Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

    Me

Used to compete our Trakehner stallion but he has now retired from competition tho at the mature age of 22 is still breeding and gets ridden now and then.

Now compete one of his daughters, though she is out of a Hannoverian mare.

Also have ridden various others of his offspring.

Have a lovely yearling grand-daughter of his waiting in the wings that I am eyeing up as my next riding horse......unless i get too good an offer to refuse ;-)

I had one for 12 years. Sadly he died this past October. He was a fabulous horse. He had been poorly started (ridden incorrectly in draw reins) which made him resent collected work but he was amazing in the hunt field.

I presently have a few too many as well, so here goes by age:

Babylon; bay mare, soon to be 21, By Peron out of Baroness by Sedan, she was one of the best junior amateur jumpers that this area has ever had. Many kids competed on her, and most of them brought home Champion ribbons.
Pr. St. Zaubermaus, black mare, by E. H. Tambour out of Zaubernacht by E. H. Caprimond, 7 years sold, green broke, but was Champion of her SLP in Germany with a score of 8.0.
Zauberteufel, black gelding, by Waitaki out of Zaubermaus by Tambour, 3 year old, just started under saddle.
Tequila, bay/black gelding by Elkadi II out of Terra Prussia by Graciano, 2 year old.
Zayla, black weanling filly, by Titulus out of Zaubermaus by Tambour.

Anissa, I am not so secretly hoping for a colt out of my Pennant mare. I do love my mares, but geldings seem to have a bigger share of the market. Does anyone know what the odds are of getting a gray? Mare is dark bay, as was Pennant and her TB dam.

Bogie, very sorry for your loss. The ones that come with baggage are even tougher to lose, I think. How wonderful that you found each other and he was able to do something he loved.

I owned a full sister to Pennant. Her name was Pyrrha and she died at age 8 three days after foaling. I loved that mare dearly, and I will never have another one like her.

I think that you have a 50/50 chance of grey unless SM is homozygous??? I have no idea if he is or not.

I really like/love my Pennant mare - more than I thought I would actually. She takes a while before she figures you are "her person" but once you have her you have her 100%. I was very very lucky to get her!! She's going to Horalas this year and I'm kind of excited to see what that produces!

I don't believe getting a grey is possible unless one or both parents are grey also. Pennant sure was a fabulous horse, though! I have quite a "collection" of horses also, but only one is TK and one is an approved Thoroughbred mare. The rest are Thoroughbreds and one Oldenburg yearling gelding. I believe I have 12 in all plus one boarder. Not a fun time of year to have that many!
                      Merry Christmas to all!

PS Say a prayer for my close friend's Inspecteur (TK) gelding, who is a fabulous dressage horse that she bred and trained, has just been diagnosed with EPM.

I started off my dressage life 20+ years ago with a half-Trak by Troubadour. His other side was Clyde/Tenn walker (!) but luckily he moved and looked just like a big Troubadour (17.1 and 1600 lb). Took him from a green broke 5 year old and we made it to I-1. Unfortunately, he had COPD and cushings (and absolutely refused to eat pergolide regardless of the form) and he died a couple years ago.

Now I have 3 full Trakehners:
Schiffon *Ps* by EH Anduc out of Surprise by Mago xx. We compete at PSG/I-1 and are schooling GP. I absolutely love this horse.

Pr. St. Viva Vanessa by Ursprung out of Vanezia by Wakond (Arogno) out of Vanessa by Ibikus. Her granddam Vanessa is the dam of EH Van Deyk. Viva Vanessa is now in foal to Schiffon. She's currently in light work and after this foal we'll show her. Really fun and comfortable, she scored ~7.8 at her MPT. She was bred and started by Dorothee Schneider.

Viva Vanessa's weanling filly by King Arthur, named Vivianne. Scored 27 at her foal evaluation. She'll also be bred to Schiffon when the time comes then I think she'll be a big time dressage horse.

Expecting another Trak in the spring by Schiffon out of my well bred and great moving PSB thoroughbred by Harbor Man (who goes back to Ice Capade and First Landing) out of a mare who goes back to Bold Bidder. My mare is line-bred (3x4) Turn-to.

Have 2 half-Trak babies by Schiffon (branded ISR/Oldenburg). One named Schigazzo who is out of Aragazza (Rohdiamant-Andiamo-Welt As) and was a premium colt. The other is named Scharlotte who is out of Wasilida (Woronow-Donnerhall-Feiner Stern). She's had health problems, unfortunately so not sure how she'll do in the long term.

Most of them can be seen at www.glamorganmanor.com although the site could use some updating!

I have the outstanding honor and privilege to be the human companion and riders of three outstanding Trakehners:

                          1. Happy Hour - THE horse of MY lifetime (schooling PSG)

                          2. Induc - Happy's sire - German Bundeschampion (with scores of 10's) and still strutting his stuff at 18+... (the "schoolmaster")

                          3. Perfect Hour - Our lovely 5-year old (16.3) boy by Happy Hour out of our lovely TB mare who tragically departed from this world WAY too young -- a wonderful meshing of world-class, old line Trakehner bloodlines with superb quality TB lineage. His mom was an incredible, kind and vibrant lady whom we loved dearly and greatly miss -- she is in our thoughts and hearts every day. He's still growing and we're taking our time -- "hurry up slow"... (1st level)

Why didn't I see this sooner?

Gigi is my first WB and my first Trakehner after a couple Thoroughbreds. I am so enamored with this horse and the breed. I love the look of them, the pureness of the breed, the versatility, the temperment - so cool and smart about it all (although I was forewarned these were "hot" horses) mine most certainly is not, and of course the movement, which I must saw is absolutely jaw dropping (as in goose bumps!).

She is a full reg'd Canadian Trakehner by the sire Herder (Amiego), I would have to look up her Dam side. I purchased at 2.5 and we are still going strong 3 years later (though I will admit she's in her teenage "make me work" years!) When she is good, she is GOOD...when she is bad, she is STUBBORN. She will most likely go into Hunter/Medals or Dressage, but has a full sister that is an upper level Eventer (CCI 1*) as well as many other successful relatives.

I met and married my first Trakehner some years ago, my mare by Pregelstrand out of a TB. I bought her as a broodmare prospect, never got a foal, but had so much fun riding her that I would happily pay 5 times her price for her again. She taught me more than all other horses of my life except one, and unlike him, hers were positive lessons. The week before her death, she and I had our last ride in the pasture. Chrissy was still athletic at age 27, supple, ever demanding that I do it right, but awesome when I did. Road workers were patching potholes that day, and they kept stopping to stare. It started out as "oh, she rides ENGLISH" looks, but rapidly became, "OMG! I've never seen a horse move like that!" One week later, she was fine one night, down the next morning in her field. I made the call and sat with her while waiting, and after eating a last peppermint, she slipped away with her head in my lap. Totally peaceful, just going to sleep. She was almost gone when the vet got there, and he gave her just a small final boost over. She converted me for life to the breed.

                                Since then. . .

Chestnut mare by Vincent out of a Pregelstrand mare. Pasture sound, my foundation broodmare. She has given me two different but neat colts by Paramoure, both sold. She is currently allegedly not in foal to Khalif.

Cleveland Bay/Trak cross. My main riding horse, and the supreme diva of the pasture. Everything in her life from her movement to her herd attitude is extravagant. A lot of fun, but always watch her, because she is always watching you.

Black mare by Veneziano out of a TB. Permanently retired due to dislocated fetlock, but the more I see her, the more I wish I could ride her, not just breed. I already have a name picked out for her first filly, whom I will name in honor of my Mom, and that filly will be a keeper. This mare and the Vincent mare will be bred in 2009 for more Traks.

And most likely coming soon to a pasture near me, but deals aren't fully finalized yet, so I'm afraid to say absolutely: Two more wonderful Traks. One would be a fun riding horse for me; I am about to arrange a preliminary look/ride in spite of pretty lousy pictures because her video reminded me of Chrissy. If she in fact in the flesh and under saddle reminds me of Chrissy, I will buy her. The other hopeful newcomer in the next several months would be my best broodmare to date.

There's nothing like a good Trakehner.

I have a riding age son of Oskar II (out of Maskottchen) who is registered Oldenburg, but is 100% Trakehner on both sides. He's 6, and I was also forewarned about the "hot Trakehner temperment", but Oliver is anything but hot. he's easily one of the most laid-back horses I've ever owned, and is super-easy to train. The most wonderful thing about him is that he LOOOOOVES to jump, especially xc! He hasn't been at it that long, but he shows quite a fondness for it and is a blast to ride. He's an absolute sweetheart, very forgiving, and nothing phases him - loves to trail ride, splashes through water, loves to have his head scritched.

If Oskar babies are all like this, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. I've waited my whole life for this horse!

Uh, well, I have to say, Oskar pretty much rocks. I DREAM of having a foal by him. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll have a mare to breed him to anytime soon. I am thrilled to death with my Paramoure gelding. He is smart as a whip, easy to train, is VERY affectionate and does a darned good job of putting up with mom (ME). I love him so much!!
