC!

What a great clinic experience and overall really fun time!

Well, here are my shots of Clee!

Jessica did a great job of handling Cliche's many "chestnut mare" moments. And one thing I noticed in these images is the way there's almost always a straight line between elbow and bit in these shots.

Great job, Jessica. Thank you for giving Clee some really good mileage!

Oh, WOW, wynn!! I am really, extra sorry now that I didn't get to see the second group go!

We had to run get hay, as mine had gotten too wet with all the rain, and I lost my second bale, and that was the only time I had to do it. I am VERY sorry that I didn't get to see Clee go -- she is AWESOME!

                                    What nice pictures!!!

As you guys look at the pictures and Wynn's video, you'll see the xc jumps that Jon has us do three in a row -- those are the new styrofoam jumps that Kyle Carter has developed -- pretty cool concept!
