Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Taco and Reason Updates...

so, its been a long time since I have updated- and this thread will have another contributor soon- as Taco is going to go to Cookiepony's house to stay for a year.

My life has been rather crazy- I am back in school, ( this is NOT easy...makes prelim a cakewalk!!) and so I can do this, I am working midnights every weekend. So, no shows, at least for the next year or 2.

I needed someone to have Taco and love him as I have, plus ride him, as I just don't have time. CP came and met him, fell in love (of course!) and decided to try it. Taco will leave next week- and CP will keep us all updated on how he is doing. They will be at her trainers for 6 weeks to make sure all works, and if it all does, she will be showing him, and he will hopefully teach her the ropes of training level. So, she is totally on target, if not ahead, for the TR level 3 day!

Reason has been great, and I uploaded some pics of him. He is 13 months old, been off of his drugs for 2 months, seems very healthy. You cannot see his scar at all, and overall, is just great. Cheeky...yes! Enjoy!

    Pics of reason...

oh... and that is MME- the tiny thing with the dark hair.

I do NOT know how people get good pics of baby's or yearlings!! It's really hard!

Getting my RN- finally. Doing prereqs now- I was 8 years ago, and am again now an ICU tech in the CCU- great job, but limited. So, it's time.

Honestly, I am lucky to get hired, for many reasons, a lot which you know FC! MME was very excited I passed my PPE as she called it! But more then that, the economy in MI is just hell right now. So, I feel very lucky. tired, but lucky!

That's wonderful! I'm looking forward to hearing about CookiePony's adventures with Taco. Reason is growing up so beautifully - no one would guess that he'd had such a rough start, by looking at him.
Stay me with coffee, comfort me with chocolate, for I am sick of love.

Aww, Annika, I know seeing Taco go will result in tears, but it will be a worthwhile thing in the big scheme of things. He needs a job (even if that job recently has been driving you crazy) and you need time to make this school thing work. My heart goes out to you, but CP will be a fabulous person for him.

I haven't looked at the Reason pics yet, but you know what a huge difference you've made in his life. He's a very lucky boy to have landed with you and I'm so glad to hear he's doing well.

Maybe we can do Riggs and Reason's first event together, much like Taco and Bugsy! We'd have plenty of reasons to toast the end of the weekend.

Glad to get an update on both, Annika! Good luck with school, and I admire you for doing it! Busy indeed! Hope to see you at Richland this weekend if you're not working, that is!

Oh, WOW! I am so excited to hear that Taco is doing well enough to go to Cookiepony's to play. That is just such fabulous news! And, of course, the news about Reason is totally awesome too.

And, best wishes for school -- that is a tough thing to take on but I know you will do a fabulous job of it!!

                    Annika,

Thanks for sharing those pics! Reason is looking so grown up and quite lovely. I hope that your life will not be too busy for you to dance, at least once in a while! Good luck in school. You are very generous to let go of Taco. CP will do him proud.

Wow, that's exciting! Reason looks beautiful, even for a yearling. You want to see some UGLY yearling pictures, I have some of Bonnie with no hair, all skin and bones, swollen joints, etc. Healthy and sassy is beautiful, period.

And hooray for CP! What an awesome schoolmaster.

Awww ... those pix of Reason are too cute. Sounds like Taco's new home is a win-win-win for all 3 of you. How great that you found such a good deal for him with someone that you trust where he will continue to live the good life.

Hey there! On many accounts, I'm so delighted for CP - she MORE than deserves a nice horse and will learn so much from your grand boy - one thing for sure - BUY LOTS OF CARROTS!!!!!!

Reason is simply lovely, and remains, like Taco, a tribute and testament to your persistent care and love.

Good for you for going for your RN and as usual jumping into something that needs to be done with everything you can give - I know DH appreciates you, but lots of sick people will too.

MUCHO luck and will be thinking of you.

Woohoo, Reason looks great! And Annika, I was wondering how you were doing, I haven't been doing much riding myself lately, it's a long story. So glad Taco is going to have some fun, sounds like he's feeling well and spunky.

The school sounds great, you will be great at it, all that practise with the ponies. I always say I learn a lot about in vivo pharmacology from my pony. Seems like just yesterday we were both entered at Richland and having a ball.

Well done, Annika! Making big changes in your life, bravely and with forethought about your babies.

Taco will do brilliantly, and when he comes home to you will be ready to do whatever you want.

Reason looks spectacular! Is that the same little fellow you were despairing over this past winter? I think you proved your ICU creds and then some with that save.
Many hugs to you and many carrotten to the boys.
They don't call me frugal for nothing.

Done deal--we'll do our first event together with the boys and see if we can do better than last and 2nd to last after dressage and not getting bucked off during show jumping warm up.

At least both these boys are already nearly broke!

(Riggs got his shoe off, his tendon laxity is greatly resolved, he got to come to come out and visit at Lani's b-day party and show his surgeon how great he's doing. Everyone had to ask which leg it was.)

Hi! Thank you for all of the kind words! I have been wanting to log on all day but we had a family gathering. Of course, everyone who would listen heard all about Taco.

Taco is a dream come true for me, to say the least. Earlier this spring, I realized that Banks and I have gotten got as far as we can together. He's taught me so much and has been a really good horse for me to get out and show on, but we aren't such a great match temperamentally. I've been lucky enough to borrow a friends's draft x for the summer, so I've been able to keep riding.

But several weeks ago, Annika and I were exchanging emails and she mentioned that she needed to find a job for Taco. I screwed up my courage to ask whether she would be willing to let him be a lower-level horse for a little while and help me meet my Training 3-Day goal, and to my delight she was!! And, as she said, of course once I met him I was besotted. For my trial rides Taco was a perfect gentleman, and I loved how I was able to groom and fuss over him and he just ate it up. (Annika's farm and family are wonderful too, so I had the added bonus of spending some time getting to know them better, including handsome little Reason!). I decided to wait until I got home from a couple of trips I had planned for this month so I could be there when he arrived, so he's coming next week! I am having a very hard time being patient-- it is like waiting for Christmas when I know there will be a pony under the tree, only Christmas is in August!

I am optimistic about our trial six weeks, and pinching myself that Taco is coming to me! I am so lucky to have the opportunity to get such a wonderful partner for the next year or two, and very honored by Annika's choice of me as his guardian. She's lending her wings to me-- thank you Annika.

Best of luck going back to school! I think about it sometimes, but as I face down 40, it scares me the death.
