Frankly, in most places, the autopsy is "public record". Having said that, it doesn't mean it is automatically released to the media for wide distribution.

What on earth is it of your business to know unless the family wishes to release the information?

Some background, from someone who has made these requests in the past...

Usually, there are two parts to a Medical Examiner's report: the autopsy report and the investigative report.

A death is referred to the ME (or Coroner) when it happens under certain circumstances. A suspicious death, a violent death, a death in an epidemic (or suspected contagious disease) -- all of those you might expect. But in most jurisdictions, any unexpected death falls under ME protocols. This would be the case here.

Once an ME's report is completed, it is available via public records request -- but with limitations. Usually, the autopsy report is given only to family members. The investigative report is available to anyone who makes the request but there may be some redactions for privacy issues. The family can choose whether or not to make the autopsy report public. Toxicology reports vary from jurisdictions.

I'd never jump to tell anyone that a ME report is 'none of your business.' There are all kinds of reasons people request these things, these reports are, in part, public records, and there's no need to get judgmental about it.

I asked the same question a couple of days ago on the original AT thread, and I certainly didnt mean any harm, or to pry. I just think about her A LOT (I never even met her, she was just someone I looked up to)

She was a role model to many people, and her death was so sad. I think its natural to wonder what happened to her. Human nature..... not trolling......

Right, she was somewhat of a public figure, certainly in the Eventing world she was, and I wouldn't assume it is just nosiness, but I would think it would give people a sense of closure to a shocking and disturbing unexpected loss, not that they are owed anything, but it just sort of helps, you know.

I think there is a natural curiosity. Our local paper publishes the causes of death for our county every week, so yes, here at least it is a very public record.

Why not? I wouldn't know where else to ask........ It seems logical that a BB full of eventers might be the ones to ask considering that AT was an eventer.......

The circumstances remind me of the famous runner Jim Fixx, and his untimely death while jogging.

"James Fuller Fixx (April 23, 1932 – July 20, 1984) was the author of the 1977 best-selling book, The Complete Book of Running. Best known as Jim Fixx, he is credited with helping start America's fitness revolution, popularizing the sport of running and demonstrating the health benefits of regular jogging.

The autopsy revealed that atherosclerosis had blocked one coronary artery 95%, a second 85%, and a third 70%. while I don't necessarily think it is anyone's business, you will note if you Google that the initial reports of her death all seemed to at least insinuate that more on the cause of death would be made available when more was known, since it was sudden and unexpected.

I doubt the OP was trolling, more just asking if COD had been released. I am sure if the cause was released publicly everyone here would read it. Typically 42 year olds don't commonly die in their sleep. Just my two cents. Carry on.

Unfortunately it isn't as uncommon as one would think. My Secretary's husband died in his sleep at 34. Went up stairs one afternoon because he didn't feel well to take a nap. She checked on him an hour or so later and he was gone. Just tragic. He had otherwise seemed healthy. I've know a few other people too.

It is hard to lose someone so unexpectedly and at such a young age...and very sad. I feel the worst for her friends and family left behind.

I understand wanting to know....but knowing will not make it any less tragic.

Maybe I should edit to add seemingly healthy 42 year olds don't commonly die in their sleep, such as one with diabetes, heart disease or chronic renal disease. Of course I dont know if she had preexisting conditions such as those. Either way that comes out sounds bad I suppose :/. Anyone dying at 42 unexpectedly is tragic.
