Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • and crying my eyes out. This liver just needs a kickstart, it's just getting warmed up and when it's all revved and ready to go, watch out world! Aiden is a HAWK and Hawks are at the top of the food chain. Like a Hawk, he is strong and beautiful and with such lust for life. A life that he has tightly gripped in his magnificent shiny talons, it's not going anywhere. He is fighting and he will win, end of discussion!

    Sarah - those pictures, had me blubbering all over again. Gosh, how can we ever thank you for taking the time to update all of us and yes you are very beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. What a smile of pure joy while you held Aiden - one can feel the happiness and love jump right out of that picture. It was very infectious;

and Lisa and Joey - your only job is to be right next to that little fighter of yours, to stroke him and love him and sing to him - trust me God will take care of the rest. Lisa for you to post an update blew me away, I feel like we are ALL really family in a weird sort of way. Thanks for knowing we really care and love you and Joey and of course Aiden (who will have a slew of visitors from this BB for the next 2 years after this ha ha!)

The power of prayer is incredible, I've seen it work many times. God is right there, you just need to talk to Him and when He answers you need to listen real hard because He whispers.

Aiden has been in my thoughts all day. I was decorating the tree with my daughter and I just started to cry and cry and cry - uncontrollably and I AM NOT A CRIER! I've been accused of always masking my emotions and here I was blubbering on and on. I have been so frustrated like I want to DO something to help but there is nothing I can do. I only felt this way one other time and that was on 9/11.

I love you guys and Aiden I am sending you a trillion butterfly kisses and I have a special request in to Jesus for you - I truly have no doubt that you will pull through this with flying colors. These posts of support are so beautiful and I know that one day Aiden will read them all over and over again.

Love you very much Aiden, rest tonight and let that liver do it's thing. And thank you God for granting all of us our Christmas wish - still praying until he's home safe and sound and then still praying some more. Can't wait for new pics of little Aiden all pink and healthy.

    • Just checking in. Jangled curb chains all day for Aiden. The labs are headed in the right direction. With all of this positive energy, they have to continue downward!

      • Awwww.. the little baby boy is a big tiger inside.

You and your family have all the strength in the world.

I asked my grammy to go and whisper in little baby Aiden's ear and tell him what a lovely boy he is and how much everyone loves him.

Best of luck baby Aiden. We're rooting for you and love you very much.

        • Just back from a family Christmas gathering. I had to leave at noon to get there and was away from the computer all day. As soon as I got home I checked for an update -- and pretty soon my husband and mother-in-law (who is here from St. Pete for the holidays, Lisa!) were looking over my shoulder to see what was going on. Now these are two wonderful people who are not at all savvy about BBs -- but they've been drawn into this, too!

What an outpouring of love and concern. This IS what Christmas is all about. Sometimes it gets lost in all the rushing around and shopping, but I really feel it here. Thank you all for this gift of fellowship that we've given one another.

I've never been very good at praying (as others have indicated as well). Maybe it's because I'm an
Episcopalian and we have such beautiful prayers already written out for us in the Book of Common Prayer that it's hard to be spontaneous. Well, I can thank you, Aiden, for helping me be more comfortable in my conversations with God.

May He watch over you tonight as you sleep and give you the strength to heal and the knowledge that you are so loved, little one. Sweet dreams!

          • For anyone out there feeling frustrated that they can't do anything "concrete" to help, I have a suggestion. First, make sure you are an organ donor (this is not as simple as it might seem in some states. Go to the local ER and ask them what you need to do. And then do it!). If you've already done that, consider donating blood. These simple acts save lives every day -- and yet only a tiny fraction of people choose to do them.

With everyone on the board sending their best wishes and strongest prayers for Aiden, it sure won't hurt to build up a little "good will" with the powers that be!

My prayers are with the Hawks, and with the family who made the decision to save Aiden when they lost their little one. With strong, brave parents like that it is sure to be a perfect liver!!

            • does Aiden need any blood? I have about 30 pints on credit with the Red Cross, I'd be happy to have that applied to Aiden. Not much but it is something.
See those flying monkeys? They work for me.

              • Kryswyn, what a fabulous idea. My Mom, who has been gone for almost 8 years now, will certainly lend her lovely spirit to baby Aiden. She was not only kind and loving -but one h*ll of a fighter, too. She's a good one to have on his side!

With many jingles of love and support from all of us!!

                kick on!

I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their intellects. A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies.

                • The last what I read yesterday night were the news of the not too good blood work.

But now: The Liver starts to work ! Keep on going liver and Aiden !

Thinking about you and wishing the very very best !

                  • Been away all day and missed all of this. I'm glad the new liver is starting to work!! I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts tonight!

Hang in there, you can do it Aiden!!!!!

                    • And had to check on this site (of course after giving my parents a big hug hello).

All that time on planes allowed plenty of jingles from me (but I think the noise annoyed the people trying to sleep )

Keep fighting little man. Ammonia out, fully functioning liver in

                      • Woke up thinking of Aiden and logged in to see if there were any further updates. This COTH group is amazing.
I'm going to go pray. Love to all.

                        • Sarah, my daughter and I are watching this journey unfold with an awe of the human spirit. I can't help but believe that it is the spirit of our horse family that also spurns our faith on...and this magical time of dreams and wishes coming true. Altho not a computer whiz, I have made a point to check in every chance I get...and selfishly, I have to own that this fight for Aiden and his family is allowing me to catch the spirit and true meaning of Christmas...and I am soooo grateful. God, and many angels are watching over the Hawk family, and we BBers' are collectively sending so much positive energy. I know things will be looking up very soon! Last year, I had my own battles with some serious health issues and the power of prayer from the community and the positive thoughts that we send your way, Aiden, Lisa, and Joey...they WILL get you thru. I know you are tired, lean on us! And keep on keepin' on! You are amazing! Jingling, Jangling, and praying!

This Christmas story of Aiden and his family, his donor family, and his extended COTH family has certainly taken our breath away on many occasions.
What an inspiration you all have been for all of us.
