Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Unfortunately, maybe, I do not have photos of maresy's finest show moments, e.g. her reactions to Monsters at E, or her finest clinic moment, aka "Let's show off our skill at tantrums for LINDA ZANG!"

From the Monsters at E show, though, in warm-up, we did go from Beautiful dressage pony to I really am a Morgan show horse in the space of a few seconds. I don't remember what happened, but it was definitely my fault.

I wish this would be been captured on film. I was having a lesson the other day and my friend was to have one right after me. When she took her horse out of her stall and over to the grooming area (these are actually outdoor covered corrals easily seen from the arena) my horse stopped dead. That is his girlfriend and neighbor horse. He can be taken away and I can do anything with him, but usually, my friend and I do not ride at the same time so his girlfriend leaving her rooms is just... well heavens. So, I urged him forward (and imagine him in deep concentration as he watches her go) and he gives me this little rear and then a buck and kick out. Looked like a little Capriole. It was so unexpected and out of character that both my trainer and I cracked up laughing. He immediately snapped out of it and went on with work, though, he did keep an ear out for her for the next 10 minutes. LOL

                  oh bloopers are the best.
I just looked at all 4 pages worth. lol.

I made a blooper reel that I'm going to link to my website gallery.

Everyone should hold on to their bloopers. They keep a rider honest.

Don't have any blooper show pics of the mare...however, she is a bit of a pig at the shows regarding her hay consumption...

That was after she picked up the hay bag, looked at me, and tossed it aside.

Did find this lovely picture of my old guy...just look at that expression ...If I recall correctly, I believe he had a little fun on our next canter up the hill. At this point he was about semi-retired and needed to get some kicks, I think. This picture just embodies "coiled spring" to me...

Here is a picture at one of our first schooling shows.... He wasn't sure he wanted to canter at C so I tapped him with the whip... He didn't approve! My high school students love this picture... "He only has 3 legs!"

When I was younger I was riding a first level test on my half Arab. At that time it asked for a lengthen in canter from F to M. At F, we go for it... big! We had a beautiful lengthen down the long side, over the rail and off into the field. I was so embarrassed.

At the Arab nationals, I'd made the cut offs for top ten. We were then supposed to ride one last test to determine placings in the top ten (this was first level). There were 2 judges, one at C and one at E or B that were surrounded by huge scary flowers!! Vic and I are cantering and I'm fighting with him to canter past the flowers when he throws out both back legs at the flowers and judges. Needless to say we didn't score so well, but we did get 7th overall.

I took my 4 year old who was 16.2 at the time to a big show. I'm 4'11 (he wasn't supposed to get so big). He was always Mr. happy go lucky, never blinked an eye at anything, kind of guy. We get in the warm up and spent 10 minutes without touching the ground. The best/worst part was accidentally running up the butt of an upper level rider trying to warm her horse up. The look of death she gave me still gives me nightmares. On the plus side, we won the class. Guess he just had to get it out of his system. Haha

At my last dress show, ii was riding a trainin level test with a reader. Well, the part where you walk to x and the back to the same side of the arena, I just plowed right across the diagnal. The judge rings her bell and exains we went off course, I didn't know where I was supposed to be, so the judge is trying to tell me. At this point the judge has me facing the wrong direction and at the wrong letter to restart the movement, my trainer was trying to explain to the judge she had me going backwards, and I'm totally baffled trying to figure out where I'm supposed to go. We finally get it straightened out and I'm trotting my half circle when I swear I heard someone yell at me, so I yell out "What?". Doh. Im pretty sure the judge heard me. Haha.

We all had a good laugh afterward.

Our first time out at PSG in the side saddle. Test was going swimmingly until our second 1/2 pirouette, at which point dear Will had a bit of a 'moment' and decided to give me a big middle finger. The tempi changes are our hardest movement, so obviously those were next. Observe:
                                http://gaylaanderson.zenfolio.com/p3...6f2a#h10936f2a
Willy has a very high opinion of himself and when changes should (or should not) occur. But apparently the first 2/3rds of the test were good enough to pull a 65%. I thank you, generous judge.

I had a little mare that stopped at X (trot across the diagonal), stretched out and did a full blown dog shake with grunt to boot.

                                  awesome.

Reading some of these reminds me of my less stellar tests....

I was riding third level test 4 (if I recall correctly). With a reader. Who is on this board (you know who you are!).

Anyway, the rider in the next arena finished her test just as I started my walk work. On her way out of the arena, she came off her horse (don't worry, she was fine!). I saw it and half expected my judge to ring the bell until the loose horse was caught and the rider was helped out. Evidently my reader thought so too, as she just stared at the commotion in the next ring as I meandered around, trying to remember the rest of my test, since my reader seemed to have checked out....

My other epic fail test was all me.
It was third level (again... I'm starting to think that's not my level). The first move is turning *right* after coming down the centerline. I didnt have a reader, and it was my fourth test of the day... I turned left. I realized my mistake half way through the medium, but since I didnt hear a bell or whistle, I just soldiered on, finished nearly all of the trot work. When I did my halt, rein back, the judge at C must have noticed something was up. Bell was rang.

She had me do the second series of trot work... to the left. I finished my test and could only shake my head. Evidently the judge at E had a similar thought, because there were more questionmarks on that test sheet than I ever want to see again.

Long ago (and sadly no pics) I was taking my irish tb mare to her first show in a long time and not all that long after weaning her foal.

Our trot work was looking lovely, but for some reason canter was suuuper exciting. We were supposed to 20 circle at E in canter. What I got was Canter buck buck buck buck, bring her back to trot for a stride. Regroup ANNND Canter buck buck buck.. repeat all the way around the 20 m circle and down the long side till we went back to nice elastic happy trotting.

Repeat for the next canter circle.

                                        Judges comment "well stuck"
