Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

    Trakehners rock

Wow...this is a great and positive thread. I've had trakehners since 1988. Starting with tb approved mare (CSHA and Can.Trak) bred to Trak.approved stallion. Then...kept that daughter, bred a superb tb mare at age 19 to trakehner...kept that daughter...her dam was approved at age 21...and the inspectors commented on what clean legs she had, the dam that is, etc. for her age and having been a race horse to boot. The dam was awesome to ride too. Then...bought a trakehner yearling stud by Nemo out of a Falko QV dam...so...at this time...although breeding dutch/trakehner...still breeding a few trakehners as well. 3, four year olds presently at home by our youngest trakehner stallion. Hoping to bred a mare or two to the older trakehner stallion, and keep one...normally they sell too fast. We love the riding temperment and work ethic of our trakehners! Amazing. So in total at this time.
    2 Trakehner stallions
7 trakehner mares Sired by Bernstein, Falko QV, Schwalbenherbst, Liebreiz, Merkur
One of the mares is in foal to Liebreiz, 1 is retired, 1 in foal to our Dutch Warmblood stallion.
Oh..forgot the coming 4 year old gelding. So..total of 10 trakehners on our farm. Plus another 16 warmbloods and 2 thoroughbred mares (both producers of premium warmblood or trakehner offspring).
Our deceased dutch stallion had Doruto as his damsire!! Also trakehner there..chuckle.

Here's a pic I got last night, already posted on another thread, but . . .

            http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...eratSunset.jpg

Not a competition pic. Alas, her dressage and in fact riding days are over after a severe ankle injury. But she is a certified, inspected, and approved OSB Trakehner.

              Trakehner?

Ok, guess I have a trakehner?? I purchased my horse at the hanoverian auction in Germany last year so he was registered there as a hanoverian. However, his mom was hessian so he has a hessian brand and can't be registered in the US as a hanoverian. His dad is Latimer so think that also makes him a trakehner. Guess I have a mutt Anyway we love him dearly and would get another just like him if we could. I wrote about our buying experience at the auction here - http://www.sensationsporthorses.com/blog/ and there is also a gallery with photos of our Teddy there.

Thank you, I love Latimer too - beautiful. Not sure if this is typical but my boy does love to work - we have to keep his mind busy. Anyway, would buy a Latimer foal again.

We love our Latimer too! He isn't 100% Trakehner, he's a bit more than 75%, but what a sweetie he is. He just loves to be with people and is a really honest worker. I think that is a real Latimer thing.

His picture is on the web site.

My first horse was a trakehner. (anglo arab really)

out of Sobek and the same Shayga lines as Windfall II.

She is small and red. She was the devil. I'm sure of it.

My tomb stone says, "my horse was made in Poland".

When she was retired due to injury she was starting some working pirouette and a lil bit of half pass.
Didn't have much for lengthens though. I'd say she was 1st level.
Training level eventing and I had wanted to move her up to Prelim.
She excelled at the 3' jumpers though. She was as fast as the ponies but made the horse stride and wasted NO time in the air.

And she bucked my butt off monthly.

                        I sure loved her!
But now I'm older and smarter, and don't like to hit the ground so often. lol.

I've been reading this thread all along...

I didn't post before, because I'm not RIDING my TrakenerX. He's a long 2yo (August birthday, so another month he'll be rising 3! )

But I just came in from seeing him, and I'm so very excited. He's a special kid.

He's a *Malachit grandson, out of my *Malachit daughter amazing grand old gem of a mare. She was a true adult ammy hunter for most of her life, always, always in the ribbons in the nicely competitive Western NY area. Then at the tender age of 14 she switched to dressage, scoring in the 70%s at First Level--again, with her ammy owner and no professional training. She raised an orphan foal for me alongside her own filly, and her legacy is my colt.

Said colt is 1/2 Arab. Well, he is 31/32 Arab. He gets his tobiano (!) from 1/32 of ASB. I love his substance--he still looks 'baby-ish' but already has such a substantial barrell, he'll take up my leg beautifully.

I don't know if he'll go SportPony or bigger. 2 of his 1/2 sibs (damside) are easily 16h, one stayed smaller, will be maybe 15h at maturity. Most of his sire-side sibs are bigger, but one is small. He's 14.1-ish right now, taller behind... Super bone & feet. I don't mind either way, he'll be a killer SportPony prospect if he stays on the smaller side--lookout imports!!!

Anyway, been following the thread... jealous of many of you Someday I do hope to have another great Tk mare to continue Lugh's lines. For now I was just busting with pride and joy at my feisty, funny, fluffy little guy.

Dutch Mike, my horse - a six year old Trak/Shagya cross - looks so much like your guy! Only he's hairy. Well, maybe not so much now since he's off for two months of training and has been clipped. I'm going to go visit next week and am looking forward to seeing his new, clipped self. Although I also realize he's been spending much more time in a stall and you know what that means with a gray horse....

I don't know how to post pics...

I'm not going to post a gazillion links. If anyone wants to see the horses you are invited to peruse our website.

I purchased my first Trakehner to be a broodmare because I was breeding Appaloosa Sport Horses only at the time. The mare is an Anglo-Trakehner by Kartacz - a pretty unknown stallion that was not promoted and then died tragically. I ended up riding her insteading of breeding and she was a lovely naturally collected mover and enthusiastic jumper - the kind you have to work at keeping away from the jumps in the ring. She is no longer sound due to a ridiculous pasture injury and is 18 this year. Karoline's Traum, is the one that turned me on to Trakehners and I now have several Trakehners and Anglo-Trakehners as well as some Trakehner crosses.

Kryptic is a 2007 colt by Fandango and out of Karoline's Traum. A very handsome young man, intelligent and sensible. He is our up and coming stallion prospect.

Ala is a 1995 purebred Trakehner mare by Troy and out of Austria by Flaneur. She is a substantial mare. She is my riding horse (dressage, jumping,) however I haven't ridden her for a couple of years due to lack of time.

Adahlia is a 2007 purebred filly by Advocate *Ps* and o/o Ala.

???? is a bun in the oven due 5/19/09. Sire is Trakehner stallion Blitz und Donner and o/o Ala. This foal is being carried by a recip mare.

Good Faith is an Anglo-Trakehner mare by Graditz *E*. She has produced two nice crosses with Irish Draught stallions (see below).

Phoenix is a 2006 gelding by Western Sun RID o/o Good Faith. He will be 3 in June and I look forward to getting him going. He is definitely going to be a dressage horse.

Serendipity is a 2007 filly by Macha Breeze RID o/o Good Faith. This girl has beautiful movement and could go dressage with no problem at all but she has the athleticism and spirit to be a very competitive eventer as well.

Tallulah Belle is a 2007 filly by Tanzeln and o/o my appaloosa mare Waps Skip N Line. Super athletic and confident filly that should do well in the jumpers or perhaps eventing.

???? Is Tallulah's full sibling and is expected 6/1/09

And we have a leased broodmare here named Devotion. She is by Hailo *Pg*E* and o/o a TB mare. Her owner rode her dressage up to 3rd level if I remember correctly.

We are breeding a couple of mares to Oskar II *Pg* this year (Devotion and Karoline's Traum) and I'm really looking forward to seeing those babies. We are also planning on breeding Ala to Joe Pimental's newly approved Trakehner stallion Holster. Very exciting.

I love the Trakehners because they are intelligent in addition to their other positive characteristics. I appreciate a thinking horse. You have to build a relationship with the horse, not just boss it around like you can with some breeds. I appreciate this kind of relationship and companionship most...it is real. That is why I also love Appaloosas. I find them to be very similar in that respect.
